Busted cambelt!

Recommended Posts

:(

My cambelt went at 70mph on Saturday. In the event of the engine being goosed (I may be lucky however), has anybody got a second hand 1.8 16V engine going on offer just in case??

yes, but I'm up in Cheshire... :|

At 70mph I'd bet you'll have bent at least 2 valves on a valver... :(

I'll sell you a couple of valves. I bought a full set off ebay to replace a few on a head that I have in the garage. If you want some let me know how many and inlet or exhaust.

You'd need the engine, charger, pipework, intercooler, radiator (and pipes) engine wiring loom, ECU (+wiring loom) and exhaust downpipe (and probably some more bits too)

Cheesy is just in the middle of doing just this, probably worth having a word with him about it...

DON'T forget to upgrade your brakes too though!

how much does a new set of valves cost?

Exhaust valves = £14.30 each (non-genuine from Euro)

Total cost = £161.60 for all 16 :?

G man, I have some secondhand ones if you need them. CHEAP. You need to lap them in anyway so there is no real benefit in getting new ones. IMHO

What engine has your car got?

The belt went on my 16v (6 weeks after I bought it...). Even though the engine was at low revs and I got the clutch in very quickly it still needed new valves.

Do a compression check...
