W3RKD 0 Posted February 24, 2005 plastic outlets on head ?
vr6storm 0 Posted February 24, 2005 where did you get your radiator from?........or was it a re-core?.........mate had a VR6 with a re-cored radiator and it would empty the coolant pretty quickly too..........no visible drips from it but when it was running it would spray a fine jet from the front of it...........a radiator from Euro-car-parts sorted it in the end for £30 more than the re-core too
g-dub 0 Posted February 24, 2005 i'll check the rad as it was a 2nd hand rallye one that came with the i/c, will also check the plastic bit again but seen no residue on it
Supercharged 2 Posted February 25, 2005 Check your waterpump...
kongo127 0 Posted February 25, 2005 Also that flange on the engine block that goes up to the heater inside the car.
Henny 0 Posted February 25, 2005 if you are SURE that there's no snail-trails around any of the plastic flanges and that there's no water being dripped from the pump or radiator, then the ONLY other place it can be going is out of your exhaust via a dodgy head gasket.... :| Does the engine pressurise the water pipes so they are rock hard very soon after starting the engine? If so, that's another sign that you've got a weeping head gasket... :?
g-dub 0 Posted February 26, 2005 ah ha, yes the pipes do go really hard quick, and there is a little water spitting out of the back, (nothing like a rover though), lucky i have a new gasket set from VW awaiting fitment this week, fingers crossed
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted February 26, 2005 Hello mate, try to get hold of a cooling system pressure tester, rig it up and it should point you in the right direction. You could also attach some Clingfilm around the expansion bottle to see if the headgasket leaks.
g-dub 0 Posted February 26, 2005 hows that?? sorry don't get it
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted February 26, 2005 Sorry, Ignore the bit about clingfilm, I was thinking about a different problem. Also check the internal heating rad/connections.Might be a small hair line crack on head that won't show up easily. If you can get hold of a pressure pump, install it,pump it up to recomended pressure and wait a couple of mins.,then check all the above and remove sparkplugs(hot engine), you'll probably find the leak.Be carefull not to cross thread plugs on hot cyl head, hope it helps,Cheers,Andrew. g-dub 0 Posted February 27, 2005 problem solved, my head gasket has now given up the ghost, theres a small white layer on the oil cap (no mayo YET), nothing in the header tank,is the gasket just started going or has it gone full stop and can't use the car or can i drive the car but watch the water level?? (just for a few days till i sort a ride)
stevemac 0 Posted February 27, 2005 With regard to your water leak - I suspect the head gasket had already gone. Should be okay to drive it, but not too far - it is progressively getting worse.
