tonertron 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Hi I was wondering the other day whether the 1.8 engines in the g60 and 16v are the same.........and if it was possible to take the supercharger out of a g60 and stick into a 16v????? Is this a viable proposition.....or just crazy talk? My 16v only has 90k on the clock.......so I'd like to keep it, but would like the idea of beefing it up a little. h100vw 0 Posted April 13, 2005 You are talking biggish money for that conversion. Plenty of threads on the subject and you could check bahn brenner in the states for more details. The compression is too high, there are plenty of brackets to get hold of and of course the blower itself. Easier to start with a G60 and go 16V Gavin
biggerbigneil 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Talk to John at JMR in West Sussex - On the way to Worthing. He is 16vG60 on the forum. Lots of people have done this mod with some people pushing over 300+ HP. Will cost some to get it right though
Big-ted 0 Posted April 13, 2005 At the risk of disclosing my ignorance, why bother? The general consensus on here seems to be that the 1.8T swap is easier, and presumably, with it being 20V and generally a more modern engine, it has the potential for better results? Edit: Although I am aware of the whole supercharger/turbo debate, I find it hard to believe that it comes down to this?
Henny 0 Posted April 13, 2005 if all you're after is big power numbers for as little effort as possible, then yeah, the 1.8T swap is probably the way to go... If you're after something a little different with some individuality and plenty of power, then doing something interesting to a G60, be it 8V, 16V, 20V or X-Flow, is the way to go.... It may not be cheaper, but it'll be yours and pretty much as unique as you want it to be... 8)
VEEDUBBED 0 Posted April 13, 2005 And another thing to consider if your doing the ALL the work yourself, you need PLENTY of spare time, bits, small steel bushes, different belts, loads of different pulleys, washers, bolts, tensioners, were are you gonna put the alternator?,i put it under the charger,BBM and others put it at the back of the engine which, IMHO is a stupid place to put such a heat sensative component...Don't even think about doing this kind of modifiction over the weekend by the roadside.
