Driving through speed bumps

Recommended Posts

Just a question about what effects my car could have if driven at 20 mph by mistake on a speed bump.

The car is lowered with coilovers to 60mm with 17in wheels.

Cheers in advance.

I know my car's mid-box heatshield hit the speed bump and mines is lowered by 40mm, you might also hit the tank, but I'm not too sure, just thinking out in the open here.

Might have smacked the sump when the suspension compressed initially or middle box. Bottom line dont do it!!!! it can be bloody expensive

My car is lowered 50mm at the back and 35mm at the front (was 50mm until last week)

Had no problems yet with speedbumps, but I go over them dead slow

Well I tried to fly over the hedge, but I wasn't going fast enough and the ditch got in the way...

My car's very low - as you can see in my sig pic.

I took a speed bump at 45mph while in France a few weeks ago (it stepped out in front of me  ) - all 4 wheels left the road & my suspension's still okay. Didn't hit the sump either ..

craigowl, I do that too, but I have no idea why...

I think it must be because we have exceptional empathy with things mechanical, Henny.

I probably started dipping the clutch before speed bumps appeared when crossing cattle grids which, as you know, can really rattle your teeth in your skull. I just seemed to feel that the engine is best disengaged from those rapidly joggling wheels and suspension during those rough moments.

I did go through the speedbump.

I was kinda scared about it as it was in the night. It came hard, but the bump stops in the suspension prevented the sump from hitting the ground, i think. Hopefully and fingers crossed...
