Lost 20 BHP!

I've just had the car on the rolling road and it's showing that it's running at 115bhp at 6K revs.

 

Now i assume thats not normal as the bhp should be at around 136?

 

Can anyone confirmt that this is correct.

 

If so, what could be causing the power loss?

The BHP was at the wheels.

 

I don't know much about this so any help or explanation would be appreciated.

 

It was serviced with new sparks etc just before the rolling road.

ah, if thats at the wheels it probably about right, you loose a few BHP as the power gets transmitted through the gearbox etc down to the wheels, i dont think 20bhp is too bad for transmission losses is it?

still seems low power, get it tuned thats 1.8 power 115 at the wheels,, with a 2 ltr you should be getting more

IIRC mine was about 120bhp at the wheels which was quoted as 162bhp at the flywheel. So yours sounds fine to me.

the 16v kr 1800 in the mk2's is quoted at 139bhp,and its the exact same setup in the rado aint it?

i thought the 2.0 16v 9a gave less bhp because of the inlet cam,and cat.

 

but like you say,gives more torque.

From what I have read, the milder inlet cam moves the power down the rev range a bit and gives cleaner emmisions, and the cat is supposed to reduce power and smell nasty. The extra capacity brings the power back to KR standards.

The golfs had mostly 50mm inlets on the KR and different exhaust system components, may well be that the late golf 16v's with 42mm inlets only made 136bhp, but more likely they all vary so much from car to car it's irrelevant.

Not sure how they arrive at power figures but I think it's a test of a sample of units, so they may have repeated the tests when the C and passat came out and hit a slightly different figure.

KR's all tend to make better than 140bhp if in good condition though, regardless of car.
