veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Well I finally scraped some money together and took the car to a reliable garage. Blokey said the timing belt had gone a few notches so he'll adjust that and see if that works. If it doesn't then it'll be one of the valves. Just awaiting his phone call now........... Wish me luck! veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Well, just had the phone call and it's not good atall. It's not the timing belt and they've gone through all the basics... They gotta take the head off to know what to do next, and the suspect either a bent valve or a melted piston :( I'm skint as it is too but I can luckily pay in installments  Will dance for 50p
g60greeny 0 Posted January 25, 2006 good luck in gettin it sorted mate
W3RKD 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Mate... tell them before they pull the head off and charge you £££'s to do a leakdown test to identify problems.
sciroccotune 0 Posted January 25, 2006 yep agreed with g man. a compression test will tell you if something is amiss before all the cost of head off.
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 They did a compression test and not good results came back.
flusted 0 Posted January 25, 2006 hope you get it sorted! ive got a good spare head you can have cheap if you get stuck
Trig 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Oh dear, still if you can get it sorted it'll be worth it. You can't put a price on a well running Corrado..! ;)
Rossco 0 Posted January 25, 2006 this is very true, when they're good, they're good, but when they suck by god do they suck
Valerian 0 Posted January 25, 2006 is/was your enigine rattling at all ?
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 flusted, thanks. Valerian, No. I've just been chatting to a mate and he says I might aswell buy a new engine. I'm thinking of either VR6 or TDi as I can get the engine put in for an absolutely VERY cheap price.
Trig 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Insurance on a VR6 wont be very cheap though! TDI might be a good idea...
Stan 24v 0 Posted January 25, 2006 I've just been chatting to a mate and he says I might aswell buy a new engine. VERY cheap price. Know how that feels, not bloody nice :( Good luck dude.
sciroccotune 0 Posted January 25, 2006 if its just bent valves i would not get a new motor. valves wont cost much to replace, well far less than new motor being droped in.
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 sciroccotune, true. But the thing is if it's not valves though and it turns out to be something else then I would have just wasted a heck of a lot of money for nothing. ( Which could of gone towards a new engine, and I don't want to take that risk ) Even worse if the engines just knacked. triggermyson, I may be able to insure a vr as it's only 2 groups up, but I'll be on the look out for a 150bhp TDi 6spd Golf engine more.. W3RKD 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Thats why you get a leakdown test done first... /\/\/\/\
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Ok, I'll see what they say when I ring them up tmoz morning. Cheers g-man,
Stan 24v 0 Posted January 25, 2006 The insurance will be more than 2 groups if you drop a VR lump in mate, as it'll be classed as modified.
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Oh right cheers for that info, didn't know that! Looks like TDi for me then, what group are they?
sciroccotune 0 Posted January 25, 2006 best ring round for some quotes before making any decisions. Some places will treat it as the group the engine came from others will ask for mucho denara
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Yea good idea cheers :) Don't think a TDi will be any more than 15 anyway
bcstudent 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Possibly not but it'll still be classed as modified, which means many companies won't quote. Get quotes before you proceed!
Trig 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Ask Supercharged what his insurance is like, his is TDI.
bcstudent 0 Posted January 25, 2006 Now that's using your head. He's an old man compared to 16v though!
