G60Dan 0 Posted September 29, 2003 What engine is going in it? Cosworth?? :D She looks sweet! :thumbleft:
spoier 0 Posted September 29, 2003 Yeah its a Sierra.... Ford sold it as the "Merkur XR4Ti" over here in North America, and put in a pretty healthy 2.3L turbo engine. Not putting in a Cossie yet, maybe next year. The stock powerplant can make 250hp with very little work, and that should keep me entertained for quite a while especially with just RWD. Eventually I will get a Cossie AWD setup though, or a reasonable facimilie (the new "global I4" duratech block is actually a Cosworth design and can be had for cheap and the tuning potential may be incredibly good for the price - not sure if I can mate it to the MT75 trans though). Will be hooking up a monster intercooler, fuel cell, huge brakes, remote oil filter, etc etc Engine swaps will be dead easy, we fabricated some custom engine mounts off the chassis rails instead of resting on the crossmember (easier for rally service too) http://www.rallyrace.net/view/?2003-09- ... ne_bay.jpg Oh yeah and that's a Group A Sapphire Cosworth next to it :D Almost bought that. And a Saab 96 rally car behind that http://www.rallyrace.net/view/?2003-09- ... uarter.jpg Skye
G60 0 Posted September 29, 2003 wholly shit skye i have an XR too... but planning on a 5L turbo transplant for some serious 1/4 mile power. you're right the 2.3T is a lot of fun! why did you go through the bother of changing the back windows for the single cossie back window if its going to be a rallye car? ..and how did a sapphire cosworth get into the states... they didnt sell those anywhere in north america... Mike Edwards 0 Posted September 29, 2003 Some one at work is in the process of putting the V8 from a current shape Mustang into a Cosworth. Looking to crack 200mph.

Not putting in a Cossie yet, maybe next year. not with that bodyshell tho...........i was under the impression all the 2.8i XR4's and merkur XR4ti's had the so-called "six-lite" bodyshell or have done some "modifications" to it
G60 0 Posted September 29, 2003 you got it vr6storm. he hacked out the back window bar to turn two small XR panes into one big cossie pane! other than that.. the metalwork of the XR is the same as the cossie. its the bumpers, side trim, grill, and the famous 'whale tail' that distinguish the two models. spoier 0 Posted September 30, 2003 The XR4Ti bodyshell is actually BETTER than the stock Cossie 3dr body shell - it came from the factory with the "stiffening kit" extra chassis reinforcements along the bottom of the shell which had to be fitted separately on the 3dr - unfortunately it also came with that horrible looking fake C-pillar so I had my bodyman chop it out :) Looks so much better. No V8 for me, real race cars have 4 cylinders and go around corners (both left AND right) ;) All the running gear from a MkV Escort Cossie bolts right up, I like that idea a lot. Honestly you can't really use more than 250-300hp on gravel anyway. Skye

Skye i actually prefered the "6-lite" as unlike the states we also had the sierra 1.3 and 1.6 3door hatches so it was real easy to make a cossie fake but a lot harder to make a XR4i fake.........in fact i like the 6-lite that much i actually toyed with the idea of buying one of the very few XR4ti's that were available over here
