Loving the bonnet Sam.

 

Was hoping Josh would forget I had it when i borrowed it but alas.

 

You just can't get bored of lifting it open with a couple of fingers.

 

Ye, its very cool weight wise. But still not sure about having CF on show. I may pass it on as seems a shame to paint over it. The fibre glass versions will be similar weight wise but wont matter if its painted.

Quick question for you. Any idea where the 24v's take their oil temp reading from?

The r32 measures the oil temp through the sump normally (i think), mine isn't hooked up yet but I was going to tap into the oil filter housing for short term, then get round to measuring like OE. why doo you ask?

lol, whole kilo. You make it sound like thats a huge amount. Hiding all that hard work and money is a bit silly really. I'm still toying with the options though anyway

Same reason, mine isn't hooked up at the moment but I was wondering if it takes the reading from the condition sensor in the Sump.

 

Took the car out for a run earlier and realised I need to get the oil temp sorted. I wonder if its can-bus driven......

Have you thought about having it partially painted? I seem to remember a rather special lupo a while back having a bonnet done like this. Could still see the weave through the paint but from a distance it looked body coloured.

 

Just an idea.

Yeah, thought about a thin coat of body colour. Like I said toying with loads of ideas.

 

Spent most of today giving the car a full clean. The winter really took it out on my car so will need to re do most of the stuff I did for the conversion. If I get the house we are looking at to buy Ill be taking the car off the road and use it for weekends and make it a proper project ie awd twin turbo. until then Im not too bothered about the bodywork etc.

 

Fitted a new Varta battery. Cranks over much better now, will keep the old one as a spare.

Hi - you're selling a n/s fog lamp and say that you replaced the lens on it. Where did you get it? I need an o/s lens for a late fog lamp.

So what you're actually saying is that your conversion is still not finished. Tut tut ;) :D

Got it from another fog lamp that had broken plastics but good glass and carefully separated the two.

Re-fitted the original bonnet as I couldnt get used to the Carbon Weave.

 

Been a bit lazy with the car, still need to sort out the wheels and tyres for the MOT and sort a few niggles but been sidetracked trying to find a car for my mom. Been looking to get a lupo and thought I found one today, but after a 90mile journey it turned out to be a shed even after explicitly checking that nothing is wrong with it over a phone call. Why do people lie soo much, its a waste of time for both the buyer and sellers!

Ah, that's annoying :( I love lupos. I think I would have got one if I hadn't found a mk2. If you're not worried about boot space I reckon they're great little cars!

Wired in the seats last weekend so now have height and lean adjustments :cheers:

 

Also made another start on the wheels, have split the remaining 3 rims ready for blasting and painting. thinking of silver centres, gold bolts and polished rims (on the RH ZW1's if youve forgot). I was going to go 8" on front and 8.5" rear but Ill keep things simple at 8" all round for now.

 

Car is still playing up when filling up a full tank of fuel so will get the fuel lift pump checked/replaced.

 

In addition, managed to get my mom a car, off to collect this next week..

Ordered the new split rim bolts, hoping to get the centres refurbed next week. Then some slick new rubber ready for the MOT!

ordered some new rubber for the wheels, going for Falken ZE-912's as they seem pretty good and are reasonably priced.

 

Wheel bolts arrived the other day and look pretty sweet. Did try and remove all the paint off the wheels but taking too long an need them sorted quickly for the MOT. Funny really as they've been in the garage for a year without being touched and now Im rushing around trying to get them refurbed.

 

Also fitted a bonnet bra and modified the bonnet to take the mk4 washer jets properly (stuck them on before), now they fit pretty much OE.

ZE-912's are ****e, when i bought my current vr6 it had those tyres on and it wheel span in 2nd, cooper zeon cs-6 is the way forward.

Got them on my current wheels, they aren't great but fine for my needs. Will look into those tyres you mentioned anyway.

Had a quick look at the coopers and they work out to be £100 more expensive for the set. Unfortunately I cant afford anything lavish due to have an offer on a house approved :-) so need to look after the pennies. When it comes to renewing them Ill def' consider the coopers.

Right, these split rims I have are taking forever to strip! So much so I dont think I'll have them ready for the MOT, so asked some mates at work if anyone could lend me some wheels/tyres for the test. Closest I could get were some 18x8.5"!! They fit but lots of tyre body contact while driving but not on full lock which I was surprised by. I could raise the car but I think the struts are seized and would need to re-track the geometry.

 

Does anyone have either 16" or 17" wheels or tyres with 5x100 pcd that I can borrow for a few days? I'm getting desperate!

MOT fail...but it wasnt for much. Rear drivers handbrake efficiency was low and two tyres needing changing. Not a bad result really considering I thought ll four tyres had past their best.

 

Bought some genuine VW rear disks and brembo pads, adjusted the linkage and hope that will pass the MOT. I did notice that the one calliper was tight so could do with replacing, may go mk4 spec soon.

 

May end up going to DC11 tomorrow with a mate, not sure if it's worth taking the rado as its filthy! Am trying to make it to GTi inters so I can finally see what the 3.2 engine can give on the drag strip.

DC11 was quite good, not many trade stands unfortunately.

 

So after fitting the new brakes, bearings and pads I still had **** poor rear handbrakes so decided to fit some mk4 rear callipers. Quite an easy swap but pain in the butt to bleed. Hanbrake is now fantastic!

 

Re-booked MOT on Tuesday, so hopefully it goes through ok this time.

The mk4's are great for the handbrake, I discovered my brake regulator was knackered once we changed the rear brakes. My bleeding took ages, don't know if it had anything to do with the regulator.

what a nightmare! took the car into a decent vw specialist (sub11) to get the brakes bled and have the two remaining rubber hoses changes to braided version.

 

James at sub11 had issues with the cheap copper lines that were fitted by someone else and ended up needing to replace three of them, then the goodrich hose i had didnt fit (turns out mk3 hoses only fit vr's and not 16v's!) so he made some bespoke ones :-), that sorted he started on the bleeding....

 

....whole day later and still air in the lines. I even gave a hand but still not brilliant :-(

 

Hopefully enough to get through the MOT.

 

Interestingly, after the dead spot, the brakes are imense. massive stopping power. shows that the old fluid was needing chucking!

 

no idea why we can't get the air out, tried all sort, manual bleeds, pressurised etc etc. will drive around for a while and see if it clears through otherwise...no idea.

have you bled the system at the ABS and servo/mc too, thats often overlooked and is key to getting good pedal feel
