Fuel tank straps

Not tried myself, but I'd imagine they'll be rusty and covered in gunk.

 

I'd make sure you've got a can of WD40, or even better, PlusGas (same thing but way better) to hand.

 

Douse the bolts in that, leave for 20mins, have a go then.

Should come off ok - replace with stainless...

 

If you do one at a time you won't need to hold the tank up, early straps are same as a mk3 as you probably know - late ones now obselete..

I'm sure daves16v would be able to make some Stainless ones for you - they're not very complicated.

i changed these over a year ago. piece of piss. like supercharged said - do one strap at a time.

Yeah did mine yesterday, done in under 10 mins and thats with cleaning all the tank. although it does help to have a garage pit. cost £38.54 with discount, well worth doing.

So do you think they can be made from Stainless? If so I'll have your old ones :D

Ah sorry I meant stainless bolts but yeah i reckon stainless straps are an option and you can still paint them black I assume? - the late ones are obselete too!
