Critical_Mass 10 Posted August 13, 2008 Do you mean a G60 charger or a different one to replace the original? You can get a G60 for £500 maybe less if you look around. Seen them on ebay for £300-400. Whats up with the one you have, is it not servicable?
dannyG60 0 Posted August 13, 2008 No i am still looking for my first corrado but the volkswagon man said to steer clear of G60 as all they do is break down, and that when he said a new charger is £1400, i can live with it costing £500 but not £1400. then went on to say vr6 is to thristy, and to go with to 2.0 if i really wantied one that badly. bcstudent 0 Posted August 13, 2008 It would seem that the VR6 is actually one of the more frugal engines in the line-up.

As with all things if they aren't maintained regularly then they can fail. Basically you are looking at rebuilding the charger every 20k-40k miles (depending on the size of the pulley it has and how heavy your right foot is). Rebuilds cost about about £350-400 AFAIR. If they are maintained there is no reason why they should be any less reliable than any other car. It helps if you live within reasonable driving distance of G-Werks as well, as they can do a drive in drive out rebuild service for an extra £50. G60 should get you 30-35 mpg on the motorway in a reasonable state of tune. It is also relatively easy to get up to around 200bhp (at the flywheel) with a chip and a smaller pulley. Walesy 0 Posted August 13, 2008 They may have been £1400 from VW back in the day? - seems bloody expensive. You can pick them up with a fresh service for around £600-£800, but as long as you make sure that whatever G60 you buy has either had a charger service at a reputable place or that you factor £400 on top of the purchase price so that you can have the charger serviced straight away when you buy the car there should be no cause for concern. There's a lot of scaremongering around regarding G60's, usually from people that haven't actually owned one.

Supercharged 2 Posted August 13, 2008 New chargers are still available from VW for £2200 but they have not been manufactured since 1995 so would still need a rebuild!

Andy665 0 Posted August 14, 2008 Volkswagon man said to steer clear of G60 as all they do is break down Sounds like the kind of bloke who would recommend buying a Ford because "anyone can fix them" - amazing how many badly informed people there are out there
