Jon_vr6 1 Posted March 18, 2009 Had an annoying rattle every now and then coming home from work today had a look above the exhaust and noticed that the spring clippy things that hold the heat shield near the tailpipe have gone through the heat shield resulting in it rattling on the exhaust. All i want to know is where to get and what the clippy things are called?? Are they readily available?? Cheers Jon
boost monkey 0 Posted March 18, 2009 If you mean the little circular spigot ring things, then they are: N 90335004 clamping washer 5X30 / Hope this helps, Jon.

Mawrick 0 Posted March 18, 2009 Are these available in another metal type? (isn't the "going thru" caused by the 2 metals reacting with eachother?).......
KipVR 1 Posted March 18, 2009 To be honest it's probably cheaper to buy some from RS, or a selection box maybe? Corrosion only if they are ally and stainless together really, what is the shield made from? http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... 4294955445
Mawrick 0 Posted March 18, 2009 IIRC the shield is aluminium, and those washers are steel.......and "eating" through the shield...;)
Jon_vr6 1 Posted March 18, 2009 What were vw thinking when they made them out of 2 different metals tut tut!! Getting mine from the stealers!!
fla 9 Posted March 18, 2009 My heat shiled rattles a bit in the mornings ie when the car is cold and only on revving it slightly. Is there any kind of packing or wadding that can be used to stop this, in addition to the clips? Of course it needs to be heat resistant.
Mawrick 0 Posted March 18, 2009 I think it's quite a common problem, not only VW.......:(, but yea, what where they thinking..........lol

KipVR 1 Posted March 19, 2009 Why not replace the sheild? It should last another decade.....
vwdeviant 0 Posted March 20, 2009 My Rear most one had gone so I tied it through the "Body mount" (bit they use at the factory to move cars about) next to it... been over a year like that and all's good! Now I've said that... watch it break :norty:
