Where did you get the sump guard from if you don't mind me asking? Looks very mason tech esq. And how much was the Reniz headgasket kit? Stu I got the sump guard off the guy I had the car off. VR6Pete 0 Posted November 14, 2010 Ok, as promised! We have had a busy weekend with the corrado build... Early start this morning, ready for action! It didnt take long before Tony set to work :) Say cheese... Tony's standard pose Engine has seen better days to be honest! sheeeet! it's gone!?! ahhh, there it is :) didnt take more than an hour to whip out! the start of stripping the engine.. head gasket defiantly has failed... im pretty sure my finger should not be there... surprisingly, the bores are in pretty good condition, honing marks still visible.... Thanks to Eastwood John popping over to lend a hand :) Head being cleanedup.. head is now looking better... same treatment for the block. meanwhile... the head was being stripped to replace valve stem seals, and new hydraulic lifters.. Ceramic coated raceland manifold fitted. new timing chains fitted... I sorted out the intake stuff ready for fitting... New thermostat housing / crack pipe / thermo stat fitted... (new waterpump fitted earlier in the day) ARP headbolts being torqued up, unfortunately one of the nuts fell down into the timing chains, so had to remove gearbox again to retrieve it which put us back a little... Well, we called it a day then... beer to drink, Chinese to eat, and a shit boxing match to watch :) We had some issues with some bolts snapping, and the biggest pain the arse was the rear engine mount bolt snapped, so cant get the engine in this weekend, until a new one has arrived... or my mate's neighbour has success removing the snapped bolt from the current mount :( So, we got the Coilovers on. I needed to shave some off the callipers to squeeze the Brock B2's on the front... this turned out to more than I thought!! Sooooo, i'm going to try the wheels on a Golf tomorrow to see if the 288mm brake setup will be a better option... John and Jason came over today to lend a land with getting the dash out to replace the heater matrix.... Thanks very much guys :) Rear coilovers on... and rear brock B2's fitted.... It wouldnt be the same if there wasnt a cheesy photo of Tony in the set, so here it is! ahhhh, here's the offending article! goosed! and here is the car stripped out... didnt take long at all at this point :) new matrix ready to rock and roll now on the ground... note that no engine is fitted, and ride height is yet to be adjusted..... 58mm, front 57mm is what I am going for :) 90% of the dash is now back in, just a few bits n bobs to tidy up That's it for this weekend.... will next play in 2 weeks time when the engine can go back in... Fantastic work for a single weekend mate, ****ing LOVE those wheels...where did you get them from? I'd be interested to see if you get the 288's under them! VR6Pete 0 Posted November 15, 2010 Hi mate, Yes its been a long time in the coming :) Had a few guys over from VR6OC come help. loads of progress made. hopefully should be an easy weekend when it goes back together with all the big jobs done! If you look on page 1 of the thread, you will see the car the wheels were on before... going to try my wheels on a late golf VR6 to see if they fit ok :) If not. I'm gonna have to shave more off the carrier :( I have been collecting parts over the last year, just picked up my new engine mount bolt today, and hoping my mate has been able to extract the snapped bolt from my rear engine mount, got to buy some new track rod ends, and steering rack boots as they are split, and dont want them picked up on MOT when I get around to doing it.... bought a tub of hammerite and some wire brushes today so bring up the engine nicely :) Fingers crossed, it should be running like new once it's back in... off blackpool next weekend for a stag doo, then 27th / 28th I can crack on with the rest of it with the lads .. bring it on :D Pete Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
VR6Pete 0 Posted November 29, 2010 Next Update! Well, a cold / snowy weekend didnt put us off! First of all, applied some rust prevention as it was a little rusty! Engine back in with little issue now the rear engine mount was sorted. Few more bits connected up! :) Attempt one at fitting intake stuff... really need to get some samco hose to couple it all together and chop some hose off the BMC CDA. Tony filling her up! Also fitted new fuel filter... Shiney stuff... Not quite on the ground yet. had some issues with the brake lines that I need to resolve by way of fitting the banjo bolts and new lines as the nut has rounded off one of them (any suggestions?) I will do. only got some cheapish oil, and will change after 500 miles on the road for some nice stuff. Always ran my old VR6's on Syntha silver old oil filter I pulled out was filithy... VR6Pete 0 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) Ok, thought I'd do a bit of an update. i've been busy with work, and ill kids! so only just getting time now! Well we cracked on the other Saturday, myself, tony, John and Jason (thanks guys!) so first, we got the new brake line in, made up from original green steel for that factory look, and went ahead with the goodridge hose fitting :) also got a new rear VW badge :) also fitted new crank pulley... under drive OBX jobby. so put most of the dash back in, and replaced oil cooler seals as they were shot and leaking... replaced bonnet cable.... and did some electrical repairs on the fog light wiring. got the car on all 4's but ran into problems with the front wheels so decided to put the standard alloys on for now! discovered that it was rather low! unfortunately, the rear brake lines had seen better days! so i've got my man to make me up some more new ones in green steel. also had a problem with the demister bowden cable being ragged so need to order a new one! (only £9 + VAT) then I can get the heater controls back in.... also fitted a new heater motor while we were at it! Today, I had a mate around with his orbital polisher thingy! gave it a good wash off, 2 years worth of crud! masked up some bits and bobs; here's some before shots: some after shots: Well thats it for now.... will post more updates when I have them... finishing off with the bodywork tomorrow.... and waiting on other parts before i can continue and get it in for an MOT! Went to fit it today but the grommet things don't seem to hold them in, I presume that they should be flexible to grip them? VR6Pete 0 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) It's been a while since I've put an update on here, been a little busy with work and all that sort of stuff. Sunday, I got the rear brake lines on, bled up the system, and troubleshooted the ABS problems I've been having as the light does'nt come on at all, and I was getting comms issues using VCDS.... I replaced the ABS ECU, obtained a new ABS Lamp, still had the same issues, It seems that the replacement ABS lamp also had a blown bulb, and it would appear VCDS has a software bug, as older version of VAG-COM talk to the ECU just fine! I tested the ABS by attaching a side repeater bulb to the terminals, and it came on and off as expected. Continued to set the coilover ride height, and spray the coilovers with chain wax to protect them, sorted a blow on the exhaust joints but the centre silencer has developed a hole due to rust, so will need to replace them.... Here's a quick photo of trying to get the car up my drive, its quite steep, so had to make sure ride height was set appropriately :) I'm now toying with the idea of selling my Brock B2's and looking out for some compomotive mo's again! I really like those, and would do anything to get my old set back! Last night I soldered in my my ABS bulbs last night, so now have (seemingly) working ABS... that was my biggest issue, preventing me from MOT'ing the car. I was that impressed that it's now working, I was sad enough to take a video :) stuff left to do: Fit side repeater case - Need to order Fit front drivers brake hose clip secure fog light cases to bumper fit new heater bowden cable finish fitting heater controls put remaining dash trims back in tracking / camber etc... MOT Fit OBD2 conversion fit uprated headlight loom fit a new radiator as have a small leak on mine... Fit recon gearbox with g60 final drive. VR6Pete 0 Posted September 24, 2011 Well , I've not updated this in a while, but rest assured I've been working away on lots of things :) I have since sold the Brock B2's and have purchased these babies: Another area of concern was the fuel tank straps rusting away to nothing, so I have had a set fabricated as these have been obsolete for a while now :) As you can see, the quality on these are awesome! I'm currently awaiting the mount back from the fabricators in stainless as these are obsolete from VW, and guess what? mine has rusted away :) these are quite a common thing if you own a corrado! I've started to get some bits vapour blasted, first item was the tensioner pulley as it was looking minging and showing it's age! Lower inlet manifold / rocker cover will also be vapour blasted, along with a few other brackets etc that have since become obsolete. I've also managed to fix the sunroof tilt and slide by replacing the motor and stripping and rebuilding the switch, while I was at it, I replaced the bulbs and reflector's in the interior head lining light for good measure :) I then set to fix the switch on the passenger mirror, ended up being an easy fix in the end, just popped to maplins, found the best fitting switch and soldered it in pace... job done! Those pesky head light switches on the corrado's are always breaking, mine already has a crack forming, luckily there was a group buy on here :) really happy with the quality! I've found my polishing mops again :) hurrah I hear you all cry. so, I thought i'd give the old alternator pulley a bit of a polish up.. didn't look too bad to be fair! So, on to the OBD2 manifold (ready for the OBD2 upgrade!) This is still not quite finished yet, It has been vapour blasted too, as you can probably tell from the first photo! It's just covered in polishing compound and lime in the above photos, I still need to give the manifold bit's a final buff as my mops needed cleaning, hence why you can see faint scratch marks on the last photos!! :( a job for next weekend! I gave the old girl a quick wash off the other day as she was looking dusty! a sure sign I need to get it finished quicker!! Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Picked up 4 rolls of wiring loom tape from Audi too ready for the OBD2 upgrade :) (and some new bolts/inlet manifold gaskets etc. etc..) Cleaned up some of the engine bay a little, stripped some of the old loom tape off ready to re-wrap it! So here is the engine bay as it stands: not bad when you look at the before photo when I bought it! I still have a long list of things to do on it!! End of october will see the OBD2 upgrade and other bits and bobs, I've got a 3.68 final drive refurbed gearbox to go on at the same time... but this is my list of everything that needs doing: OBD2 upgrade Fit lower inlet manifold Fit new rocker cover Aerial seal Fit new alternator pulley Fit stainless steel fuel tank straps Fit heater de-mister Bowden cable Repair heater directional cable Fit drivers side brake line spring between flex and brake line (bleed brakes) Fit new gearbox if arrived Fit front silencer Fit radiator support brackets Fit centre console custom mount Fit headlight loom upgrade Re-fit seat adjuster handle Engine bay degrease / de-gunk As you can see, its just mostly small bits to do, and other jobs as a result of doing the bigger jobs already, i've already started tarting up some of the car... so fingers crossed I can meet my March 2012 dead line to get it finally on the road! Started with a flap sanding wheel (180 grit) and worked my way upto 5,000 grit wet and dry. Then got my mops on with blue, green polishing compound etc... I needed clean my mops and gonna do the last blast with autoglym metal polish when I was testing my process it actually left a better finish than with my blue polishing compound!
