VWVW 1 Posted February 19, 2010 Hi All The horn on my VR is not working. I have tried the following 1. Change the fuse at position 13 2. opened up the steering wheel and checked that the connectors are ok there I need to check the horn itself. Where is the Horn located in the engine bay. Wish I had a hayes manual but dont think they have one for the Corrado thanks in Advance

MikLSP 0 Posted February 19, 2010 Quite possibly just a bad earth. (sorry I don't own a Corrado yet so don't know where the horn is)

Philuk 0 Posted February 19, 2010 mine was an intermittant fault on mine. and all i used to do was take it apart clean it and put it back together, but that didnt always work so i just used to leave it and then it would randomly start working again. i now understand that post was pointless :D
smee 0 Posted February 20, 2010 Wow thanks for the quick replies. Not sure what you mean by the below millerman have you looked at the blade located directly under the wheel if its not touching the cooper ground it wont work !! You mean the wiper contact between the wheel and the steering column? I had the same problem when I got my VR, turned out just to be dirty contacts. The horns on a VR are buried somewhere behind the bumper, in front of the passenger wheel possibly?
mattnorgrove 0 Posted February 20, 2010 The horns are located behind the grill in the centre of the slam panel, pop the grill off you'll see them, get a multimeter on the end of the leads and see if you get voltage when you press the horn. HTH
Guest Posted February 20, 2010 Not sure about the post saying the horn is behind the grill in the middle of the slam panel. On Kips & my VR6 they are in the space infront of the passenger wheel, under the battery tray. You need to remove the flat air deflector thingy that sits between the bumper and wheel arch to get to them. Sorry about the poor quality pic

James. 9 Posted February 20, 2010 Check the relay. That's what stopped mine working.
VWVW 1 Posted February 20, 2010 Woohooo!!! Horn is working again. Had another closer look today. I took the brown cable out completely from within the steering wheel and noticed that the ends were in fact dirty. I used some sand paper and sanded the ends clean again and it came back to life. I feel much better now that I ve got the horn working again so many bad drivers out there its essential :) Need to figure out how to put the fuse cover back neatly!! Its really fidgety...I 'll leave that for another day ! Thanks all for your help and suggestions
fla 9 Posted September 25, 2019 I have this issue - cleaned the contacts behind the wheel. Just swopped the two relays (53) between positions 10 & 11 and checked the fuse (position 13). All seem ok but the relay does not appear to be getting power - it is not clicking. Perhaps the wiring from the steering wheel wiper to the relay? I'm sure its something basic that i'm missing... Hello mate, link here to a thread I posted on back in 2013 which also has a link to all the coloured connection plugs on back of fusebox. Link below: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?80988-Horn-doesn-t-work-apparently-no-wires-from-fuse-box-s Hope this helps Si Edited September 26, 2019 by vw rule

fla 9 Posted September 28, 2019 Well it was simpler than i thought. The ground connector in the base of the steering wheel was loose and a bit corroded. Removed it cleaned with a file, opened the sides to make for a tighter fit and sprayed with wd40. Working horn now! Crappy design tbh as its just an interference fit which gives it its connection to ground

fla 9 Posted December 26, 2022 Well here we go again. Changed the horns because i thought they weren't working. Tested the new horns with 12v directly- work fine. Pressing the horn and the relay clicks nicely, but no sound from the horn. Im assuming that there's no power going to the horn although i cleaned the connectors properly. Whats the wiring route from the relay to the horn and whereabouts is the earth? Can't see what else it could be tbh..

Are you getting power to the wiring going into the plug, if not I would check :- You haven’t plugged the fog light plug into the horn if not chase the wires back to the loom near the battery. The wiring might be damaged near the battery if you can hear clicking

Dox 23 Posted December 26, 2022 Horn button earths onto the column? Touch the wire from the button onto the column?
fla 9 Posted December 26, 2022 3 hours ago, 1xshaunx1 said: Not fog light, it’s the indicator that has the same plug Ah yes, could be! Good call. 29 minutes ago, Dox said: Horn button earths onto the column? Touch the wire from the button onto the column? Relay is clicking so I assume it should be ok? Good suggestion though, I'll check it again. Yesterday it tried to horn slightly as though the horn was seized. The wiring from the connectors - where is this routed? Thanks
Dox 23 Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) Pull the relay, use a 9v PP3 battery on terminals 85 and 86 (you shouldn't need wires as the spacing is similar)? Initiate the click, measure resistance across 30 and 87? fla 9 Posted December 29, 2022 Helps to use a bit of common sense first to establish a baseline! Ignition on, engine off, horn tries to sound but doesnt quite do it. Engine on horn operates perfectly. So all ok, although i thought that it would work with the engine off. It certainly did with the old scorpion alarm, perhaps its the Toad causing this? Battery was fully charged a few days back, and its quite new. 70Ah so enough capacity there. Thanks for the suggestions guys, i can imagine this wont be the end of it! fla 9 Posted December 29, 2022 which connection would you say is the most likely - its a bit of a pain to get to the ones under the car tbh
