Mr oemforyou 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Hey thanks for anyone reading this and willing to help. I've been looking for a corrado for a few weeks now was orginally looking for a vr6 but if I'm honest I think it gonna be to heavy on fuel as I only do around town driving I have owned a g60 before awhile back and know that will be quite thirsty too.I loved the look of corrados and always have but don't really want the running costs if the vr or g60 ,also thinking I woul prefer the high revving fun of a valver I think I would have more fun in this type of setup rather than the smooth pull of a vr. Is there a preferable engine to choose from between the 1.8 8v,1.8 16v,or the 2.0 16 valve and what's the difference in these different engines? Is there a preferable one for tuning and what's the tried and tested tuning route with these? Thinking keeping it na. I have around £2000- £3000 to spend what's the ideal amount to be spending on one of these?I want a clean looked after example. Thankyou for any help cheers chris
VR6 0 Posted February 26, 2010 I wouldn't expect a valver to be massively different in fuel consumption to a VR or G60. Ok there will be a difference but I think if you take all other factors out of it, the VR (or G60) offers a lot more albeit for a slight sacrifice of MPG. Mr oemforyou 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Oh and what mpg can I expect? Are they that close in mpg?!! So what is the vr and g60 compared then?.. Sorry for all the questions.
big ben 10 Posted February 26, 2010 mpg are basically the same VR6 uses less fuel at 80mph than a valver i rekon, around town not much in it... tax is basically the same, insurance groups are 17/18 i think, so basically nothing in it!!
Walesy 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Apart from 50+bhp
big ben 10 Posted February 26, 2010 Apart from 50+bhp       dont forget the noise of a V6 engine, and the small matter of speed
vwdeviant 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Apart from 50+bhp  And at 1240(VR) vs 1097(16v) Kerb weights*... an additional 143 kg... Oh and 16v mileage rocks! Yep that's 40.2 MPG... at an eco-friendly driven 55 on M25! :notworthy: *These are taken from "t'internet sources" (google Corrado 16v Kerb weight)
big ben 10 Posted February 26, 2010 you cant tell me you would rather a 16v to a VR6 though surely?? when i get in my VR6 it feels a different car, everything about it is nicer, steering, throttle, gear box... feels a million times nicer

(But yes, 160-ish hp on tap and low weight, = loads of handling fun, however Recaros do bump Kerb Weight up a bit!)

(But yes, 160-ish hp on tap and low weight, = loads of handling fun, however Recaros do bump Kerb Weight up a bit!) i do like the way my valver handles, but thats only because its on Fk coilovers... the VRT isnt far off though, and the engines been rasied an inch in it    but its got KW coilovers and ARB's so makes up for it
Walesy 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Anyone whos owned and lived with both will say the same, as an overall package valvers just aren't the car that the VR6 is, its as simple as that. The only one advantage they have is a bit less weight over the front end, that's clutching at straws though. G60's/Valvers do feel a bit more nimble for sure, but that's not going to put many people off a VR6 when there's a lot that can be done to sort handling out on these cars  I've had up over 40mph out of my VR6 too, I just didn't take a pic! 136bhp 4 pot vs 190bhp V6 - there's no contest
Mr oemforyou 0 Posted February 26, 2010 hahahahah i see a can of worms opening up here!!... ive gotta say though how possibly can a 2.9 v6 be the same as a 2.o 16v are the 2.0 that bad on fuel? man i feel like my brain is popping ive gone from getting a vr to a g60 to a vr to a 16v and now im just bloody confused!!! so what are the mpg on all the different types of engines? surely there must be some difference?! how lazy is the vr6(i mean this in no nasty way!!) i would prefer something a bit revvy i have a a3 1.8t sport at the mo and i find it hideously boring to drive and handles like a piece of crap(its standard) (i did have a 320bhp subaru before it though).what i dont understand is why people would buy a £2500 2.016v when u can pick up a vr if the vr is such a superior car!or am i missing something? im sorry to keep on just wanna work out which is the best car for my money so i can actually start looking properly without flitting from different spec every two seconds!!..... big ben 10 Posted February 26, 2010 google the mpg figures, you will see there isnt much difference!! they are all fairly thirsty... The VR6 isnt lazy, it just does it easy... you dont have to rev the shit out of it to get somewhere Go drive some corrados and find out for yourself!! drive a VR6, you will love it im sure. Pisses all over a standard 1.8T imo!! over 4,000rpm the VR6 is quality, the sound, the power
Bullfinch 0 Posted February 26, 2010 I've had up over 40mph out of my VR6 too, I just didn't take a pic! In my wild days it was easy to get over 130mpg out of a VR6 as well.
Walesy 0 Posted February 26, 2010 :brickwall: You know what I meant! I'd say the Vr6 is quite lazy tbh, when compared to a chip/pulley'd G60 - they're completely different cars to drive, the G60 feels much more urgent.

Skills 0 Posted February 26, 2010 Was reading this before I went out for a run today and thought i'd see how frugal I could be with the VR6. Pretty impressed with that!

Skills 0 Posted February 27, 2010 My temp guage seems to only work when it wants to. I did cheat and reset the MFA as I hit the M25 but was still impressed!
ozowen 2 Posted February 27, 2010 Buy a VR matey you will not go wrong with it. The noise of the V6 is enough to make you smile every day, the heated leather seats enough to keep your arse and back warm on cold days and some tasty standard alloys. What more do you need. As for fuel consumption, if that is a major factor buy a diesel. All you have to concern yourself with is when the gauge is nearing the red fill it up and drive some more   .
