James. 9 Posted August 19, 2010 As per title. Standard stereo set up. Do I buy an original VW one or do I buy a brand. Need to be able to buy it on or before Saturday. Prices ??? NB: Looked in the search and found only threads for batteries used with big stereo set ups or 16v variant.

GlosterOx 0 Posted August 19, 2010 Or something like this, brand name with good warranty and high CCA: http://www.motionbattery.co.uk/Premium- ... de-Battery Ian.
dr_mat 0 Posted August 19, 2010 If you just want a battery that starts the car, just buy a battery that fits, and has at least 55Ah. Ish. Then keep it charged. If you need a battery that'll run banging choons for three hours in a field, you might need to look a bit harder... :)
Bullfinch 0 Posted February 16, 2011 Anyone changed their battery recently? Is Varta a good brand to go for?
monzablau16v 0 Posted February 16, 2011 Anyone changed their battery recently? Is Varta a good brand to go for? I went for a Varta E38 74Ah It hasnt missed a beat in 4 months (car was stood for a few weeks once and it started on the first key turn without any stuggle). I've always had Bosch in the past and i can hand on my heart say that the Varta is miles better, wont be buying anything else from now on. I got mine from TPS (Trade Parts Specialists) for I think about £60 with trade discount. Beware though, it is a big a$$ battery and just about fits! http://pmd.varta-automotive.com/pmd2/showBatterieDetail.do;jsessionid=20B2821DD2EE6E1DD89325746D535CCA?ArtikelNr=5744020753162
jamiehamy 0 Posted February 16, 2011 I've had plenty of Varta batteries over the years and never had an issue, so that must be a good sign :)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 16, 2011 Dealer Varta for me too, seem to be good batteries. 74AH is the biggest you get in though as previously mentioned!
harin 0 Posted February 16, 2011 I got mine from Halfrauds too (had no other choice on a SUnday afternoon). Although expensive (£100 and heavy duty) its a very good battery!
James. 9 Posted February 16, 2011 Just for purposes of being complete, I ended up buying a Varta silver from a dealer over in Macclesfield. £80 delivered and it made an immediate difference. I also bought an Airflow battery conditioner for when it's in hibernation. It's a belter !

Should I renew battery now, though, guys?
James. 9 Posted April 7, 2012 Personally I'd only change it if it needs it. You may not notice a difference yet, but that may change once the weather grows colder.
