Vr6 , tt seats

same here!!! iv been wanting these since the first page of this thread!!! , just cleaning them up and rattle can spraying them satin black, already finished one and its looking rather nice, did you have any problems getting tyres fitted? i cant help but think the tyre place over here will think im mad when i ask them to fit my tyres! , also you have any problems with getting them balanced?

 

Lol I was thinking exactly the same before I got tyres fitted! I took mine upto a budget tyre place in Bedford just to ask if they would be able to fit them, or would I need a specialist with a cheetah? He replied " Naaah it's fine mate, you don't need no f**ckin specialist"......... 3 hours later he was still ****in about trying to get one of the rears on!

I kept saying don't worry mate ill just get the two rears done somewhere else but he said come back tomorrow and they'll be ready for ya. Went back and they were all on and balanced and looked ok! Apart from a small chip out of my fresh paint :(

Mine were 8s and 9s with 205 45s all round. What sizes are you doing?

 

I think if they're banded properly they balance up fine!

tyres i got 45/195 for the front {7 3/4" j} and for the rear 45/205 {8 3/4" j} i would of gone and had them banded to 9" but the offset works out at ET 10 so they now work out at ET17 which should be perfection, same with the fronts they should now be et25/28

had my tyres fitted over the weekend , the tyre guy said he had done a good job as they balanced up fine,iv only fitted them to one side as im not pulling the car out for atleast another couple of weeks, need to sort out center caps of some sort, lol i got an old circular saw blade , with abit of welding i could make some evil looking center caps, duno though as i need another three blades! any ideas? ,

anyway im very very pleased with the offsets of these wheels! they are perfect!!

been busiy getting this ready for some good weather driving :)

finnaly pulled my finger out and got some motivation!! , hooked up the vss wire, for those interested its from pin 54 on the ecu plug its a blue/white wire and then this splices to one of the green fusebox plug wires designated W/1 , havent tested it out but im sure its fine,

 

Went and checked my brake lines and the rear axle hose connections are just badly corroded so thought idd best sort it out now,

basicly sucked all the fluid out the resivoir with a syringe and then the fittings on the bias valve wouldnt budge and were starting to round off even with the brake pipe spanner so i just cut the pipes flush and then used a socket which worked a treat on all 4 fittings!!

this is the pipe that comes from the engine bay which was cut flush, just cleaned it up and re flared it,

did the same with the other engine bay pipe and replaced the section that goes across the axle,

just waiting on the spring brake clips to finish it off, this job is an absolute a55!!!!! hopefully tomo it should be done.

Good work, is the vss wire to stop the 4k rev limiter?

 

cheers bud , yea on mine actualy stops at about 5k , i scanned it ages ago and a fault for the vss was there, after this there shouldnt be anymore faults :)

please do , use this pic to find pin 54 it should be a blue & white wire, if you snip the little cable tie on the ecu plug then the little clip just pulls off then you can see all wires at the back of the main plug, i just unwrapped the loom 2" or so and ran the wire seperate through the old throttle cable hole as im now dbw pedal, so theres no need to unwrapp the whole loom to do this , shouldnt take no more then 30mins to do, VAG_ME7_x.jpg

Thanks for that my ecu is mounted inside the car as I've smoothed the bay so will be easy to run the wire will let you know how I get on,,

finished off the brake lines! not fun at all!!

 

 

scanned my ecu today to clear the 1fault previously logged, hopefully now it should stay fault free :)

cheers , not yet only had it idleing , i want to drive it and let it warm up properly before i start reving it as its been awhile since its been driven,ill more then likely get it insured next week as the weathers getting better,also spotted a bulge in the cutch slave cylinder flexy so looks like i will be replaceing that aswell! its never blady ending!!

I know what you mean I'm always chasing one problem after another but there isn't much I haven't changed for new now so might get onto paint soon,ish..,

 

How have you connected vcds lite do you use the original obd1 ports?

its useing the mk4 wireing and diagnostic port , was just a case of earth and a live and the K-line

{which its position is noted in the ME7 pic i posted} there are two other CAN wires which are the twisted wires but i dont belive these get used in our situation but its wired up anyway, do you not have a port? get it put in if you dont!

Bit of an update -

 

so last year i ran my car on temp insurance to make sure it was ok before storeing it for the winter, and now the time has come to re insure it, this time iv declared the engine swap and to my surpirse the insurance company dont want anything extra for it! they just require a garage report to make sure its safe which is fair enough,

 

drove it for the first time in ages the other day and everythings working as it should although im still not happy with how soft the brake pedal feels after the brake line replacement although this could be down to me and thinking the pedal was stiffer then it actualy was as iv driven different cars since, just have to bleed it some more to be sure ,

 

also fitted mk3 golf black front leather seats but im not sold on them as they do sit higher up and completly changes the way the car feels so i'll probably be swapping back to the cloth ones, pics to follow soon :)

decided to get rid of the mk3 leather seats, heres the mod required to fit them , you got to move the rail over by about 20mm or so

seeing as i now have banded steels i needed to tidey up the hub center , got abit creative with some cheap studs

since bleeding my brakes from the brake line replacement my brakes didnt quite seem right {no bite}, but i think iv found out why! seeing as my car was stood for some time before the brake line replacement rust has set in on the front discs and the discs now kind of have a glazing on them,

you can see the dark areas of old rust, kinda thought when i first drove it since being stood it might just burn off with a few miles of driving,

no point in hopeing it might burn off with driving so i just got the DA sander on them with 80 grit and sanded it all out back to clean metal,

also replaced the pads with some oem ones,

my car is officialy insured with the new engine! :) engineers report was done a few weeks back so im realy chuffed about that going well,

just need to find the engine number so i can declare that on the log book,

 

iv since disconnected the wire i put in for the vss as for some unknown reason its giving my throttle pedal an intermittent fault which another forum member also had from this, basicly i can drive the car 40min straight no problem but if i stop off some where for 30mins or so then when i start up and move 5meters the throttle pedal doesnt work! i have to switch off and back on again! and its like the for the rest of the journey home , upon starting the next day its fine for a straight journey until i have to stop off, i can live with being limited to 5.5k revs for now , anyway got new rear discs and bearings to go on , this time around useing genuine parts!! cheap discs warped! so i get an annoying squeek once the disc n pads have warmed up!

corrado sunday :)

 

spent a couple of hours on it today, new bearings and disc's turned up last week,

I used a 30mm socket {shaved slightly using a drill and sand paper} to drift the first bearing race in,

then to get the other race in I used a piece of 1 1/2" steel pipe, perfect fit!

seeing as my banded steel wheel has no center I can fit the disc and spin it and adjust as required through the wheel :)

awaiting final adjustment in a few days time before I fit the grease cap back {cotter pin has been fitted this just an early pic before wheel went on ;)} also cleaned up the old pads using sand paper to remove the old glazeing,, DSCF0270_zps5df7b398.jpg

 

also found out why my sunroof is leaking!! the plastic tray is leaking through a join of some sort! bugger!

ah cant belive i aint updated this for this long, cars still in my ownership and engine wise is running awesome/fualtless!! sadly windscreen rust has returned :( but im sorting that right now!! i have re trimmed the headliner and sunroof panel with faux black leather! looks pretty damn sweet too!! i also have front black leather heated audi tt seats to go in along with rado leather rear seats and door cards to go in once i have re fitted the windscreen and repainted the roof ;) pics might come eventually but im not as motivated as i once was

Right! This year so far hasnt been pleasant in regards to my rado :( iv literally had to redo the roof/windscreen, welding in new sections in either corner of the windscreen as the metal was to far gone the first time, it blistered my paint where the rust returned!

{took 2 years to start bubbling up} So dont ever use rust converters EVER! they dont work! all traces of rust must be ground/sanded out completely and NOT wire wheeled/brushed,

 

didnt take any pics of that work as i wasnt in the best of moods, i just got on with it, i cant take credit for the colour and clear coat which im abit gutted about tbh as i cant say its all my work!

Any way its getting there and i can now move on with things that i want! , picked up leather stuffs last year inc Audi tt seats! got them fitted in today , werent that bad to fit, followed the wiki guide on here, added a few things different, its worked out great, they are a little higher but not much 15mm? they slide effortlessly,feel nice and the best bit is the price!! £140! considering how hard it is to find rado front leather seats which wont need repairing at the cost of X , i think TT seats are an awesome alternative!

, the plates that slide in the runners need to be nice and tight! so not to move up or down potentially makeing noise, you also need to cut out the original front mounting point on that cross memeber,

the front tt mounting points are angled 45, hammer or press them flat,

i then welded them to add strength ,

ah crap! seem to have forgotten to take pics at the right times! my bad!

you also need to add spacer blocks to the rear box section {10mm} to level off with the front cross member,

 

So once that rear box section is made up you can slap in the seat and mark the front holes to be drilled on the cross member and poke the bolts up through {which i welded to stop from spinning}, now the hole nearest the gear stick isnt level its lower then the rest and crooked at a funny angle , so i held the bolt vertical as best i could with a magnet and tac'd it , then went to town with the welder so its got a nice bead around out, then added a nut which brings to smack bang on level topped off with a nice washer!

almost got the interior back, just need to finish off headliner and fit rear seats and front door cards ,

great work there. Always fancied putting some tt seats in mine as i believe they are much more comfortable than standard. Shame is they dont come up in cream leather very often.
