DriverVR6 11 Posted February 2, 2013 Car looks really great. Red ones do seem to stand out once they are cleaned and polished. What are the fog lamps you have fitted to your car?
timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 2, 2013 Thanks mate, the car should be stunning once im finished, need to do some paint correction before she goes back on the road, got some fine lines and holograms to sort out but shouldnt be too much of a job, plenty practice on my van with the orbital polisher :-) I think they are venom performance ones but i'm not sure, i'm keen to get rid of them as they aint 100% to my taste and source a set of stock indicators and headlights but funds don't allow at the moment so for now im trying to like them. DriverVR6 11 Posted February 2, 2013 Well, I have a couple of original sets, so if you want to maybe we could do a straight swap? I'll need to dig them out to see condition so let me know. I like the look of the ones you have on yours and wouldn't mind putting them on the 16v I run as a daily. I would always keep the original look on my VR as I think that is the best way to keep them. timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 2, 2013 by all means dig them out bud and we can try come to an arrangement, I will try and find out exactly what they are for you and that they are in good condition (they have been ignored for a while so need to check they aint letting water in etc) Drop me a message once you have checked yours, these will be getting taken out when i polish the car anyhow :-)
Hofmiester 10 Posted February 2, 2013 I did some waxoyl on mine last weekend as a temp measure while I had all the wheels off. However I'm actually going to coat under the wings in the usual rust spots in POR15 which is a epoxy sealing paint. Pretty much indestructible once dry, should keep things rust free! Pretty much indestructible once dry, should keep things rust free! never herd of that, is it much to buy? i was going to do the arches with spray on stone chip coating, i am going to inject the door bottoms, boot lid etc with waxoyl as it needs to be done even if it is never driven in winter. Hofmiester 10 Posted February 2, 2013 It is hardcore and expensive at about £30 a can but a can will do quote a lot as you don't need much. If you fill the cavitys with Black waxoyl it will make a right mess as it will drip out of the water holes. You can buy some clear wax spray from Vw from what I've heard. timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 2, 2013 yeah that was my only issue with doing the waxoyl but i have a full kit sat in the garage....... so how easy is the POR15 to work with? Im presuming it is black so the arches look OEM? ---------- Post added at 6:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 6:31 PM ---------- answered my own question with google, that stuff looks great!!
DriverVR6 11 Posted February 2, 2013 You can also buy clear waxoyl, it's exactly the same as the black waxoly, only it's clear lol. The stuff you get from VW is actually wax and sets harder, whilst waxoyl stays "wet". As The Hoff says if you use black waxoly in the doors and boot lid then it will drip out and make a right mess. Best to use the VW stuff in the cavities and waxoyl (black or clear) under the wings, under the floor, etc. Waxoly is good stuff and I'll going to give mine another blast again once I get around to it. I like the look at that POR15. Where do you get it from??
Hofmiester 10 Posted February 2, 2013 It is a bit of a labour as you get 3 treatments that work together. Marine clean is a degreaser to clean first, the Prep and ready which is a zinc primer coat, then the POR15 Although apparently once done you'll never have to do again! Hofmiester 10 Posted February 2, 2013 Frost auto restoration is the only place I've seen it in the uk. You can buy a starter kit for £15. They also do some stuff call POR15 patch which is really thick like silicone sealant, sets to hard black epoxy and great for putting over seams or any small holes you may have. ---------- Post added at 6:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 6:48 PM ---------- Once you go on the Frost site you'll never get off it ;)
timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 3, 2013 yeah just been looking at this stuff, not too expensive wither, think i will get an order placed.....
timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 7, 2013 Got my new job so finally back working shifts and now have more time tonshowbthe rado some love so here is a small update.... Got a set of front calippers for pennies so got to work stripping them down ready for a nice powder coat before I do a rebuild (I was looking for a cheap set of used rears but couldn't find any so removing them from the car next week so will update when I gt that done) First of all it was time to get the wire brush out and give the calippers a rub down to remove years of grime before I started to strip them down.......... Next Onto the bench to be stripped, slider bolts came out no problem at all but the bleed nipple and pistonss were another story, eventually got the pistons out with a set of mole grips (I'm replacing them anyhow) and then the rounded bleed nipples were removed with the trusty moles. All parts stripped and ready to go to the powder coater. Just need to remove the rears now and get them stripped down so I can drop all the parts off together...... Of course no post would be complete with the obligatory shot of the car in the garage. Again I forgot the camera so forgive the phone pics. Rob

DriverVR6 11 Posted February 15, 2013 Refurbished a set of calipers myself a little while ago. The ones I bought from off this forum were in a sad state and I was never going to put them on the car in the condition I got them in. So I fully refurbed them with new seals, pistons and bleed nipples. I hope you're going to at least use new seals? Not worth putting them on your pride and joy only to discover that your brakes don't work when you need them to...... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?65485-Finally-taken-some-pictures-of-my-VR6/page2
timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 15, 2013 Driver vr6 all of the seals have been removed in the images so yup being rebuilt with new seals :-) Time for another little update, haven't had much time to get a lot done but thought I would post what little had been happening anyhow...... Removed the scuttle and found a filthy mess of soil and leaves that had to be cleaned out Plenty soil sitting above the scuttle drain also. All the plastics and wipers that had been removed were then rubbed down with wet & dry. A good coat of primer was then applied, note the amazing masking ;-) Whilst the primer was going off the ecu cover was removed and cleaned along with the scuttle (pic still shows the mastic that was used to secure it but this has since been removed) Quick snap of the wipers in satin black once dry. All the other plastics done in satin black, just need to get them fitted. Not much going on I know but keeps the thread going. Rob
Goldie 2 Posted February 15, 2013 Dont sell it short, thats good progress... On a side note, a number of people have had issues with their cooling systems because of the black cap, treat yourself to a blue one. Something to do with pressure relief issues.... timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 15, 2013 Thanks mate, starting to look forward to getting her back together and running well so I can get out in the summer and drive her :-) Do you mean a blue expansion tank lid? Are they a dealer part? Rob
Goldie 2 Posted February 16, 2013 Yes, blue cap available from the dealer.

timthetinyhorse 0 Posted February 18, 2013 Got a little more work done today, I say little as its such a small change most wouldn't notice....... I decided to sort the black roof strips out as they were no longer black. Before pic, looking pretty shabby and in need of some love, you can see how badly damaged the outer surface is in the first image. So gave the strips a good rub down with 800 then 1200 wet and dry lighty lubricated with water and this is how they looked. Still some minor pitting but much improved. Next up it was time to treat and protect the strips, I used chemical guys natural look applied liberally and allowed it to soak in, this was done 3 times until the strips could not absorb any more and then they were buffed up with a clean cloth. I'm pretty happy with the results although I might have another go with the 1200 to try lift a bit more of the damage out. Obligatory pic of what I regard as the best plastic, tyre and interior product I've used.
C5 OEM 0 Posted February 18, 2013 Just pull them out and paint them satin black
