mr lobitos 0 Posted January 25, 2014 as you all know my car is for sale, anyway got an e-mail from the pistonheads ad ,lady very interested in car ,answered all her questions,few more mails ,agree price turns out she lives I Bermondsey,london and wants to arrange collection by a specialist firm also will only use paypal, she did say that she'd wait for funds to clear before arranging am I being naïve or is this common practice nowadays advice needed,boys Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

mic_VR 3 Posted January 25, 2014 We sold our old car recently and the guy paid via paypal. We made sure that he paid all the fees and payment was as a gift so he couldn't raise a dispute and get the money taken back from us, and then we waited until the money had cleared into paypal then into our bank before letting him take it. I suspect she wants to use paypal so she can use her credit card otherwise there would be no point not doing a bank transfer which would b far safer and have better visability. P3rks 11 Posted January 25, 2014 Even if payment is sent as a gift it can still be reversed. All the paypal account owner will say is that the Paypal account was hacked and they didn't authorise the transaction with their bank. All that will happen is you'll get the funds, even if withdrawn from paypal and cleared. Then Paypal will just put your account in minus and claim the funds back, through legal channels if need be. Portent 0 Posted January 25, 2014 Sounds dodgy to me although not impossible I guess. It's the collection by a third party that raises concerns for me. Also paypal almost always side with the buyer. It could be genuine , but somethings not right or you would not have doubts yourself .Whose the specialist firm ? i would ask her and check them out . I assumed you were happy they were genuine from your first post. Unfortunately we had loads of emails like that one, all the same style etc. sorry mate. He wouldn't have been able to email you otherwise either! Internet banking isn't blocked so it's definitely a scam. Glad you picked up on it, unfortunately others wont.
