Can't quote me?

Recommended Posts

So I rang up to get a quote for my Corrado VR6 with yourselves on Friday. Have just had a call back this morning to tell me that you were unable to get a price for me for insurance (having spoken to your underwriters) and that I should try you guys again next year instead?

I'm 34, with no points / claims / accidents / endorsements, and looking for a limited mileage policy (2000 a year) on a car that's always garaged and only has a handful of normal Corrado modifications. What gives?

Peter D James quoted me £252 which I'm happy with. Just thought I should be diligent and ring around a bit. Just can't understand how I'm not a safe bet for an insurance company really. Baffling.

As a moderator on the forum it's hard to endorse / stand behind an advertiser if I can't actually get a policy with them! :) It also means that other Corrado owners may struggle...

This happens a lot on sites that I go on from Mlr to msoc evo and Scoob site . They have insurance company's that can't wait to jump on . Offer lots of so called incentives . But then offer crap prices . Gary moulsen at Adrian flux , a so called huge insurance company who specialise on scoobs evos etc quoted me silly money on my blob eye Sti because it was running over 500 bhp . I always shop around and spend hours doing it . No one likes getting ripped off

I paid £365 with admiral for my modified daily MK4 tdi estate and standard VR6 limited to 3000 miles (they matched a Tesco quote - they also own Tesco insurance.....)

I'm 48, no accidents or convictions

Hi Jim, we must have given you a reason. It can't be due to inexperience of the VR6 surely? I know this one's a 2.9 but you've had Corrados before and it looks like you have a Fiesta ST2 too.

best,

Nick

Nope. It was admittedly a voicemail, but was just told that the underwriters wouldn't give a price.

I've owned Corrado's for about 12 years and I've had my VR6 for four years. I'd understand if we were talking about a Veyron here, but even then at 34 I'd think I'd have a shred of sensibility and not put it into a ditch within a week.

I'd love to know a reason if you're able to find out why I was declined a policy?

Weird. Please could you PM me your full name and postcode and I'll take a look. I'm out in London for the rest of the week but will try and get answers during that time.

Jim, I wonder if it's because it's a 2nd car policy, I assume you have used your no claims on the Fiesta, as I understand it you can only use your NCB on one policy, have you tried to use it on the Raddo and its maybe refused you because of that.

I was under the impression they'd be able to offer a typical 'classic' type policy where no NCB is applied, or earned when the car is a second car and does limited mileage as many other specialist insurers do. If that's not the case then that's fine of course :) But there was no mention of no claims in terms of setting up the quote so I figured we were both on the same page in terms of what I was after.

NCB isn't generally taken into account on classic policies anyway, although some will mirror it. You can't accrue NCB though I believe.

Edit; Doh, didn't see the second page you'd replied on Jim. :bonk:

I'm sure there a simple reason to not getting a quote, I was just thinking that because it's a computer based quote as soon as it sees something different to the morn it's just binned the quite out... Just an idea.

Apparently the combination of modifications and the fact the car is not garaged at my home location but elsewhere was enough for the underwriters to decline to insure me. Thanks Nick for looking into it so quickly and a shame I can't insure my car with yourselves!

Most classic insurers only insure cars from 1994 (20 years old).

There are some who insure less years, but prices go up.

And yes, NCB usually not considered and not accrued.

As underwriters changed, so can renewal declined as the terms and conditions changed :(

For example, Peter James changed their T&C from insuring classics being 20years old to 30years old as stated on their website!!!

But if u ring them then they usually insure your car for less years....as do SKY and Adrain Flux etc

I can see maybe why you were declined insurance due to a different address. It could be underwriters do not want to be exposed to drivers using someone else s safer postcode to insure their cars.

But having said that, u have been with Knott's for a number of years and its a shame that its true again, LOYALTY nowadays amount to nothing.

Its probably not Knott's fault either, as their hands tied by the underwriters :(

Still,

At least u got a new insurer :)

Now go and demand UNLIMITED mileage cover for free as I did !!! ;)

And enjoy the Corrado as intended! :)

Peter James for me too, Jim!

Remember to demand unlimited mileage - but only be a tenner or more ;)

Have you tried Adrian Flux, they were the cheapest for me.

Rog.

Me too. marker study through Adrian Flux, £198 but without key cover and recovery, which I have elsewhere anyway.
