NewbridgeJob 0 Posted February 11, 2016 So it looks like I'm missing a knock sensor. Got one on order but how does it actually work? I know which plug it clips into but can't work out opposite end. It has a donut shape on the end with a cable running through it. I'm assuming that's a HT lead, is that right? If so how would you fit it through the hole. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Apologies if these are all massively obvious questions
fla 9 Posted February 11, 2016 Its basically a microphone for your engine and picks up 'knocks' during the ignition part of the stroke. It then sends a signal to the ecu to advance or retard timing. The critical thing is torquing it correctly! Otherwise it won't pick up anything or the opposite -too many things!
NewbridgeJob 0 Posted February 11, 2016 So how does it connect then? Obviously the plug is self explanatory but what about the end? Does a HT lead pass through the centre of the donut shaped bit?
seanl82 23 Posted February 11, 2016 On earlier models yes, donut is located on the king lead for the dizzy. The VR6 has two and are bolted to the engine block. One front, one rear.
