KARMANN 0 Posted February 22, 2016 I'm in the process of doing a fair amount of work to the Storm. One of the jobs is removing all redundant old cables etc from the radio. Whilst doing this I came across some strange things. I found what looks like a thermostat that can be adjusted sitting behind the glove box and is attached via a metal wire to the heater box. Can anyone tell me what it's for? The other thing I want to know about is relays 179 of which there were two and relay 79. These again where amongst a mass of cables behind the shelf in the passenger footwell. What are they for and where should they be located? As they were all dangling. The final item is hard to see in the pictures, but I think it's for the AC. It's located between the interior fan and the housing. It's covered in horrendous tar like stuff. It has hoses coming off it that prevent my shelf from being fitted properly, tried everything to try and bend them or move them, but they won't budge, any ideas? I no longer have AC so would be temped to remove, if I knew where the hoses went. Fraser
seanl82 23 Posted February 22, 2016 The relays behind the glove box are for the ABS. No idea what the thermostat is for, or the A/C bits as I've never seen an A/C car wiring tbh mate.
KARMANN 0 Posted February 22, 2016 Ohh, ABS. That's handy to know as mine is temperamental. Where should they be sitting, as mine were just hanging in a mass of other cables. Cheers Fraser
seanl82 23 Posted February 22, 2016 There should be a kind of bracket with slots that the connectors sit in. Its quite far up so difficult to see if you just have the undertray removed
KARMANN 0 Posted February 22, 2016 I have the glove box and under-tray removed. What are the brackets connected to? The body, the dash? Fraser
seanl82 23 Posted February 22, 2016 The body iirc. I'll try to find a pic tomorrow but you may find one if you google images of corrado abs relays
easypops 8 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) I'll take a picture in a minute, still out in the garage anyway  The relay holders sit in the extrusions you see above the plastic.....this is on the breaker and is why it's a mess.....if you need to see them in place I can sort a pic out tomorrow , it's a bit late for removing car covers etc at this time, not forgetting to mention its Baltic outside  Edited February 23, 2016 by easypops
KARMANN 0 Posted February 23, 2016 That would be great if you could send a picture of them in place easypops. The wiring for my relays come out underneath and come up the from of the heater. Am I right in saying that picture shows the wiring running up the bulkhead then over the top of the heater (between the heater and the dash) then down the front? Cressa 44 Posted February 24, 2016 My relays are in the same position as yours. Kind of just hanging there.. To see the correct mounting would be great
fla 9 Posted February 24, 2016 the thermostat is for the a/c. Allows you to adjust the low temp cutoff point. The pipe is probably lagged in some bitumen-type material. Its for the refrigerant. Not sure how to remove it though, as i still have aircon in mine.
easypops 8 Posted February 24, 2016 Here you go, a couple of pictures of the relays in situ Looks like the wire does indeed travel over the air ducting, not behind it
KARMANN 0 Posted February 24, 2016 Ahh brilliant, thank you easypops. It's a different heater that I've got. There doesn't look like there's enough space in mine up there. Fla, I decided to undo all the bitumen type stuff. Then took a chance on the AC pipes and disconnected them. As there's no AC in the car I thought it safe enough. In the end it was the right thing to do, the pipes passed through the bulkhead and had been cut in the engine side. So I removed them completely which allowed my shelf to slot straight in-delighted.
