Wheel Refurb

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't recommend the wheel specialist in Fareham either Ron. Cost me a bloody fortune, and you could still see where the corrosion had been under the new powder coat.

Although slightly pricey, I used the Wheel Specialist last year to refurbish the wheels on my Octavia. I managed to haggle the price down a bit which helped. There was only kerbing to overcome on my wheels and no corrosion. Was I happy with the service and finish....yes. When I was there they did tell one customer that thier wheels were badly corroded and this would show after they had been refurbished.

I have used BJV engineering quite a few times. They are a bit of a hike away; however they are good value for the service they provide.

Anyone used ColourTech in Portsmouth for wheel refurb.

From their web site it looks like they only spray the face of the wheel as opposed to removing the tyres, media blasting and powder coating the entire wheel which is the best and most durable finish.

Ouch. Seems a little high I only pay £55 each wheel. And they'll even lend you a set of wheels whilst yours are refurbished

Still available from classic parts I believe. The solitude alloys are a lot cheaper. Give heritage a ring to see how much

I know they are not local to Portsmouth, but Lepsons probably offer the highest quality wheel refurbishment service in the south. I have used them on a couple of my cars and would say that the standard of their work exceeds that of the wheels suppled as original equipment.

Yes when I looked a few weeks ago Speedline were roughly 250 Euro each solitude a lot cheaper at 80 Euro as they are more common being fitted to the golf as well.

I stupidly did very little research when I had my wheels refurbished the first time around and used Sweet Alloys as they were literally just around the corner from me.

The work was so bad I can't believe they are still in business. I'll give you the highlights.

1) They didn't rub them down properly so some corrosion still showed through immediately afterwards.

2) They only did the face of the wheel, and only used 1 thin coat of a 1k laquer which you could peel with a finger nail.

3) I had wheel weights on the face of the wheel annoyingly. They didn't even remove them and just painted over them so when I had my tyres changed next, the laquer cracked and has peeled off mostly now.

4) They clearly didn't leave enough time to let the paint flash before the laquer went on so the result was micro-blistering and bubbles.

5) Cash up front only and didn't give a S*** when I wanted my money back at all. Said this is the service we provide and you should have known that before asking us to do the work.

All in all the worst experience of workmanship and service I've ever experienced and now I won't ever get anyone to do anything without thorough research and questioning.

My own

I have now purchased 4 speedlines in need of refurbishment. Anyone used or heard of this company http://www.kandnalloywheels.co.uk/alloy-wheels.html based in Southampton and Porchester because they have been recommended to me. I shall be using the one in Porchester because they are the closest and they offer free collection and delivery if your local.

Ron,

I have visited their workshops and met with the owner. IIRC they do not stock a full range of colours as they are more of a general powder coating company and not wheel refurbishment specialists. They also use a third party to remove and re-fit the tyres. For this reason I opted for the Wheel Specialist in Fareham. I would probably use them if I had other vehicle parts to refurbish where the finish was not so critical.

I used them a few weeks ago for shot blasting and powder coating pretty much all the underpinnings of my car. They did a great job and did a less than 24 hour turn around. Their workshop was a bomb site and they had the most chaotic system for invoicing and pricing I've ever seen. I didn't see any wheels when I was there, lots of garden gates and bits of boats.

I visited K&N in Porchester to give them the benefit of the doubt price was £40 a wheel you are right it looked like a bomb site and owner did not seem to care decided against it in the end now looking else where for my wheels now.

More recommends would be welcome.

How about any companies near Chichester.
