Will.I.Dub 11 Posted January 21, 2018 Hi folks I think this is the kit that I need for my '95 VR: http://www.arz-tuning.de/shop/en/timing-chain-kit-incl-shaft-seal-valve-cover-gasket-sealing-compound-vw-vr6-engine-aaa-abv-aes Can anyone vouch for the quality, has anybody bought one of these? Any advise welcome Thanks
dr_mat 0 Posted January 22, 2018 Did you ask the dealer? Don't think VW parts cost much more and I have heard that the gaskets in particular are better quality. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.
Geeba 0 Posted January 22, 2018 I bought the revised timing chain kit from Stealth, Vince had it in stock and on the shelf - gaskets I bought ether from Heritage or Main Stealer, all have been listed/sold as genuine VW and all have been Elring. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT. Good advice, for some reason I thought that nearly all parts were obsolete from VW but below are prices they came back with today, I am unsure if these are the newer style parts or not. List is from the Wiki here. Can anyone confirm? When I called the dealer I was told pretty much every part was obsolete from about 2014. Make sure you get the revised tensioner without the rivits.. I found bits of mine in the oil pump strainer. dr_mat 0 Posted January 23, 2018 If you want the revised tensioner you have to give them the right part number. They won't look it out for you. A Corrado is for life, not just for the MOT.

Thanks Matt, would you know that part number by any chance?

Will.I.Dub 11 Posted January 24, 2018 Thanks for the input folks,I was speaking to Vince today, I'll be ordering all from him to make sure all parts are correct.
fendervg 32 Posted January 25, 2018 Sounds good - at least you know you will be getting all the right parts. Let us know how you get on. Are you doing the clutch as well?

The kit has arrived from Vince, he took out all the guess work. I am doing the clutch as well, it probably needs the clutch more than the chains but I hear a strange little rattle under load which could be chain/tensioner related and I'd like to rule it out. virtuoso23 10 Posted June 5, 2018 Anyone know if these chain kits are any good? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TIMING-CHAIN-KIT-REPAIR-SET-VW-CORRADO-2-9-GOLF-MK-3-1H-2-8-2-9-PASSAT-35I-2-8/372313507199?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D50546%26meid%3D50edd33eb6f246b488256c004c59e041%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D172966355813%26itm%3D372313507199&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-VW-GOLF-MK3-CORRADO-VR6-TIMING-CHAIN-KIT-SET-021109503A-C781-OE-Quality/172966355813?fits=Model%3ACorrado&hash=item2845992365:g:UzkAAOSwTEJaAAc~#vi-ilComp
Harrier 1 Posted June 5, 2018 I would be wary, seems very cheap I fitted a Febi Bilstein kit to mine, cost around £
Geeba 0 Posted June 5, 2018 No way I would be putting an 80 quid Chinese timing chain on a VR6 engine... if it fails it's the end of the engine.

How much does Vince charge for all the bits for the timing chain job? Does he supply a full kit for a head gasket and clutch change? Im just beginning to think longer term and stashing bits away to make sure i don't get caught short in the future.

Im just beginning to think longer term and stashing bits away to make sure i don't get caught short in the future. I only bought the chain kit from him, and a cheeky BMC intake. TBH without rooting out the invoice I can't remember exactly how much as I bought so many parts from all over at the same time. If I come across it I'll let you know
