They were the wrong ones, you need banjo fittings for the 288mm upgrade

There are two different types of 288mm callipers, one with banjo fitting, one with a screw fitting, and different cylinder sizes - so watch out:

From VR6 Golf3, banjo fitting

3A0615123 calliper with 54mm pistons lh

3A0615124 calliper with 54mm pistons rh

From Passat,screw thread

4A0615123A calliper with 57mm pistons lh

4A0615124A calliper with 57mm pistons r

I've never seen the Passat ones in person, I bought new Mk3 ones from VW when I did mine, and used the Goodridge braided hoses with the banjo fitting.

Both types are ATE.

These are the ones found from your part numbers, note the shoulders are square, these I believe are mk5 type callipers

These are Mk3/4 note how the shoulders taper?

Do big Redd put new sliders and pins for the the pad carrier.

Big Redd send them back looking like new, seals, pistons, guides, sliders, the lot! The only piece they didn’t replace apart from the obvious calliper body was the spring.

I think they ask you to remove all loose parts before you send them anyway. So yes 👍

They do look like MK3, notice how rusty the pistons are. I'd remove the banjo bolts before shipping, there's 2 types of thread pitch and you can use them to make sure you have the correct ones in your hose kit.

They will come back looking mint.

Can you see if there is an anti rattle plate fitted at the carriers where the pads sit . I always wondered whether these should have them?

I think that job is dealt with by that spring contraption?

I think they don't have the anti rattle plate because the pad on the piston side clips into the piston with three spring plates that are attached to the back of the pad.
