FrankyEight 10 Posted March 23, 2022 Hi guys Looking to sell my 2.0 16v Corrado due to losing patience trying to find the reason as to why it won't start. I'm not mechanically minded so am hoping it can go to someone that is, an enthusiast, who can get it running again. I've owned the car since April 2016 and, up until it's current issue, has been fantastic to own and run. It has been my only car in this period, used daily for a couple of years and, more recently, used only weekly as I work permanently from home. Also taken multiple trips in it away to Portsmouth, Brighton, Wales etc. A joy to drive. RUNNING PROBLEM Fuel is not getting from the metering head unit to the injectors. After changing the pump and realising then it wasn't the problem, I decided to pick up and fit a second-hand metering unit replacement, this has had no effect. I then decided to replace the ECU, again found second-hand, still no luck. The engine will run on easy-start fine, if fuel is fed in to the engine, it runs as normal but, for whatever reason, fuel is not getting in otherwise. CAR DETAILS VW Corrado 2.0 16v (9A) 1995 M reg 123,000 miles MOT November '22 FSH Sherry Pearl STUFF THAT WORKS Both fog lamps Sunroof (most of the time) Electric spoiler (at speed and via dash switch) Electric mirrors Electric windows STUFF THAT DOESN'T See 'running problem' above Heater only works on two settings (2 & 4) Handbrake works fine but could do with having two new bolts installed, as one sheared off a year or so ago and I've done a temporary job so that it works. The car is situated in Woking, Surrey and is at the garage there where it's been since January. Until I get down there to take new pics I've attached some here that are a couple of years old but serves the purpose of showcasing it. Thanks for reading, willing to listen to offers. Bauhaus 3 Posted April 2, 2022 I take it you have checked / replaced the fuel filter as if that fixes the running issue you have then this will significantly add to the value/asking price of the car.

Hi, thanks for the message — I'm sure the garage where it's at would have looked at this — I know that the filter was replaced a year or so ago and, seeing as fuel is getting from the pump to the metering unit ok, I presume the filter isn't the culprit? _Matt_ 32 Posted April 2, 2022 Its likely to be blocked fuel injectors but most general garages don't understand the cars. If you have fuel to the metering head it's not going to anything further back in the system. Ideally fuel system needs pressure testing but I would ask for the injectors to be changed- 80 quid for 4. _Matt_ 32 Posted April 2, 2022 Hi, the part no for your injectors in the 9a 2.0 16v is 035133551F. A set of 4 has gone up to £150 since I last looked: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-FOR-VW-4X-BOSCH-FUEL-INJECTOR-0437502043-/373946944932?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Not many people realise but when testing the kjet in these cars you have to lift the flap/disc ontop of the airbox, under the intake boot to simulate vacuum pressure to allow fuel to flow from the metering head (also above airbox). If this isn't done it looks like fuel isn't making it to the injectors. Also E10 fuel is very bad for these cars if you leave them sitting. I had a 9a I put e10 in, left it a few months and had similar problems to you. There were little crystal like deposits on the injectors which blocked 3 of them. An alternative rather than buying new injectors would be to get them cleaned and flow tested but I would guess the labour is about the same as buying new. Assuming the garage you're using may not know the way kjet operates it might be worth you requesting they flow test each injector - it is possible to do this on car with each injector put into little jars. The disc in the metering head (under air intake boot on top of airbox) must be lifted by hand. This is what happens when the car runs under vacuum - the disc/flap lifts slightly to allow fuel to flow from metering headto injectors. This is also why vac leaks on kjet cars can cause you havoc. It is worth finding a garage that specialises in kjet to save you grief. The general garage on the street just doesn't have the knowledge to deal with it. Kjet is simple and relatively cheap to fix but if you're a mechanic from the "computer says replace sensor era" you will struggle and feel like your car has a major issue when it does not. ger040 3 Posted April 3, 2022 That looks a clean car You would be a fool to let it go now that you are that far into attempting to repair it as above get a local specialist who works on older VW's would have this sorted pretty quickly
Keyo 47 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) I bet James would of been tempted to buy this before he restored his sherry pearl is it. Edited April 3, 2022 by Keyo

I’ve got enough on trying to get mine through an MOT, but yes I must admit it peaked my interest for a moment. A lot of car for not so much money. Good luck with the fix/sale, which ever route you decide to take.
Cressa 44 Posted April 5, 2022 Your car looks a great project for anyone at that price. Certainly better than the pile of shite mk2 golf gti project I have blocking my Corrado in the garage. Oooo if I had the space.... GLWS, but I agree with the gents above. Super unleaded and get those injectors refurbished as it's not too expensive. I would love it tho, just as you have. But a non runner is bloody frustrating money pit
FrankyEight 10 Posted April 22, 2022 Hello all, just to draw this feed to a conclusion... the Corrado is now fixed and therefore no longer for sale at £2,000. I may still be selling the car in due course, however I can't easily see how to delete or edit my post here. Thanks for all your comments and interest. That seller is pretty good actually, I've had a few bits off him over the past couple of years at a good price, and they always arrive swiftly. 👍
