As far as I can tell from reading the Supercharged VR6 thread, there's a little bit more to it than just sticking a charger on and getting a chip. IIRC, Kev had to run an oil line up from the sump, get new injectors, then get a re-map so everything behaved itself. Well worth dropping him or Nosky/ChrisVR6NOS/VR6TractorwithNOS/etc.. a PM, or voicing your questions in that thread. HTH, looks like the s'charged VR6 is becoming a very popular upgrade :D

KR Inlet cam, 9A exhaust cam as far as I can see mate.
-
Just called Stealth out of interest, and the rather helpful chap on the phone quoted me 50 quid + vat for the RR session, and said he'd be able to get it done in that time. Fortnight booking on it though... HTH
-
Sounds reasonable. I'm sure Dave will be along shortly to confirm, as he's actually done this swap :D As for blocking off sensors - I think you can just leave them in there disconnected- and swapping the cam isn't essential, just a nice mod. Am interested to see what Stealth would charge for this too.

You can use the 9A head + block with the KR injection system, KR gearbox, engine ancillaries etc... http://clubgti.co.uk/forum/forum_posts. ... 52550&PN=1 Read and enjoy, mucho information in the above.

I just called Aurora , and they asked if it needed blasting - said yes and they said they'd send it away for that - for a brenner! I plan on using them in the not too distant, will let you know... :D
-
By bonnet stay... you mean? The arm thingie that holds it up? Not a lot probably. I just got quoted 40 quid for shot blast/powder coat of my inlet manifold/rocker cover. :D (10 for s'blasting)

Speak to Henny - he undertook this lot last year in JDUB. Think he used JMR for some work, then did the rest himself. 8)

The castings for the 9A and KR are identical btw peeps. As so far as wiring is concerned, you won't have grief if you label where everything goes before you unplug it. You can even leave the gearbox in situ to make life easier. Up to you. The KR never had knock sensors, so you just leave them in place on the 9A disconnected, and the cat is waaay down the exhaust pipe - 2.0L 16V people dump that anyway normally.
-
All the KR ancillaries fit on a 9A lump, of which you can pick up for not much bucks if you shop around. If you're keeping the 9A head, with KR injectors it's all pretty straight forward. If you're using the KR head there are two little locating pins on the 9A block you've got to delete. HTH :D

"Now I've put that sign up, I'm gonna go and find Chris and sort him out for photoshopping my boobs bigger and my waist smaller!"

Impressed with her latest erection, Laura took another tool in hand and got that look about her again... chrishill - aha - thought so! boing...

That's not NOSky's photshop lass is it? Looks rather familiar...

OK, I'll get some decent gauges and the trusty ruler out in the week and double check. I still maintain a piston ring is a circle of metal  Granted, a crucial circle of metal which is bloody expensive...
-
You know you've been using photoshop too much when...
-
Ouch :( It's criminal what VW charge for piston rings, considering it's just a circle of metal! I was specing out the price for my head rebuild too, everything X4 and I was crying - poor X6 VR people!! :(
-
OK cool, looks like I'm OK then. There is a very small amount of play, I think 1.5mm (I guess you mean 1.5mm ;) ) is about right. By sideways I just meant putting two fingers on the top of the piston and moving it from side to side. Thanks for the reply, was getting worried I'd have to replace the rings @ 30 quid X 4 from the stealer
-
Should there be any sideways movement in the piston once it's in the block? I mean, if you jiggle the piston - should there be any play? I'd expect a tiny amount - else it'd wear like hell. Anyone got the official stance for me? Thanks :D
-
Cool, think I'll just replace the lot as a matter of course using genuine VAG parts - gulp... Thanks for the reponses though lads, much obliged. :)

I've got VR6 mounts on there at the moment, but I guess it's totally possible that one porked itself and the other survived. They can with my suspension kit from C&R. Spoke to GSF yesterday, and they said they had the actual mount - but there was some part I had to get from the stealer. I think they were referring to the top plate - which I've got anyway so I think I'm ok. Just to got find the time to go back over everything I've already done once. Grr. Nick - it does it on flat and slope. More pronounced on the slope obviously, but it's always noticable. You can hear something from that area of the car when you are driving too. It's a knocking sound, as if something was loose. Ah more toil
-
I have a 9A head kicking about if you need to go down that route - drop me a PM if you need. :)
-
Like the title says really, my driver's side top mount is sitting a good inch higher than the passenger. Bit odd considering I replaced the mounts and shocks together, using the same parts. Any ideas? Thanks :D

Any chance of a payout from em? Could mean toys for the rado? Sorry to hear you got made redundant all the same, nobody likes to hear that - especially before the weekend :(
