  1. My missus is about 5'4, and still gets the pedal closer to the metal than I do! Welcome to the forum........I am sure you won't be dissapointed with the Corrado, or the people on here! Phil
  2. Don't know how true it is, but a guy I work with claimed the spot repairs he had to his car faded and lost there shine after about 2-3 years. No protective laquer I guess. Might be total lbolox, but worth checking out!
  3. Once a car battery has been flattened, it will never recover properly. Unlike a leasure battery, that is designed to be flattened......but heavy draw, like starting a car, will kill those. You can get dual purpose batteries that are good for both (used in boats, where the battery starts the engine, and provides cabin power), but they aint that cheap. Probably a long term saving if, like mine, the Corrado is a "Sunny Day" car, and sits for long periods. Phil
  4. Thanks! Its the 7424, and will have 6" Sonus SFX pads. Th only info I found was on the US site, and said it was a draw of 3.7A, but I was in a thick mood, and didnt figure out the wattage . The Screwfix 3kVA at £53 delivered looks pretty good then! Phil
  5. Just ordered a a Porter Cable from Autopia, and need a transformer. Anybody know what power rating the PC is? I don't want to go too over spec, but don't want a slow buffer either  Phil
  6. Despite the performance and handling, anything described as "Bug Eye'd" is best avoided IMO. I think they are butt ugly. The standard Imp (the non sporty one) is a dull looking saloon, or a wierd excuse for an estate. The turbo's are just poor lookers that have been Chav'd at the factory, instead of at Halfords. The C has a whole lot more class!
  7. Corrado for Special day, so only does about 2500 miles a year. Astra van for daily use, cos it does about 55mpg, when I thrash it...not exactly fast still, but cheap to run (helps offset C repair costs!) Sometimes get to nick SWMBO's Navara. Anm interesting beast to drive, and supprisingly quick, particularly for everyone who thinks its as slow as it looks, and tries to cut me up.
  8. Megs 'Quick Detailer' spray and a cloth, once its dry? Seems pretty go from the limited times (ok once) that I've used it. Phil
  9. Not sure about there use in cars, but in other uses (e.g. dive lights) HID lamps can take a few mins to warm up to full brightness, and there life is governed by the amount of times they are turned on and off, not hours on service. Minor points I know, but worth considering. IIRC, replacement bulbs are bl**dy expensive too! very bright high temp output and low power consumption though! Phil
  10. I Indicate when driving the A6, or my dads 5 series. Confuses the hell out of other drivers. They have never seen an indicating BMW before, so just dont believe them.
  11. I did THIS It is firmly wedged behind the rear wheel, and secured using a custom hidden hook thingy, on the rear top corner. No drilling what so ever to the car. The box is a GRP mould I made. Some day I will make the female mould, and start knocking them out on mass! Phil
  12. Not sure about the 4 cyl engines, but my VR6 takes about 8 miles to warm up fully. Initial mpg is always pants (about 16 to 20) until she's up to temperature, then we can hit the low 30's pretty easily. Do a 7 mile round trip, note the mpg, then reset the MFA and do it again immediately. I am pretty sure you will notice a fair difference. From an economy point of view, the warmer the air in, the better (kills performance though), as less energy is used heating it during combustion. As the engine warms, the intake temp will rise, thus economy improves the longer you drive it. Phil
  13. For a while now my Signum cat 1 alarm fob has been playing up, but 1 finally bit the dust the other day. Turns out they dont like being washed too much  Problem is I now only have 1 that works, and is also on its last legs. A net search turned up nothing, so was wondering if anyone has heard of or knows what happened to Signum alarms. A name change perhaps? And if all else fails, do any companies make custom fobs for idiots like me? I really don't want to have to get a new alarm, but don't fancy doing the manual over ride with the alarm going off every time I want to drive the beast! Phil
  14. I have a few jobs to finish at the moment (I have no bathroom!), but might see if I can use smooth over the cast, and use it to make a mold for more. Will keep ypu posted! Phil
  15. Was crusing down the A6, between Rothley and the A46 roundabout, Wednesday evening, and some chaved up Corse crept up next to me, then tried to boot past. It got a few feet in front, then the engine blew  I nearly wet myself in hysterics! . Looked like it was on fire, the maount of smoke coming out the back. Sadly though, I slowed and it pulled in front, and then deposited a sump full of oil on my windscreen. Can somone pass the windowlene? Phil
  16. OK, not even a VW question, but I though you guys would probably know anyway! I have just found out that the Astravan my wife drives, and was supposed to have ABS in, doesn't! Sadly, we found out on the central reservation of the M6, after it locked and skidded, avoiding another madly braking car. Obviously I'll take the matter up with the garage that sold us the van, but am not too hopeful. So, and finally, the question is is it possible/easy/expensive to upgrade a non ABS 54 plate Avstravan Sportive 1.7 CDTi to have ABS? Or can anyone recommend a good VX forum either? Cheers, Phil Ovner of small bent red van  :x
  17. On a good day (e.g. warm), and as long as I dont push it, especially hard acceleration, can get 32-33 mpg out of my standard VR, so not that expensive to run, considering the smooth silkiness and performance. OK so mine is only used when I'm playing, so generally average about 25mpg :-P . I have also corked it out from miles and litres into tank, so I know its accurate. *Get a VR, you wont regret it! Phil (*opinion only, please dont sue if it dies, costs a fortune, etc) :D
  18. Just had mine done too. A place in Melton Mowbury does them for £50 a wheel, and a really top quality job, with a decent laquer that is sooooo easy to clean off after a drive:). Don't think Melton will be too much help though....... Phil
  19. So the spare oxygen from the electrolysis then, can that be fed into the intake also, and make it go a little better? Faster, more complete combustion, less % nitrogen (and I do actually mean nitrogen there!) in the mix, more complete burn, possibly giving increased performance and lower emissions (e.g. more 0xygen means less CO and more CO2 etc). Might get a bit hotter though. Phil
  20. I gave up looking for mine. Bentleys manual was no help either! Turned out to be the steering wheel contacts though! Phil
  21. http://[url=http://www.hydrogen-boost.com/]http://www.hydrogen-boost.com/ To supply 20-30 amps, you'd probably need a new altenator too! I'd be interested to see how you go. I have a few projects on now with off road diesel emissions at the moment. Phil
  22. Cardboard and old plastic bags is the way forward! first step was to totally line the boot with plastic, sheeting, to avoid resin spill damage, then randomly slapped mat and resin in the hole. Easy really. Trust me, though, behind the carpet and front piece of MDF, its scruffy as hell! I can do some more pics/instructions if you want. Phil
  23. Yeah, It's not a bad compromise though. The volume was calculated (have some very useful software for windows!) and measured, the box has no parallel surfaces, so should avoid standing waves/strange resonances etc. The construction is very stiff, as GRP is anyway, plus there are a few stiffening ribs inside to boot. I admit I would have vented it, but the volume would have been about twice thw size, and I'd never get the dive kit in there with it! Sometimes practical has to win. :( Phil
  24. The mould would need a little work first - a bit too lumpy to see ATM. I would have made it easier if I could have rolled the car over to do the top bits! Bl**dy resin too runny! Phil
  25. Finally got round to finishing my install. Not the greatest sub or amp I know, and not exactly sexy, but it sounds a damn site better than without, and I still have a boot/spare tyre etc. The space was too damn complex to make an MDF box, so I lined the hole, took a GRP mould, and stuck a face on it. It sounds pretty resonable, with a vol of 19.8l, Qtc of about 0.76 and F3 of 46Hz, for the technical buffs! And yes, I do realise the speaker ain't quite level! I managed to make a clamp thingy to hold it in place too, so no drilling or gluing to the car. All I need to do now is stuf in a little rockwool (absorber) tidy up the wiring and re-fit a boot light.....a few ultrabright LED's I think! Phil OK.so I need to work on not posting the same pic twice!
