1. My girl is having running issues caused by corrosion on her MAF sensor plug :( The rubber boot has corroded and has been allowed to let in water in the past but as she's an Auto, if she stalls it's not just a case of dipping the clutch and firing her back up, it means a full stop and put her in 'Park' sadly this has already caused her to be rear-ended once. If anyone has one with as much wire as possible I would be eternally grateful. I called a local mech who dealt with a lot of C's and he told me that all he has are 16v's at the moment, but my best chance would be from a VR6 engine from either a C or a Mk3 golf. Thanks Dawn
2. I keep one in my boot but have no clue what kind it is. I shall take your advice and get one for the glove box. I keep a seatbelt cutter and window hammer in the glove box. For a few quid it is something I hope I never have to use but even if I needed it to help someone else I'm glad I carry one. Good advice! Dawn
3. That white one above I spotted a beautiful mystic blue in Kempston retail park tonight, N reg, looked tidy. Gave a toot and a thumbs up but drove away quick as I am always worried I look like an obsessed nutter rather than an admiring enthusiast. Does anyone drive a Corrado and not enthuse? I'd find it hard to believe Dawn
4. As a bonus, I just learnt this. I should probably read this manual
5. This is in my manual Hope it's readable. Same thing happened in an old Audi A4 I had. I just lived with it though. Long term it's not great but at least you got her going!
6. It looks like it's far too late to offer any help here (not that I have any suggestions) but I sincerely hope you got it sorted? I don't even use my scorpion alarm, I only use the key to lock/unlock the car. I imagine when they go wrong they can be a right pain. Anyway I hope you're reading this from home and not from work!
7. Got the wheels aligned today, they were way out so now I finally have a straight steering wheel  she handles so much better, I can't believe it took me six months to pay £42 for something that makes such a difference! The ABS error from Thursday night seems to have cleared (or gone back to being very intermittent) I haven't seen it since the alignment... Well, you never know  ETA - she was also given lots of Corrado-love by the guy who did the alignment. He had some history with Roccos and Rados and is running a Mk2 G with a C's VR6 engine :)
8. Washed it, dried it, took it for a drive where it developed an ABS fault while stood in the carpark outside KFC. Hoping it's just water on the sensors and it'll be gone tomorrow. Hoping to get the wheels aligned and tracked tomorrow, don't plan to have to get her fault-read too :)
9. ^^^ Sorry to sound all gushy but one of the other great things about the Corrado is it's owners :) The word keeps coming up: "special". The Corrado is special, we are very lucky to have one. We don't need a new one, it would never compare.
10. One of those situations where you later come up with all the smart-arse replies you could have said :D I would have said then you'll know that it's a corrado NOT a scirroco! I had a "nice car love" shouted to me on Wednesday while parking her up. And in a supermarket last week I parked (slightly deliberately) next to a Mk1 golf that had admittedly seen better days. A guy drove by in his mk4 and stopped he car and had a good look (at both cars, but mainly the Rado) then drove slowly away looking back as he went.
11. I'm in agreement with you re: the Corrado. The fact it's rare and few people know what it is, is one of the things that make it special. I like how people double take when they see one, they probably think it's a golf then realise it's something different, something they've probably never seen before. Then there's the people who know them, they invariably admire it and the fact you've got one. I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste but they are the people who float on by, no doubt jizzing over the current Civic incarnation or the new "oooo look at me and my masses of personally" mini. If money was no object I would buy a Mk2 Scirocco (I just love 80s cars) and a Mk3 Scirocco then I'd hate on the Mk3 for fun. You're spot on with your description, often I think there's a Mk3 up ahead or behind and it turns out it was a Pug or an Astra in the distance :D
12. Haha! Brown Corrado babies! I don't have much experience with bodywork but looking at the damage I would be happy to pay that price to get it fixed :) Good luck, let hope they can fit her in quickly!
13. Poor thing! Love the colour though and hope you get it fixed up soon! P.s. I find it amusing you refer to it as a 'him' mine is a girl. It's the first 'female' car I've had! It's a shame we can't breed them, though I'm not sure what colour khaki and red would produce!
14. I'm actually quite impressed by some of the examples posted here. I quite like how it looks and I imagine it's very rewarding once complete as it's pretty hands on job. I'll just keep mine clean for now ;) it looks less scary when most of its hidden though!
15. That sucks Mark, hopefully one day you can get another one but needs must as the devil drives :( I've been playing with mine today, took off the auto gear-selector cover and fitted a new bulb (the old one was missing) found the little green bulb cover hiding under the selector "bit". Then I pulled out the twisted gaiter strip and found it was broken. I attempted to fix and reinforce it with black vinyl but the stuff I bought was crap and wouldn't stick so I used some of my daughters fancy duct tape (temporary measure that saved me a forth trip out today) slider woks perfectly now and it looks so much tidier. Not a fan of the pink, despite being a girl, so I'll change it for black/leather/get a new one. My next step for tomorrow is to make a new number strip. I have some ideas how to do this and let's face it, it can't look much worse. At least I have gear lights now. Edit: More done to this. It's hopefully temporary so by no means perfect the letters are too big for a start, but the old strip was ugly, brittle & caught on everything so until I can source a replacement cover this will have to do. The letters are actually purple. If I can change the bulb for a blue one it'll look better. The goal is OEM, just hope a good one comes along :) Incase anyone ever comes across this in a search: I straightened the gaiter with a hot iron between newspaper then allowed it to cool flat under a heavy book. This took out all the kinks. The Selector illumination is a 286 bulb. The fuse governing this is 16 (ABS light/spoiler/glovebox light)
16. ^^ :( not by choice then? Mines been in the repair shop today. Sadly VW were unable to supply a new MAF sensor plug (female connectors have bad corrosion) the one they sent my mechanic was a slightly wrong fit, so I'll head down to the locally recommended VW breaker in the hope of recycling the part tomorrow. In the mean time she's overnighting as she has a faulty ABS sensor corroded to her. I'll be picking her up in the morning after she's been though this > > >
17. Bless her, she does look a little manky but if you're like me you'll relish a dirty C and have her clean in no time. I have to say I'm not normally a fan of nugget yellow BUT the wheels and blue calipers set it off perfectly, your dirty motor may have changed my mind! Hope you get her running soon and can enjoy a drive :)
18. I don't mind a corrado modded to the hilt (though I keep mine as original as I can) so long as it's done properly. Huge arches and wheels can suit a C more than some cars I've seen but in this case: poor car :'(
19. If I could 'like' this post I would! Well done, it would be sad if another Corrado was given it's wings!
20. Mine's red inside and out and has all the factory stickers. She's also sexy as hell but that's another thread...
21. I often follow or lead a new scirocco/read:Astra on my way to work, I'm waiting for the day my spoiler is activated in their face. I know the rocco didn't have one but I unfortunately feel the unjustified scorn that some old mini and beetle owners feel towards their newer versions. It's not that they aren't nice cars I just don't feel they are distinctive enough to deserve the scirocco badge. I've seen that concept before, again it's a nice car in its own right but it's not a 'corrado' personally the corrado is more to me than looks, it feels like it was designed to be a bit special. What's that one got that others don't? Saying that I now like the fact my car seems to have none of the things new cars have. Except the windows closing when you key-lock the car. Even my husbands new Merc doesn't do that :D
22. Parked up at the pub and a guy in the beer garden was practically jizzing over my car. He was ammusingly being very theatrical about it. He said he nearly bought one a few years back and has regretted not doing so ever since and that seeing mine makes him want to make some space at home and just get one in the near future. It was nice to not only have compliments but actual adoration for the old girl :)
23. Interesting reading the comments, I didn't know the tank was plastic! I may geek up on various fuel reviews and perhaps try not to use sainsburies muggle-fuel again haha! She now has about 40% sainsburies 97RON and 60% tesco 99RON so I reckon the fuel could now be 98Ron (I'm making a complete guess that 'RONs' work that way :D) but I ended up working from home so didn't get chance to see if she's back to normal today, if indeed she was ever not normal. There are no Shell garages near where I live which is a shame, they seem to be the rarest. I always try to use high octane because it says to under the petrol flap. I have had a few intermittent lumpy running issues which I finally narrowed down to corrossion in the MAF sensor plug. There's a small crack in the housing that was letting in water. Contact cleaner and insulation tape has resolved the problem. My intermittent ABS sensor fault has been almost completely cured since the car has been garaged (I did notice it was worse after a wash) so I wouldn't dismiss the fact that now she's running fine I'm possibly inventing things that are wrong :bonk: or maybe not ;)
24. I had wondered that nrc, I had fuel issues in an old car related to one particular garage on my weekly route so it could have been a crappy batch or as you say crap in my fuel tank. She's an automatic and has just 74k but I think it's time to face an ATF change too. It could be knowing that effecting my perception of her performance. I have to admit I have become a bit paranoid since swapping to an "older" car.
25. I alway try to use the high octane (RON) fuel, preferring Tesco or V-power as they are both 99 RON. Yesterday the car was almost on the red having used up a full tank of 99RON Tesco fuel, so I nipped to sainsbury and put in £20 of their "super/premium unleaded" since then my car doesn't feel the same. It's not that the power isn't there I just feel like she's working slightly harder to deliver it, almost as if she's heavier  I'm going to pop down to Tesco later and top her up with the 'special' stuff again. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it just seems strange that it could cause such a difference in how the car feels. Anyone else notice a marked difference when using different fuels?
