I found my post...ai was so happy that day :D "Hello! Well I have some REALLY good news The valuation company called to say they agreed their initial offer did not reflect the true value of the car. They now placed it somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 times the amount of their first offer and following my photographic evidence of her condition this was likely in the higher end. This made her repairable!!! I've just spoken to the repair shop who called to say the repair has been authorised and I should have her back in in under two weeks I cannot stress how happy I am about this. In case anyone ever ends up in the same situation and finds this thread: Corrado was deemed uneconomical to repair - offered trade value of the car - Refused. I wrote an email that included the following: -Attached photographs of my recent receipt for purchase of the vehicle (proving total paid and mileage) -A link to the current Auto-trader listings, thankfully including a couple of similar mileage and condition. -A link to the "how many left" website listing the number of identical models are currently licensed/SORN -Two recent photographs of the vehicle to portray its condition (inside and out) -I also explained how the car was bought as an investment, that their increasing rarity will only result in the value eventually increasing. -I ended the email with a few quotes from the Financial Ombudsman's website ("technical notes regarding vehicle valuation") That stated the vehicle should be assumed to be in higher end of the value scale if it was recent purchased from a dealer and that owner should be compensated in such a way that they should be able purchase another vehicle almost identical to the one stolen or damaged. I cant wait to have her back now, thank you for all the advice and kind comments I've received, I look forward to many happy posts in future."

Gutted for you, if you look at my post history my first post was because the insurance company wanted to write-off my car but I fought for her, I posted the details of my argument. Just incase you have a battle on your hands. I hope physically you're okay though even if a little heartbroken. Take care of yourself Dawn :)

I'd have moved the rug over it ;)

I'd like to thank you for posting this too, a friend of mine sent me a black sticker for my car (sexy angel and devil girls back to back, just about sums up a C imo) and I wasn't sure where to put it, I am paranoid about sticking things to the bodywork (I have stickers in the windows, CCGB sticker, V-Dub fish etc). I saw yours and thought "TANK FLAP" I put it on earlier, I'm pretty pleased :-) eta: Are those oil spots on the ground? :-P looks like my driveway too! :D

How much has been spent on your Corrado over the past 10 years?
DPS replied to andygal's topic in General Car Chat
well, I've just added up her receipts and it comes to a grand total of £6,226 in ten years (1st receipt counted was dated the 29th October 2004) I have to admit an avg of £600 a year neither fills me with dread nor a sense of great joy. She is low milage and has clearly always been dry stored and loved but all her issues so far have stemmed from lack of use :( I'm hoping that if I keep her serviced and don't ignore any nagging issues, regularly checking for changes then she'll do me proud, 77K is nothing for these engines I assume, not when heres 200K+ cars out there still running strong. -
I had a thumbs up from from an 'older' (looked mid-70s in age) gentleman as I overtook him on my way to work yesterday. He was diving a mk2 escort rally prepped, spots, massive fat wheels and rally decals, looked lovely but he was driving it very carefully! Only problem now is if actually want one, I couldn't part with the C for one though.

To be honest they can say what they like, until the muggle-bus and the company of it's bus-****ers is more fun than my car, I'll continue to choose the car over their extortionate, poorly organised public transport system. The petrol is worth paying for just to avoid the alternative. But I reserve the right to moan about paying for it :D
-
I actually think the lack of decrease is environmental. The message given for years has been that resources are low and we need to think of alternatives. It's same reason they increase tobacco duty, so they earn more off the smokers while appearing to be encouraging people to give up. I do agree though it's very unfair to squeeze us like this. I'm not convinced the money earned from the duty paid goes into finding these alternative sources either. Dawn

It's the third person I've had ask if she is sale in 6 months, I just wish it would happen when I have a friend within earshot, it may stop their mockery over my car obsession ;-)
-
I was in stop/start traffic on town yesterday when a lad in a silver newish golf coming in the opposite direction gestured for me to wind down my window. He asked if the C was mine I said yes and he asked if I was selling, I told him no way and laughed and he said he just loved it so much :)

I see the top gear site mention the Corrado VR6 on their scrap age scheme victims list... http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/20-saddest-scrappage-scheme-victims-2014-09-30 It's number 20 on the list btw (best til last ;))

Until I get my vanity disk, I may put in the one I bought on the day I bought her, it is stamped with our "anniversary" date but it's only a few days before her birthday. I'm already planning her 21st birthday "gift" :thumbleft: I'll be broke if I have to get her an anniversary present too :bonk: Sometimes I query the love I have for that damn car!!!
-
Ahhh that elusive Volkswagen Corsa... I've always wanted one of those :D :bonk: It's a shame so many Sciroccos were scrapped too, I'd love one to keep the C company but finding a good one is hard. Plus you'd have to be insane to have twice the headache :D
-
I plan to buy a vanity tax disk for mine in the 1994 style and colour and dated with her registation date and stamped in the original loaction etc. There's a few companie online that do them. I'm not too bothered about the windscreen clutter, if I had her first disk I'd put that in instead.

And as my experiance has taught me, a 20 year old car that's been stood about (even dry stored) and hardly used from year to year comes with a whole load of other problems :( Dawn

My 1.8T Rado......End of the adventure.......Gutted!
DPS replied to rado-steve's topic in Members Gallery
I love my Corrado... Some days I want to kick it, but I keep it to myself because driving that car makes me so happy, when she's running well, all the stupid sensor faults and the list of "things to do and fix" vacate my mind and I just smile :) I know how I would feel if I lost her, so my thoughts are well and truly with you :( I hope you can salvage whatever you can and you'll be back driving another one soon, perhaps with a few nugget donations, keeping her spirit alive :) Dawn xx -
Sure, Id be very grateful, I have bought a new MAF and fitted it Wednesday which has cured the misfire and *so far* the fact she'd slip into limp home mode. But the 5th spade connector on the plug is shot to bits though corrosion, I don't know where to begin replacing the wire and figure the primary cause is the fact the plug is letting in through water and has caused the corrosion. If I can just replace the whole dam thing I hope it resolves the problem. Right now, when I slow down for a roundabout, occasionally, the MAF "disconnects" and the engine stalls. I am going to take the air box and MAF off tomorrow and grease and fit new hose clips in case there is an air leak. I can't escape this dammed plug though grrr! Thanks for your reply ;)

I'm still looking for one of these if anyone has one :( It's getting pretty desperate...

Mine recently hit 75,000 I did the same

I have an auto VR6 and I average 30mpg on fast roads and about 20-24 on a town run. The faster I drive the better the MPG.
-
shire38, sorry to hijack but I'd be interested in this too. I actually have a new MAF sensor sat in my basket on the Euro carports website. But i don't want to go to checkout without more advice :-) My C is an Auto, and it is experiencing all the same symptoms (it too is the type that cuts out when unplugged). It's currently sat at 75,700 miles which I believe is about right for a MAF change? It had new plugs in its last service about 2,000 miles ago. I get occasional erratic gear changes when she seems to lose power and slip into sports or limp home mode and it seems to get more and more frequent. I don't really want to spank a huge amount of money on something I don't need...

1995 (M Reg) Corrado VR6 Breaking - Updated with Pictures
DPS replied to P3rks's topic in Cars for Breaking
I couldn't see it on your original list but I thought I'd ask... I'm trying to source a new MAF sensor plug and wiring loom (not the MAF itself) as my plug has significant corrosion. You don't happen to have one going from this C? Cheers :) -
Reece it looked subtly lowered but aside from that it looked standard. There was a couple in it. My first was actually you but yours is a K plate? Also as you're local, I managed to find a specialist in pampisford Cambridgeshire, the garage is called etech if you look em up. I spoke to them on the phone the other day about a part but sadly all they had in for breaking were 16v Rados. They guys there both own one though and it sounds like they save anything they can keep the rest on the road.

Scorpion alarm/immobiliser issue, please help as i'm stuck at work...
DPS replied to afterlife's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Thanks! It annoys me they didn't clean the floor. I would guess by it's history, my cars had a few enthusiasts! How's your alarm? -
Thanks for the replies, I have no idea, where can I find out? It's an L reg (94) as soon as it stops p'ing down I'll go out and take a look :) She's managed the past 50 miles with only a couple of erratic gear changes into limp-home mode. No stalls though. I've given the contacts a clean but the contact cleaner seems to have left a white film. It sounds a bit dim but I'm not sure what to clean the contacts with. The female side looks pretty bad to be. It is safe to touch them with anything? I've done some research and dielectric grease apparently helps insulate the connections, (search 'cagemod') I've ordered some but I think ultimately a new plug is my best chance of a fix. I will replace the MAF too.
