  1. Like pants... One to wash, one to wear, one for spare. Some of these are brilliant!
  2. When I'm out and about I expect loads of compliments on my car. I never get any. I'm pretty sure she looks good so I have come to the conclusion they are all too shy or they no nothing of cars ;) Then yesterday a group of young lads in modded Mk5s who had parked next to it in a car park started asking questions and complimenting it when I returned. And today I was checking tyre pressure when the guy in the car behind me told me I had a "beautiful motor". Now all I need is someone to rave about it in front of my husband or friends so they can see I'm not the only one
  3. I cleaned all visible paintwork in the engine bay and the underside of the bonnet today. Then I wiped down the hoses and engine cover etc and used some trim gel on the black plastics. It's a bit of a turd with glitter on thanks to the manky sound proofing but I don't think it's been cleaned in 20 years so it's better than it was. Then I gave it a body wash, dry and touched up all the trim. Took my VR6 badge off and resprayed ready to go back on tomorrow. I hope the weekend weather stays like this.
  4. Okay, I'm not counting my chickens just yet, but, I have a feeling the only thing needing diagnostics is me! When the car stalled the other day, I did for second think I'd actually knocked the car out of 'D'. Well, I just took it out to get fuel and as I was about to head onto the local bypass I went to change gear. In the absence of a clutch I slammed my foot on the brake :bonk: I thought the car had stalled again then realised what I'd done! The two days my car was in the mechanics being serviced I drove my friends manual and as a result I think I've gone into manual mode and this is possibly what happened the other day... Slamming on the brakes has also cleared the ABS light (for now). I love this car so much but it's turning me into a paranoid embarrassing idiot :D
  5. Yes only the high octane stuff in my tank ;) I don't have the original box, apart from parking sensors and stereo, it's the only thing that's been modified. I'll check out who's open BH Monday and take her then. I probably should have done it today but I got a bit carried away cleaning the engine bay and underside of the bonnet. The sun was shining and suddenly it was 5pm before I knew it:o. Thanks for the response :)
  6. I have a 1994 VR6 Automatic 73,000 miles When I first had the car it ran fine for a while then suddenly cut out when entering a roundabout. This was followed by some erratic gear changes. It turned out to be caused by the air box (BMC-CDA) coming "unplugged" Since then it's been fine. I had it serviced last week and it was running beautifully. Then as I turned right at a junction it cut out again the other day :( the car restarted right away (a real pain to do it in a hurry in an auto) and it again ran fine. I checked the connectors and drove the 20 miles home (lots of roundabouts and right-turns) with no problem. My first suspicion is fuel it has just under half a tank and had a new fuel filter as part of its service. Other than that it has an ABS fault. Pre-service is had an intermittent fault when going over big speed humps but the service found one of the brakes binding and they resolved this hh giving it a damn good clean. I'm wondering if they damaged an already faulty sensor. It was next on my list to sort but my new concern is the cut-out. If I get the ECU diagnosed would it record the reason for the stall? As well as the ABS fault. I'm taking it out later when the roads are quiet, I'll fill her tank up and see how she goes. I'm down to one car until Thursday but I'm sure some franchises offering diagnostics will be open Monday... Bloody car...
  7. I just got a quote for mechanical breakdown for my Corrado £15.21 a month. I'm wondering if it's worth taking it! I'll have to read up on what it covers but I expected more than that for a 20 year old car.
  8. Bought one :thumbleft: My rear wiper works as Portent describes though I didn't know about the intermittent timing :) I'm just hoping there is a magic "fix everything" button I have missed. It's amazing how you can get into your car and just love it then by the time you've arrived back home you're cursing the day you ever bought the damn thing. My spoiler works though;)
  9. Picked my car up tonight following her service (a few £'s lighter) and I accidentally (on purpose) switched off the ignition and removed the key only to discover I'f carelessly left the windows down. But it was okay! Because the windows closed when I key-locked the door! I have no idea why that small touch has made me so happy! I'm going out now to test Yandards claim it goes both ways! Edit - mine doesn't but I wouldn't have used that feature anyway :) I wish I had a user manual for my car, I have every receipt spanning her existence no no flipping manual) Does anyone know if the manual is available in PDF format anywhere? I'd love to know exactly what the trip computer is doing and how the rear windscreen wiper is supposed to work (mine seems very un-user-friendly)
  10. Oh yes sexy seat rubbing action! Mine is overnighting at the mechanics as she is being serviced (with a few extras) but I'm going to try that when I get her home. The windows that is, not the seat rubbing ;)
  11. I'm just with the AA the one time it broke down (air filter came unplugged) I was assigned an AA man who used to own a C. He followed me home to make sure all was fine and raved about seeing the spoiler rising :D Can't say I've had issues with the AA but I've only ever had to call them a few times in 12 years. I would feel better with a breakdown company who had "classic" experience though, I will look at classic insurance this year but in the mean time I'd say breakdown cover is a must.
  12. The lady's reaction as he drives by is how I imagine people react when I drive by ;)
  13. I like it when the spoiler rises as I overtake :D I've toyed with the idea of adding text to the panel on the number plate lights. So when it rises it becomes visible... "Goodbye" or "try harder" have crossed my mind along with some less subtle ones ;)
  14. I think the European version is set at 60mph. UK Was 45mph then 56mph in the later models. Mines a 1994 and it rises at 56mph. Edit - Is your car an import? If not then they can be adjusted, I have seen guides posted online.
  15. Not only is this the best corrado video ever after the 80s greatness it gets technical and claims the spoiler "reduces rear-end lift" http://youtu.be/_L0IcCVmYAo
  16. I feel embarrassed to have only personally owned four cars! But I really love seeing the old photos^^^ it's amazing how many Corrados some people had owned and they keep coming back for more! A 1.1i Saxo was my first car and oh did I love it. It was so reliable and I part-exchanged it at over 130k miles (110k were mine) it never once had a problem and drove me all over the country. It was the first expensive thing I ever owned since moving out of my Mums and when i went through some rough times it was all I owned in the world. Funny how a cruddy little car can make you happy. After that I had a Toyota Yaris and Toyota Corrolla Then the VR6 (my dream car) my mum had three Golf cabriolets when I was a kid she still has a K-reg Ravagé. My brother has always collected Bugs, MK1&2 Golfs and Polos and Caddys so I think my family has always had a VW obsession. I have regularly driven my current and previous partners vehicles (a Subaru Impreza, LR discovery, various fiestas, escorts, Audis) The husbands car is a Merc C class.
  17. My husband and I used to drive his old diesel Audi A4 like this and compete to see who could get the highest MPG (photographic evidence was required). My C is an automatic the best I've had is 31Mpg oddly enough when I've done the 20mile trip to work and managed 80mph most of the way. Most days I average 27-29mpg driving at 60mph max. I wish I had a clutch :D The girl had a wash and polish today after I unblocked the drain hole behind the petrol flap. I noticed this was an issue Thursday and then had a leaky sunroof Friday. I'm hoping the two and their joint occurrence are connected (please tell me the rear right sunroof drain joins the filler cap drain?) My sunroof doesn't work (broken slider) so if the drains need more clearance it's going to be an arse. She has a full service and coolant flush booked for Tuesday so I'll worry more after spanking £££s on that :)
  18. I have a vague feeling they may go up in value in the near-future. I was recently rear-ended and my insurance company were going to write the car off dispite very little damage. They valued my car at £2000 based on a basic valuation by glasses. I argued with them and they revalued it at £4,500-£7,000 deciding that my low milage and 'good' condition placed it in the £6-7k bracket. I have a 94 VR6 flash red Automatic with 73k miles Now, I was just grateful they wanted to repair it, and personally I wouldn't place it in that value range myself. Although I did ask them what my chances of getting an identical car for £2,000 would be, considering there are only 70ish Autos in the UK, this could have effected their figure. But I can't help but wonder if people are starting to invest* in newer classic cars and this will inevitably put the value up sooner than originally thought. There was recently a feature on TV claiming that classic cars are set to increase in value faster than gold. I wouldn't place any great importance in it but it makes you wonder... They featured an H reg BMW and an 80s rolls-Royce if I recall. *I'm not sure a Corrado is a good choice for "investment" Edit - just another thought: the scrapage scheme has lost our roads an awful lot of older cars, I wonder if this has had a knock on effect for some makes/models.
  19. Full exterior polish and trim detailing. Attempted to remove & re-spray the rear badges following the repair shop helpfully kicking them around a work shop floor for four weeks. Found they had used the badge clips I gave them and also some glue. This resulted in serious rage, and a broken script badge :( Found a minor (she says) oil leak, the sump is covered, I guess from driving, but the amount on the ground over 12 hours was tiny. Seeking some specialist advice in the local area tomorrow, something I'd have done sooner if she hadn't been sat in a repair shop for four weeks. If anyone knows of anyone in the Beds, Herts area worth checking out let me know. Read some great restoration threads on here. Panicked. Turns out the corrado of my dreams was better than actually having one on my driveway... At least she's shiney :D
  20. I shall not start on the wonky bumper...
  21. You know, it's not my job to repair cars, it doesn't keep a roof over mine and my families heads, yet, I spotted the problems within seconds. Somehow these "professionals" managed to pass this through their "quality control" it has metalic black parking sensors. METALIC BLACK! I asked them not to bother refitting them as they weren't original and due to the height of the car they pick up everything, but they insisted. I should probably be grateful they're black and not f'ing green or yellow. I swear they were an old set, sat on a shelf and they decided to use them. ...and breathe...
  22. Allowed my insurance company's choice of repair shop to *cough* repair *cough* it :(
  23. Well. I got my girl back today. Not happy :( they scratched the spoiler, the bumper is a few mil out on the right, where it joins the rear wheel arch. And they replaced the bloody parking sensors WITH BLACK ONES!! They have agreed to put everything right, I just need to book it in when I can bear to part with her for a couple of days. It was good to drive again though. I'm going to complain to my insurer and needless to say they won't be getting any future body work requests from me.
