they're pretty easy to bolt up, mine seemed to line up first time, as Jim says with a big bit of glass in them they weigh a fair bit, the biggest problem is remembering where everything goes if you need to swap locks, spoiler mech etc, take loads of pics before you attempt that!

someone must tell debenhams about beetle engines
davidwort replied to davidwort's topic in General Car Chat
this has given me an idea  how about a T shirt with all the Corrado torque settings printed on it, no excuses then  although thinking a bit more, perhaps they would have to be upside down and on the front or mirror printed  -
you could just clean them up a bit, wire brush etc, press in the new bushes and then whack a couple of coats of black Smoothrite or similar on them, that would keep them going a few more years unless they are totally rotten through.

:dorky: saw this in Debenhams yesterday http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... 1107834_-1 since when did the beetle have a 16v engine, surely even Haynes can't make that mistake

I know!! It's ridiculous the utter crap some garages spout to their customers. I can see why someone might say that, although a system should seal perfectly well without any paste (and makes things a darn sight easier if you want to remove, reuse parts) some stainless systems do seem to expand and contract a large amount which I'd have thought doesn't mix well with liberally appled paste. But then if paste has been applied to seal an exhaust that has an underlying fitment problem, how long is it going to seal for anyway?

you can fit a mk3 GTI/VR6 rack to a corrado G60 providing you swap to the 4 stud setup shorter track rods but the Corrado VR6's usually have the alloy cased type of rack (ZF) and a different type of pump to go with it, the TRW racks from the 4cyl cars have a smooth steel casing. I've seen VR6's that have had 8v/16v/G60 (TRW) racks fitted though, so they must be physically the same size (again, apart from the track rods)

not unless you convert to the whole ABF serpentine belt system and associated pulleys

info below should help if you want to check a temp sender: Screenshot-2.png[/attachment:2faxnvop]

I'm pretty sure the KE jet system runs different pressures to the K-jet system, so the lines and injectors are different, probably different opening pressure on the K-jet ones, having the different fitment means you can't mistakenly fit the wrong spec injector to a car.

best to just contact him directly from details on his site mentioning the C forum ad and he said he'd discount by 10%. I'm probably going to send him all of my fuel pump link pipes to make some up to match, then he'll have a pattern for the 16v Corrado which uses 2 different pipes to the golf.

it's definitely replaceable, if a fiddle with the roll pin, done one on mine years back now, they're not cheap though IIRC, you might be better off with a whole new dizzy, some cheap recon ones on e-bay recently.

aww, bless :) it's usually cats that do that looking for somewhere warm to have a kip.

he he, seconds, sounds like misshapen biscuits or something

Jesus!, looks like a Ben-Hur chariot attack down the side

depends on whether you will fit items yourself and if you want pattern or OEM bits you could do it yourself for: 20-50 quid for a S/H headlight 300 ish for a complete aftermarket exhaust 30 quid ish for rear disks 25 for a pair of rear bearings 25-30 for rear pads worst case a couple of new rear calipers 70-80 quid each exchange plus grease exhaust rubbers etc probably looking at a couple of hours labour for a garage to do all that for you 70 quid upwards

the genuine VW belts are really odd sizes, they are actually 9.5mm if you see the marks on a new vag belt but I don't think the 0.5mm makes much difference :) you may also find they are in 5mm odd length sizes like 945 instead of 950mm. The 1.8 KR engine up until early 1991 has two pulleys on the water pump, the smaller one actually drives it and the larger one that just deflects the belt to the alternator and is actually in two halves with a strange bearing surface between the two halves to allow for slightly different rotation of the inner and outer parts. Over time they all seem to go rattly as the bearing surace starts to wear and break up, usually due to the alternator belt having run a bit too tight for years on end. I've seen the two halves welded up before or you could change to the very late KR (and 9A 2.016v) belt and pulley arrangement. Ultimately you could run a mk3 16v ABF serpentine belt and alternator :) ^^ damage to the bonnet :(

passat is a good load lugger but an A6 Avant so much better built and has loads of nice touches inside the cabin, and a huge amount of rear legroom, definitely worth the premium over a passat.
-
do you have the second idler pulley on the waterpump for the alternator belt, they rattle.
-
are you sure all the vacuum pipes and breather pipes are connected up, it will stall if any of these are disconnected or split.
-
I'd check all of the breather system, from the front of the block up to and including the airbox and filter, if that valve is that bad then I'd expect the air metering flap and air filter to be badly coated in oil too. It's possible, worst case, that there is some crank case pressure problem forcing the oil out, but all valvers blow some oil up the breather.

pick your nose and stare at the few car parts vince has tied to the wall in reception? There's f-all to do in Southam, and it's in the middle of nowhere
-
seriously, for that price I'd much rather buy a recon/exchange item, that one (apart from being a crappy pic) could be close to being siezed up itself, they're not that much more exchange from GSF etc. my local scrappy charges about 10 quid for a S/H caliper!
-
after about 1995 the mk3 went to 288 disks on the front, quite different looking ATE calipers too, don't get mixed up with those. AFAIK the rear disks are all the same mk3 GTI, 16v GTI and VR6, and probably GL's etc with rear disks (if any had them???) mk3 rear calipers have a slightly different mechanism for the handbrake realease spring that's all, but it works just the same and with the same hand brake cables, they are slightly more robust than the mk2 GTI style ones with the external spring.

nope it shouldn't have oil in it, but if you have an excessive amount of oil vapour being blown up the crankcase breather system into the airbox it may well collect in there. It's the overrun cut off valve btw. orcov.jpg[/attachment:2rstgflc]
