  1. In an attempt to get my car to finally sit properly on Eibach springs I've aquired a pair of these. What other jobs have people got for the long weekend?

    koni and H&Rs

I thought I was getting TA's for the back  but those turned up, bit cheaper tho. Not only that but the fronts turned up as inserts only and my car had aftermarket legs on it :x had to pick up a pair of old G60 struts to make up my suspension. Love the ride on Koni's, won't go back to anything else, you do get what you pay for with dampers. I presume you have to take the speaker pods out to get at the adjusters on the rears?

there's an adjustable koni sport (yellow) with only 3 spring plate positions and is only adjustable off the car (the push and turn variety), but AFAIK it's no different to the top adjustable version otherwise. On Eibach springs the 3 groove variety definately needs the top groove or the nose is too high. David.
  4. yep vw part no 191 121 101AC (top), same for all 16v cars (it's also the part for a golf mk2 16v), the bottom rad hose is the same too (191121051E), it's the 3 way hose to the heat exchanger, head and pump that is different from the early KR engines and the water pipe to expansion tank hose. David.

    Roof Trim

Don't buy the side trim new, everyone seems to be removing theirs :)
  6. seems fine to me, it's an expansion tank after all, if the pressure was too high or the system over-full the valve in the tank will release water.
  7. yep it's very confusing, in the end I went for the inserts for the standard legs for my 1990 16v, 8641-1198 Sport, you need to fill the leg with anti-freeze after removing the original factory insert and it's oil, but make sure you don't already have all in one aftermarket struts as you cannot put the koni inserts into these, only the factory struts. David.

push em right down and twist to set the valving, does that make sense? it's on the destructions
  9. pretty sure there's some window regulators on e-bay at the moment.
  10. this can be overcome by grinding the little lugs away under the arm which it bottoms out on at certain places in the sweep,, i think that coupled with some of these new trick blades should solve the problem rather cheaply  yeah, but to be fair that doesn't make the springs any stronger.
  11. Link fixed! Don't know what happened there... be interesting to see if the standard C arms with the aero blades and the adaptor pieces don't hold water like the lupo arms, annoying as each stroke of the screen downwards sprays a bit of water on the screen with the lupo ones, the water seems to gather in the block type connector and only get blown out by the wind on the downward stroke :x
  12. yep, similar aim to the Corrado 2L 8v, try to shift a few more units at a lower price before the production comes to an end.
  13. Do you know if the Honda engines have variable valve lift?, I thought it was only the BMW's that had that and so no throttle flaps. Only problem I can see with the VTECs is the manual adjustment of valvegear which is apparently quite a hefty cost that a lot of owners were originally unaware of, especially on otherwise cheap cars like the Jazz. David.
  14. yep, but the diesel engine has had little development in the past 100 years compared to petrol and look at the advancement in just the last 15 years since R&D focussed more on the diesel. Given the very efficient nature of the diesel engine (look how little heat the VW diesel engines generate) I think there's a whole lot more to come from the diesel in the coming years.
  15. That'd sound great, an oil burner constantly rattling at 3000 revs all the way down the road, it was bad enough when my old neighbour had his DAF with the CVT, you could never tell if he was mowing his lawn or taking a trip out to the shops  Ford did a CVT in the fiesta recently, dunno what happened to that, I guess technology must have moved on a bit.
  16. someone asked me about preventative care for this yesterday, it's worth doing as they can sieze up as they get old. spoiler mech cleaning how to guide David.
  17. pull the connectors off the oil pressure switches and you'll soon see :)
  18. a '91 valver may not have door speakers at all, if your dash speakers are mid-range and not small tweeters then you still have the basic 16v setup, nothing in the doors.
  19. old passat rear door ones are often hardly worn out, same bit, 357 837 034
  20. Polo????....Golf???? Golf is from the Gulf Stream Polo... dunno, but it didn't start life as a VW at all, it was originally a cheap version of the Audi 50. to me, Golf is a sport whereby you hit a small ball with a club. as for Polo......isn't that a mint?? What's a Sharan to you then?

  22. yep, early chrome ones are from 1980's passat GL5's, still yet to find one in a scrappy, audi chrome handles are a different design.
  23. the dash switches use filters and bulbs, I simply used some filters from some old audi switches to do these some needed a bit of super-glue to hold the filters in place, the roof and window switches need to have a red LED soldered in place of the green ones, everything can be prised apart and reassembled fairly easily, just take a bit of care. David.
