Cambridge, you'd be lucky to get a day's parking for £20  it's a seriously expensive place to live, buy, rent etc. and a lot of the property is pretty low standard too, how about a rented garage in Arbury Mic :) A nice place in a nice area with parking or a garage?, well I'm sure Mic will elaborate.

Welcome! be sure to have a good search around each of the forum sections, read, read, read :) but in general they're all old cars now so individual condition and records of work done is far the most important, G60 charger service is very important on that model and I'd suggest whatever you finally decide on, ask the owner if you can take it for an MOT before handing over the cash, could be a very worthwhile £50 spent and any genuine seller can't mind if you pay, it'll flag up any corrosion, suspension or emissions problems that could be costly for you to sort.

depends a bit on tyre make, personal preference and of course size, a bigger tyre generally needs less pressure, 4cyl cars vary depending on the engine, 8v is the lowest at 36psi others are around 37/38. Try what VW recommend and then adjust by a few psi until you find what you like, certainly needs less at the back than the front as we all rarely have much in the back or boot of a C. On the 4 cyl cars on 195-50-15's I find 36/33 to my liking, perhaps a bit more for a long M-way journey, and a bit less in winter.

great, cheers, I think there's a couple of different suffixes on the 1H0 parts, but AFAIK they all do what I need on the non-sunroof 8v :) just as long as it's not an early pre 92 car as they have a different electrical connector. Very tempted by the engine and box, might give you a buzz when I'm back from hols in a few weeks if you haven't got rid of it by then, ta, David.

yeah, I've done both cars rear quarters with stick on panel deadening and felt and it makes a big difference, rear bench really benefits if you have a noisy exhaust too, I need a bit more behind the dash now (up high on the bulkhead) but the run to work this morning shows it's a lot better, only downside is more wind noise is noticable now the road noise is lower

you've really got me confused about this clutch thing, I bought a complete sachs for the 02A cable box (50 quid or so with trade discount) and that's a complete kit, including release bearing. I can't see you won't have everything if you are buying a 3 piece 020 kit ??? -

just get a whole clutch kit, no point in just getting the friction disc -
Gave the old girl a good clean inside and out today and couldn't resist finding some more jobs to do while the weather was nice. Front and rear seats out, all carpets up and half a ton of underlay/soundproofing added to the driver and passenger footwells, rear footwells, under rear seat and in the boot, should quiet things down a bit on the motorway, already done stick-on sound deadening inside the front doors rear panels and on other bare metal under the floors, given the 8v engine plus the standard exhaust and suspension, this should be one quiet Corrado :) In the process I noticed the footrest was bust at the top, so with a small bodge using a bent kitchen cupboard securing bracket all was made well. looking clean and tidy inside cutting out soundproofing for boot floor, under the carpet. and lastly, anyone know what this is? two relays and two 30A fuses behind the glove box  oh, one other thing, the CL pump is goosed, cheers for the swap and test Jim :)

it's a golf mk2 16v, corrado 1.8 or 2.0L 16v or passat (88-93) 1.8 or 2L 16v specific part 8v alternators have a different body/mounting, golf 3 16v or passat after 1993 have different alts too.

brakes, you need to take the pads out and check everything is free, pads, caliper piston movement. Possible the pads got contaminated by cv grease sprayed about and onto the disks, might need to replace them.
-
with no lambda feedback I'd have thought it would be runnning a limp home map, that might explain the varied performance, not good though, the old CAT will be suffering.

my bet is on the hall sender breaking down, replacement dizzy needed or change hall sender in your current one (need to press out pin on dizzy shaft)

uprated loom on my old jetta made a world of difference, that with 80/100W bulbs :) all 80's VW's had rubbish lights  -
have you had this car on VAG-COM or similar? really need to do some diagnostics, check out any fault codes and see what the ECU is actually receiving signal-wise from each sensor. G60 is Digifant isn't it? If it's anything like my 8v 2L was, then throttle pos sensor and distributor setting were pretty important in good running

passat striker pin or whatever you call it (the downward pointing plastic tipped lever bit on the inside of the door on the back of the lock barrel) is shorter on the passat than corrado handle, I found you had to adjust the screw out plastic end as far as it would go to work the release lever when we fitted a passat handle and matching side lock to a friend's car. Could be this.

shouldn't be too bad, only need to drop the subframe a little if you want to replace the little bush brackets too IIRC, I did the 8v last autumn, 16v ones a few years back, same on VR AFAIK like the mk4, it helps to have a G clamp or similar to clamp the bush bracket down to get the bolt in.

yeah, pump is the same, as you probably know the stat is upside down so it's far easier to fit a new stat to a pump off the car then refit the pump with the stat and elbow already in place. should get 50 deg on oil within a mile and 2 mins of driving, 15 mins and it should all be fully up to temp at 90 odd degrees. I actually enjoyed doing the cambelt on the 8v Corrado, couple of plastic shields in the way that are not usually on the golf, only thing to remember on the 8v is that the intermediate pulley times the dizzy, so a split belt trick is not a bad idea :) -
:shocked!:WTF? was he just happy to get more than 'we buy any car' quoted him
