  1. re signature - totally agree :-) you have to much free time Geroid haha
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. Ill have to get a seam welded around the ends of the pipe so. And Ill give Dave a buzz some time about the IC to TB pipe. The pipe Gary has made up Geroid is made up of stainless and a cut out section of the original pipe with the CO fitting and its joined together with samco. It does the job but looks a bit shit and a complete stainless pipe would look a lot nicer going across the engine bay. I imagine one complete pipe is more flow efficient then a pipe with several joins and also eliminates any chances of boost leaks.
  3. Cheers guys. @ Leon, Im looking to get a new pipe made up from the intercooler linking up to the TB. Any suggestions were I can get this done. Its not a complicated piece, it just needs a fitting for the CO pot to sit in.
  4. Well I have being using both. A screw driver to take up the slack then a spanner to tighten them up. I have managed to snap a couple of clips and round a few nuts in the process. I was just wondering if there are any clips available, specifically for boost pipes. But Ill definitely get some lips welded onto the ends of the pipes so the clips at least have something to grip instead of just popping off.
  5. Good point Geroid. There is no lip at either end of the boost pipes so thats a good explination as to why they are popping off. But I bought the intercooler off GaryC and he told me he never had any problems. Ill have to try and get something welded onto each end over the weekend. I think a session on the RR will be due soon too. Charger has just being rebuilt and ported and the car is really flying.
  6. Hi all, I have an ongoing problem since fitting my intercooler and custom boost pipes. The pipes pop off sometimes (normally after hard driving - espically on my last track day). I have tried doubling up on the jublie clips and it seemed to work well but again last night after a good run one of the pipes came away from the samco. It gets really annoying. Has anyone any good tips on securing thier hoses ? Anyone know were to source some havy duty clips ? Thanks Mark
  7. That sounds pretty awesome. Were is the water injected into the system ? Do you tap a hole into the TB ?
  8. Nice one Geroid. It looks tidy enough in the pics. Im sure if anyone is going to get it looking shiny and mint you are. Note the engine bay is a bit more cramped then the polo so getting your hands down to clean the chassis legs might be a bit of a pain ;-) And unless your planing on spending heaps of dosh on it then just enjoy driving it for the moment. As soon as I bought my FMIC the snowball started rolling and I dont like to think how much I have spent in the last while. P.S. Leather interiors are 10 a penny on ebay.de :-)
  9. Hey Geroid, congrats on the new car. the boot should lock / unlock with the central locking if you have manually left the boot unlocked with the key.
  10. All the engine mods were done long before the charger rebuild. The only change now is the extra porting John carried out (both the charger and RSR). It was meant to be a stage 4 before hand but the porting was not done to a great standard. Reading back through some old threads and it looks like I should check my thermo switch is working okay and the voltage drop is not too much cause the water temp gauge seems to be a little higher then normal. Is my understanding right that water is run through the OE oil cooler to keep the oil temp down ? So if your radiator is not working 100% it will have a knock on effect on the oil temp. Either way it looks like I will have to splash out and buy a Mocal. Thanks for the advise. This site is the biz :-)
  11. I spent the weekend running in my JMR refurb'd charger and not going about 3k rpm and was surprised to see my oil temp between 105-114c. I dont think it was this high when I first bought the car. I was thinking maybe a build up of sludge in oil cooler could be causing the higher temps and I should of really removed it while I was cleaning out my intercooler but now the bumper and charger are back in place I dont fancy going taking everything apart again. Have many people fitted external coolers to their G60s ?? Is there much work involved in it ?? Any one got any pics of a kit ?? And what about prices ??
  12. Do a search mate. 'Intercooler' or something like that. There are a lot of pictures of corrados with intercoolers being fitted. Came in handy when I was attemping to fit mine.

    Gearbox problems

Drop rmn a PM, his mate has a G60 box. http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28981
  14. One of them is ripped on my Corrado and I need to get it sorted. Has anyone any tips on replacing these. Is it a case of removing the rack from the car ??? I hope not
  15. Yes, is it really recommended to use a catch tank ? I just have a small air filter fitted to the oil breather and Im not sure if this is a good idea ? How does the catch tank work (apart from the obvious - collecting oil vapour) ?
  16. There is a certain amount of oil in the boost tubes but noting I think is too much. Ill get the flexipipe just to re-route the blow off. The car goes very well so I dont think I need the charger rebuilt just yet and I estimate another 5-7k before it needs to be done. Thats going by the receipt for the last service. P.s. Can anyone recommend a place were I can get a boost gauge similar to the VDO gauges with the black face and green backlight and it dosent say 'turbo' ????
  17. Thanks all. Swapped the plugs around with the car up to temp and the gauge is working. Ill replace the sensors next time Im getting bits for the car. 8)
  18. Hi guys, I have fitted a nice big front mount intercooler with custom pipework which does away with the boost return pipe. The car goes very well with the intercooler and the noise is a nice touch but latley Im starting to notice some smoke coming from behind the engine around by the manifold. My thoughts are that oil vapour is being dumped from the throttle body and landing on the hot manifold and burning off. Has anybody else encountered this problem when they have removed the boost return pipe ??? Is it a sign that my charger is letting too much oil through the system ??? Any advise would be great Mark
  19. Hi all, My car has being sitting for about 3 weeks and while dirving it today I noticed the water temp gauge was not reading at all. The car is full of coolant, the temp warning light was not flashing and the pipes to the rad appear to be running hot water. Is it just a case the sender is at fault ? I can test it if someone knows were I can find it ? Thx Mark
  20. Cheers for the advise mate (and in the other thread :-) ) Ill have to get the jack out :-)
  21. Hey all, There must be a bush or something worn on my gear shift. I still have to push the stick down to engage reverse but if I push the stick to the left with a little effort it will slip into reverse. Its annoying when changing from 1st to 2nd and it gets caught. I cant see anything worn but it must be a problem for some other corrado's. I've sorted this on mk2 Golf's before but not on a cable shift. Anyone got any tips ?? Mark

    G60 poor MPG

Lately my G60 has become very heavy on fuel. I used to manage 200 miles from a full tank (mine is the smaller tank - 40 litre I think). It has 68mm pully fitted stage 4 charger and chip. The car goes like stink and performance feels great. But over the last month Im only seeing about 120 -130 miles to a tank. I can get 26 - 27 mpg when cruising but when stopped in traffic the reading drops and Im left looking at 17 mpg which is a bit strange. Now the idle dosent like to drop down to normal when pulling up at lights or changing gears. The revs will drop down fine and then when it gets to 2k rpm it drops slower and idles just over 1k. It might be related to the MPG but the fuel consumption has being bad long before the idle issue. I think Ill book it in to get checked on a rolling road and get some BHp and torque figures as well. Is there anything I can check myself before hand. how do I open and close the ISV valve to clean with carb cleaner ? All vacum hoses appear intacted. Any advise would be great 8)
  23. I have the corrado wheels on the Golf now. Looks quiet well. They suit the Golf more then the Corrado IMO. The Golf is up for sale but not with the splits. Decided to keep wheels and let my brother have them for his mk3. They cost me a lot of money to get them looking how they are now and you wont come across another set to handy so Ill keep them in the family.
  24. So can anyone tell me if te VR6 pump will suiy my G60 ? @ kongo, did u notice a drop in MPG when the pump started to act up. Mine is using a lot of petrol these days.
  25. I always thought the standard G60 wheels (on Geo's Golf) are called RA's. The mk2 16v standard issue were RZ and not enough clearance for the G60 brakes and the 2 piece split rims are the RM edition and optional extras as on my 16v from factory. And the 3 peice split is the RS but I think these wheels are standard BMW issue and I dont think VW gave this option. I paid 660 euro for a fully refurbished set of RMs with chrome rims and freshly painted centers on ebay.de. They look stunning on the corrado. And just to show off I stripped the standard set of RMs on the Golf and gave them some nice chrome rims bolts and powder coated canters. The best for wheel for any VW if you ask me . A set going onto my brothers mk3 TDi for his crimbo box aswell. All the BBS wheels above are 15" * 6.5 afaik but the RMs can be fitted with wider rims to become anything from 7 to 10" and I have even seen 13" sets on ebay. There is a long thread on VW vortex with lots of pics. Just goggle for ' BBS thread'. And search Ebay.de cause there are lots of sets for sale at good prices there. Even sets of splts that need a refurbish can go for very little money and for the bitof work it takes stripping them and refurbishing its well worth it when you see them on the car.
