You will need to be driving. 3rd of 4th gear will give the best readings. So try find a nice quiet straight road :-)
-
This is what you should be checking your boost readings against. Thinks its originaly from vwvortex. Are you runing the standard IC. With a bigger IC the boost readings will dropa little. EURO Hg(#'s of boost/vacuum) Comments 200 -23.7 400 -17.8 600 -11.9 800 -5.9 1000 0 (Atmosphere- ala no boost, charger is bypassed) 1200 2.9 psi (Your charger is dead or big boost leak) 1400 5.8 psi (Your charger is about dead or big boost leak) 1600 8.7 psi (Your charger needs new apex strips or big boost leak) 1800 11.6 psi (Great for stock pulley, Probably needs new apex strips if 68mm pulley) 2000 14.5 psi (Great for 68mm pulley on stock charger) 2200 17.4 psi (Great for 68mm pulley on heavily ported charger, hold on to your ass fast!!)

Thats a quite good boost reading you have there. They say lower then 1500 your looking at a rebuild. If you do a search for the crank pully you will find a few threads about the bolt sheering, timing getting knocked out and the result being the crank pully has come loose and the key is worn out meaning a new crank needed i.e. bottom end stripped and new crank fitted. For piece of mind it well worth replacing this bolt.

@ strange one. Costs me the guts of 800 euro mate. But that included lots of porting and flowing and a new oil feed pipe plus carrige back. 26 quid for the pipe but well worth it cause the original ones are know to fail meaning no lubrication to the charger.
-
Removing the headlight and the airbox will also give better access. When re-fitting dont go crazy on re-tightening. You dont want to damage any of the threads. Search for 'charger' AND 'removal' will turn up some usful info.

Yeah cant go wrong with Otto. Have got a few bits of them in the past and cant complain. There is a handy guide on here to taking the charger off. Its straightforward enough and no real major headaches involved. Just a good soaking of WD-40 before and you will be alright.

Id deffo consider it if I was doing that kinda trip. And I wouldn't hear the other half complaining telling me to slow down. Two birds with one stone haha.

JMR - what can I say, great service. Sent me the goods even before recieving my Bank Draft. G60Dan - great got the bits just need to pick em up Zarmann - yeah got the mirrors great - thanks (not sure I like em thou - not that thats your problem) Bannaman - good feedback and easy payment (paypal). Lousy Irish postal service on strike at the moment so who knows when it will arrive. Have one nomination for bad salesman but Ill keep that to myself. Nobody else has no other complaints about him.

I think you'll be surprised with the DHL price. I was anyway. 46euro with an Post and that was insured. But who knows when the shower will go back to work. I have a few bits in the post office waiting to be picked up but Im not going out of my way to go down to them to find out they are closed. And if the postman is reading I promise a big tip for Christmas :-)

That looks like a nice C. Have seen plenty of bashed up mk2 GTI over there but no corrados yet. What part you in ? If things work out how I plan I would venture up to germany and pick up a nice G60 just like you have done.
-
Yeah cost me €40 to ship my charger over to JMR. John worked on the charger over the weekend including Saturday night and had it in the post to me first thing Monday morning. And with the extra porting work John carried out on the charger the car really pulls well. Give John a ring and explain the situation. He will have your charger serviced and ship back to in no time.
-
Yeah Ill second the Tyvek one. Although it does look a bit strange in silver. Im sure the neighbours think Im obsessed. Was a bit stormy here the last while and the C was kept lovely and dry.
-
You really think it could be that serious that I could damage the engine ? I've had the car for over a year now and never heard it pink even under full load.
-
Yeah I started a thread in the engine forum Steve. The intercooler was bought off a guy with a tuned G60 (230 brake or so) and Im sure he knew what he was doing when he got the pipes made up.
-
Is there not a knock sensor on the G60 that prevents pinking ?

Hey, My car has an AMD chip that was fitted back in 1997. Im wondering is it a good idea to upgrade the chip to say an SNS5.5 ?? What kind of benifit will I see ? Does the car have to be mapped or will the chip alone be fine if I just plug it in ? Will the my engine spec be suitable for an off the shelf chip cause here in Dublin its impossible to find someone to do a re-map. Cheers Mark

Hi all, Take a look at the pic of my engine bay below. Is it a good idea to have the ISV re-routed back into the boost tube to the TB ? This is how the boost tubes were setup when I bought them ? Is there any benifit to haveing the ISV breathing to the atmosphere ? The car runs fine like this and idles perfect.

A warm up and cool down lap are a very good idea. Have had my G60 out a couple of times and the oil temp can get very high and I would tend to back off. IMO raod cars are not really great for using on the track. A dedicated track car is really the only way to go if your a complete track day nut. But a track day is not a race. Drive it and enjoy it. Try to have some sympathy for the car and dont over do it. From what I have seen only people who drive over there limits and the car limits end the day on a bad note. Have fun :-)

Yeah Im a big fan of the BBS. Had a set on my old Golf and stripped them and fitted chrome rims too. Really set the car off a treat. Were abouts in Spain are you from ? Any C's around your way ?

@ bluevr6rado - The engine was pretty clean when I got it but I sprayed some AutoGlym Engine cleaner on it and hosed it off and it came up even better. A bit of tyre spray on the rubbers and it gives it a nice apperance. The rocker cover was re-painted by the previous owner aswell as the red HT leads. @stevemac - not really sure what the benifits are. The FMIC and pipes are off another 'rado and thats how the guy had it setup. I know its more common to just have some sort of filter on the ISV and Ill probably start a thread asking about it. Obviousaly if its more effient to have it vented to atmosphere then I would prefer to have it like that. But there is no noticable problem having this way. Car runs fine, makes great boost, and it idles perfect. JMR did a great job on the charger and flowing the RSR and the car drives lovely and smooth. I think it might benifit from an SNS chip. Its something Im going to look into.

Black mate. Yeah its a great car. Had a few small teething problems with it but it runs great now. Real head turner aswell.

Finally some pics of my C. Bought the car with 96k on the clock and it now shows 102k. Bought it Southampton and brought back to Dublin. I dont drive it too much and its a second car. The odd weekend Ill take it for a blast to blow off the cobwebs. - JMR Stage 4 charger and RSR outlet - boost return removed - FMIC - AMD chip - 68mm pully - Koni Dampers with original springs - BBS RM's with chrome rims - Grey leather interior - New G60 Badges from and rear (old ones were colour coded and grill one missing) - Has a FSH up till I bought it and a stack or receipts and documents for work carried out. - 3 previous owners and last owner 9 years. - Replaced and serviced usual stuff - brakes, braided lines, fluids, engine mounts, sensors etc - Want to fit an exhaust system when I get motivated enough. De-cat sitting in the shed. - Heated seat loom waiting to be fitted - Am thinking of getting an SNS 5.5 cause chip was fitted back in 1997 and I imagine it could do with update - anybody any feedback about a chip ??? Thats about all I can think of now Edit - couple of pics the day I sold my 16v :-(

Id say a Polo is scary at those speeds. On the other hand the corrado feels well planted at 140. Slightly more aerodynamic then the polo ;-)

Golf G60 Intercooler - Installation is finished!
markmcie replied to Shilakadaddy's topic in Engine Bay
Although I dont have a Golf or Rallye IC my IC is mounted in front of the rad. While fitting I was concerned it would lead to higher water temps cause its blocking air flow to the rad but in reality everything is normal. I suppose with the bigger IC engine temps are lower then normal so water temps wont rise as a result of less air flow. Looking to get an oil cooler soon and reduce temps even further. -
post on http://www.vage.ie Lads in Ireland are pretty keen on G60's at the moment and your one looks like a very nice example. Surprised it hasn't sold TBH
