managed to change the timing belt and water pump today new water pump in! new idler bearing new cambelt tensioner used an m5 bolt with a large washer to compress the old tensioner and stuck a split pin throught the hole to keep it down whilst i put the new tensioner in before i took the belt off i made sure the timing marks lined up, One on the cam sprocket and cam cover and the other on the crank pully and the sheild behind it. I then made a few marks with tipex on the belt and sprockets. transfered the marks onto the new belt, double checking the correct amount of teeth between each mark. all done freshly sprayed timing belt cover and a couple pics of it back together as for the water pump, i initially wasnt going to change it as the engine has only done 35k , glad i did now! the impellor was starting to crack more updates soon!

Randomjords G60! Project 'Do Not Bankrupt Myself'

jmr is very reputable! had my charger done by them and its alllllllllllll gooooooooooooood. The oil in the pipes could be oil being spat out of the engine ( breather pipe) i had that but now i have a catch tank for the breather and blocked the boost return off at the charger -
thanx! tiny update, starting to reassemble, still got the timing bet to do (weekend hopefully)

cant remember if rados have it but when i had my mk1 cabbie l the electrics went mental nd i turned out to be a burnt out x-relief relay

sorry for the delay, when i turn my iginition off the led stays off until i take the key out or open a door. it goes orange then green like you said -

Right got the gearbox its an o2j (enj) so i think thats a golf mk4 gti box, been slowly cleaning that Ive also been dismantling my red corrado ready for the engine to be sold tommorow so i had the driveshafts out back with the gearbox.Ive heard that most of the o2j boxes have 108mm driveshaft flanges so i was worried id have to source a set of 100mm flanges to match my shafts, however i took the driveshaft i got off the 16v and it fitted perfect to the o2j gearbox.... what a touch! im happy. heres a pic

gathered a few more bits, the plan is to get as many parts i need before even thinking of taking the current engine out. Got a nice selection of stainless nuts, bolts and washers to replace the old toot New inlet, throttle body and oil filter housing gaskets and dipstick tube Genuine timing belt kit new water pump, (doesnt look it but the impellor is metal - Thanks to reuben at tuning works for sourcing that!) 5 rolls of self amalgamating tape to sort my entire car loom out ( in good time!) Getting there slowly Gotta pick up an o2j gearbox tommorow, and im currently in the process of obtaining a gear selector, cables an shift tower of an audi a3 1.8t

i have an ai606 as it goes, shall check later and post back up ( Strange thing is i bought the toad alarm for mine thinking this was to blame for my non start!) -
right ive sourced an o2j box for my 1.8t engine. Really dont want to use the o2a shifter, cables and selector so which car can i pinch all these bits from? i know the mk4 gtis, and a3's etc will have it but they dont really crop up in my nearest scrappy.Ive heard of some diesels using an o2j box, would the bits i need be the same? does anybody know what other cars i can pinch them off? Also do i need different driveshaft flanges?

works exactly the same way as the headlight relay. It probably would work just make sure the relay is beefy enough to handle the current drawn by the starter. think mine was rated either 30 or 40 amps (got it off ebay for a few quid) i also thought this problem was my alarm. which i replaced with a toad and still had the same thing happen! EDIT: have been using the relay for nearly 6 months now and all is good still -

could be your starter on is way out i had the same problem and now its fixed read my solution below http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewto ... =1&t=73566 -
More bits painted up, sorry its boring i know, just waiting for the monies to buy a timing belt kit for it. ive also ordered some new stainless bolts to replace the crusty originals oil filter housing oil cooler lower cambelt cover upper cambelt cover these were all in red originally but this is not the colour scheme i want
-
sweet! cheers for the info mate
-
yea, thats exactly what im planning on doing. Im going to go for the diy kit as im confident with doing the wiring. Did you need to buy any extra connectors? At the moment im just cleaning up the engine and changing parts to save any bother in the future. Next items i want to change are the cambelt and tensioner. Ive got another question also, have you changed the water pump on yours? ive heard stories about the plastic impellor coming away from its shaft causing the engine to overheat. I read that you can get a water pump with a metal impellor but have also heard things about them jamming up causing the cambelt to snap! Im kind of undecided on what to get.
-
sounds good! did you use the qpeng kit? as i know they use mbe ecus. Any troubles installing that?
-
thats quite handy actually. I see you have two breather filters, one from the cam cover. Is the other one coming off the pipework from the top of the oil filter housing?
-
Lucky git! Thanks for the part numbers - your a star (i may ask you for some more via pm at some point if thats kool?) Keep up the good work man!
-
you have got some serious skills there lad! Your vw dealer must love you! Can you do me a favour? have you got part numbers for the inlet manifold gasket and the oil filter housing gasket ( the red one in the pic)
-
got a few more pics been doing some more digging and found out that it uses a pcv valve between the oilfilter housing breather, the cam cover breather and the inlet manifold. You can see it better in the 2nd pic (like a t piece) I think im going to just vent mine to a catch tank , and block off the nipple at the inlet
-
could i just put a large hose on it feeding to a catch tank? think i got another pic which ill dig out later
-
right ive been looking at my engine today and im now baffled see pic (not my engine) now i havent got this pipe, think the guy i got it off forgot to give it to me so i need to chase him up on that. What i want to kno is what this pipe is. Is it a breather of some sort? If so where does it go? if anyone has any diagrams that would be great
-
yea i masked and painted the lights, the crappy chrome finish wasnt doing it for me! with the black it makes it look a bit more factory! cheers for that pic 20vtvw i dont have the buldge you have on your inlet but underneath there are two holes that i can bolt a bracket up to.
-
cheers for the comments! do you have a pic of the bracket? i use acid 8 etch primer on all the metal parts then smooth hammerite silver on the inlet and plasticote on the white parts
