  1. Right seeing as the buyer of my engine didnt come today i thought i start striping some bits off the 1.8t to clean up and paint took the alternator/power steering bracket off, a pulley, the inlet manifold an the cam cover off.here they are spent ages sanding down the brackets and they were degreased and etch primed used paint stripper on the cam cover, really wierd watching the paint bubble up :D one of it degreased And ready for paint! Painted! I know white isnt the most engine bay friendly colour but i love it so ner :lol: Also took the air con pump and secondary air blower thing off as i wont be using them (for sale if anyone needs)
  2. kool! ill be keeping my eye on this. At some point will you be able to take a pic of the way your coolant hoses go? Mine were just given to me in a box so i dont know what goes where! Thanks for the pm by the way, ill have a look into that. Not decided yet. thing is i dont have a dbw pedal and i cant be arsed to source and put one in so qpeng with a cable throttle may be a bit easier. Bet your glad you kept the car rather than breaking it!
  3. i suppose im halfway there lol got the engine sitting in my garage, its an aum and im hoping for around 230 bhp - going to be using qpengs management kit. What ecu and gearbox are you running? The only thing i would of done was have the bay painted whilst the engine was out but top job ! was a quick turn around. Whats it like compared to the g60?

  5. ive aquired a 1.8t (aum) and im currently stripping bits off to clean/paint etc oil was dripping from the where the oil filter housing mounts to the block is there meant to be a gasket here? or some kind of seal? there wasnt one when i took it off. If there is does anyone have the part number? cheers wayne
  6. looks like im going to have to source a mk3 16v gearbox, dont fancy cutting up the bottom of the car lol. or may even get my g60 box rebuilt. got the engine today so me happy :D
  7. Managed to get me a 1.8t engine from a seat cupra s, so im pretty chuffed just need to source a few other bits before that can go in. 8)
  8. befor buying an ecu id try a new ecu relay mate. Get a genuine vw one should be around a tenner

    Sunroof!

    Would be quite a bit of work. It would be very hard to weld a panel in there without distorting the metal.Then obviously your whole roof would need filling and painting. After that you would have to source a non-sunroof headlining which wont be easy. Id say take some time out and repairthe sunroof or take the opportunity to upgrade to a passat moonroof
  10. fingers crossed ill be picking up a 20vt engine at the weekend. It will be going into my g60 at some point . Would like to know which gearbox would be best suited for it? Dont think my g60 box will be up to the job as its a bit crunchy and id like to be able to get to 60 in second. Any ideas guys?
  11. i like that! rear lights ruin it though,too many wierd shapes going on inside the lenses. The gld wheels really compliment the red paint too.What is it at the moment? 16v? g60?
  12. got rid of my valves just now! i too had the fatest air lock, the amount of bubbles i could see coming out of the expansion tank wasnt even funny. I Dont have to wear hat and gloves in the rado anymore - happy days!

  15. ive been thinking about converting my g60 to 20vt for some time and i have a few questions. I know it will be easier to find the engine on its own rather than with clocks, ecu, immobilisers and all that gubbins. So ive been on qpengs website and they do an ecu kit already mapped for various different engine codes. I want to know if you had any problems during your installation or anything i should look out for. Im not necessarily after monster power (would be nice) but i do want a newer engine.It seems to look very simple to put together on their site - just after advice so i can go into this conversion with a little insight unlike my last engine swap! I would use my old megasquirt kit but i really cannot be arsed to go through all that again (plus its destined to go into my mk1)

  17. thats good, i was wondering why it had audi tt and a3 stamped on it. mine has the date 30/06/08 stamped on the box so thats all good
  18. tell me about it! The engine itself runs nice n hot, would be nice to have some of that heat in my cabin ffs! Im seriously considering going 20vt this summer as i cant be dealing with old technology anymore :norty:
  19. welll i still havent taken the valves out of mine yet, was going to do it at the weekend. On my trip from croydon to kingston for work my heating started to work - it was only luke warm though, then it went kind of hot ( i say kind of hot as my van gets way hotter!) then it went back to luke warm again so im baffled

  21. Tensioner isnt to hard of a job to be honest,if your not replacing the belt make sure it stays on its teeth so the timing isnt knocked out. I dont live near halfords although i know of the car your talking about! im up near lombard roundabout. Give us a shout if you need some help. What engine are you planning to swap in? Im thinking 20vt for mine at some point
  22. yea i think im going to do the same, kinda pissed cos i have just put new silicone hoses on which had to be cut to accomodate these stupid valves.Out they comne tommorow. Dont know if its worth me putting that white restrictor in though
  23. got the matrix done in the freezing cold, got in the car turned it on and let her warm up. i still have cold air - pissed off is an understatement. I left the bypass valves in so i take it they are bolloxed?
  24. hmm interesting why only the vr6?come to think of it i read somewhere that matrices on vr6's blew more often than on other models.I plan to fit it over the weekend, was thinking of doing away with the bypass valves ( wait dont moan at me yet lol) as ive heard that newer matrices are manufactured better. So do i just put this restrictor into the supply pipe to the matrix and then do away with the bypass valves? :shrug: Anyone?
  25. doesnt sound good, i cant think of anything else but the tensioner.Also try and have a look down near the bottom end of the belt with a light to see if anything has dropped down there, Somebody on edition 38 installed a 20vt in his car and the belt snapped - apon closer inspection there was a bolt lodged down at the bottom of the cambelt casing and it caught the belt and eventually wore through it. I too also know what its like to be towed by a van - not a nice experience! also where abouts in croydon are you? im a croydon lad myself
