  1. Gave the element a gentle clean with a kitchen towel and a fair bit of muck came off. Swapped the filter over for a un oiled k&n I had knocking about for some 3.0 audi I think. Lesser of two evils. Put it back on the car, and it's driving as it should. No miss fire, pulls great, idle is sticking from time to time and it cut out like it did a few weeks ago, but I put that down to the idle control valve needs cleaning. We will see how it is in the morning, only time will tell if it's sorted it or not
  2. That's the state of inside of my afm at the moment. Just took it off and then realised I have no contact cleaner so will have to pick some up tommrow. Also noticed the seal is damaged and lifted on the sensor housing. Wondering if I have forced water into the housing itself. The car had had a k&n fitted when I bought the car and I'm still using it now. Air boxes are difficult and expensive to source, but open air filters have a tendency to kill afm. So wondering if this may be a contribution to it
  3. Had a quick look At work. Couldn't see any arcing on the coilpack, so removed the leads gave them a wipe down. Unplugged the maf and idled fine for around 10-15 secs then revs dropped and cut out. Drove it back home and miss firing as bad as ever under load. Pulled over unplugged the maf and drove back home. No miss fire pulled fine only issue being coming to a stop the revs would drop and cut out. It was doing this occasionally a few weeks back, so I assumed it was the idle control valve would need cleaning. So I. Guessing my maf is goosed. Anyone successfully repaired or cleaned one.
  4. Playing with the new jet wash at my d girls house and thought I would blast off some much from around the bay. Been a bit keen and I have got water into the electrics. Got a miss fire now. Haven't had time to investigate. Just quickly popped of leads and dried them. Also sprayed a wd40 around the coil pack. Sometimes it's great and runs sweet others is missing like a good un. My money is coil pack is cracked somewhere. What do you guys reckon
  5. There was a black leather interior on eBay just sold. Bit ropey the seats but in the back ground the door cards were fitted with the door pods. Description said the cards wasn't included so never bothered bidding.
  6. Spotted another blue corrado, with black rims just off the queslett road sutton coldfeild way. I was in my corrrado. Never seen one for ages now I have one, I seem to spot loads lol
  7. What was the polo like? This was my Astra we did
  8. Interested in the 288mm brakes and carriers
  9. Me and my mate built a " rat car" back in 2007 I think and was front cover of fast car. Unofficially won the chairmans cup at Vboa billing and nominated in retro rides awards. We did it to show back then that building cars was ment to be fun, not about how much more you spent than the next guy ect ect. It can be a good laugh. I like some parts of the corrado but the rat look has now defiantly turned towards twat look
  10. Been a while since I ran them. The first set were rotiforms Mia staggered 9 and 10s with a m3 offset of 23 I think the I had I think 215/35/19 on the 9s and 225/35/19 on the 10s. It was the same setup on the x5 rims used 20mm spacers up front to clear the coilovers and 10mm on the back. I had ap racing coilovers with the helper springs removed. Prop shaft donut is prone to go. You'll here a thud when pulling off sharp. Front wish bones need to be replaced as ball joints go and bushes. This used to grieve me to do as you had to buy complete units and pattern parts were about £200 a side ( could be wrong it's been a few years) when all that would need replacing is a £5 ball joint and some bushes. Mine was really straight and rust free, but e46 do suffer with rust. parts can be expensive but they are great cars. Wouldn't mind another, but it would have to be a m3,
  11. Spotted a standard dark blue vr6 heading into Banbury this morning. I automatically flashed but then realised I was driving the lorry lol
  12. Nice motor the 330. Mine was great on fuel I thought. Just got ****ed off forever changing bushes on it. Wishbone bushes, prop shaft bushes ect. And the fact it was a night mare getting my new born daughter in it, in her child seat. But with the resonator removed it sounded and drove superb. Enjoy ownership.
  13. The bore issues I wasn't aware with the vr6. And agreed with the head gaskets ect as they are perishable, especially with the contact with, heat, moisture, vibration ect. But, in that situation there would be warning that the head gasket was leaking and begins to fail. To rectify it before any damage to the head is caused. And valve seals, camshaft seals ect, is something we would replace out if course, while the heads off. I think a lot has to do with what route you plan to go with the car. If your after a original standard car, then condition and millage are important. More for the desirability of the car for resale and it's admired by the purists. Myself I wanted to modify the car, I plan to rebuild or change the engine in the future for either a r32 or turbo charge the vr6, not to deviate too far from the original body or trim, just personalise it towards my tastes ect. So for me a good complete Car is what I was looking for, that had a far chunk of the spec I wanted. Millage would be irrelavent in my case, as the items affected with millage would have been renewed or refurbished at some point. What I don't particularly like about going for low millage classics is maintaing the low millage by limiting how much you drive it. And where's the fun in that. And if your only doing a couple of thousand a year then you may as well save a couple of quid and by a higher millage car.
  14. I think when buying a car if this age, you go by condition and history rather than millage. A engine it's self shouldn't ever fail if properly maintained and regular oil changes. Engine oil should be doing its job of lubricating to minimise friction and dispersing heat. Wheel bearings, clutches and brakes, bushes wear but also get damaged with age and little use. Would rather have a well looked after hi millage car than something that has low millage because it stood on a driveway and not really thought about. A lot of issues with cars this age is the body and that will effect low millage cars the same as high. Mines done over 170k and have no issues with it really and is in far better condition than some low millage motors I went to view
  15. I'm up for swapping with anything interesting really. I have been tempted to fit some alfa gt 17"s they are similar design as a mercedes alphard. Well in a fashion. There was some for sale locally, but had just bought a set of 19" bbs ch wheels for my leon and the Mrs was getting a little annoyed at all the wheels I keep buying and selling. I had put up against the car the leon fr 17" to see how it looked. They are et 52 so adapter friendly. But they are going to look as bad on the corrado as they did on the leon. Ignore the ballon tyre, would have changed them to a 195/40/17 I like the audi wheels though. I think with a little spacing and some adjustments and I would prob get on with them more. Look great on a polo though
  16. Well I'm guessing progress with this car is going to be a lot slower than I thought. Unfortunately work, having young children and a mrs that works most weekends topped off with no work space is making it exceptionally difficult to get time to do the simplest of jobs. The vacuum pump for the central locking was constantly running when unlocking the car. Traced the air leak back to the pump it's self. The outer case of the pump had looked to have deformed it's shape ever so slightly. And if I pinched it together it sealed a treat. Bit of heat from a cigarette lighter and push the case back into sharp and it seals a treat and works as it should. Just need to find out why the passenger door don't unlock or lock via the central locking. But judging by the faculty that pretty much lock is opened by a different key I'm guessing that a non central locking handle has been fitted if that's possible? Strangely the passenger door handle does unlock the boot central locking when you unlock it with the key, so it could be something completely different. Also if anyone is interested I may be open to swaps on the audi a8 winters. So let me know what you have got.
  17. Used to have a neighbour that used to moan about the cars I had and especially my van I had. I had two cars and a van. Two cars fitted on the drive and the Luton van out the front infront of my house. One day I took the cars off the drive to clean up the front so parked them on the road, but had to pop out. So off I went, came back to find a neighbours son who didn't live there had stuck his **** box rover on my driveway. He came out ranting about my cars being parked on the street and that one was parked in his space on the street. So easy resolve was to stick my old knacker I had back in the drive so close that he couldn't get in. Put my van back in front of my drive so there was no way he could get off. Then proceeded to take the kids and mrs out for the day. And got back home about 11 that evening. Moved my van that was a large transit box van. Stuck it out side there house and left it there until I went back to work, so that was 3 days. And told them if they park in front or on my property again the van would become a permanent fixture outside there house. Never got any grief after. Sometimes you just have to stand your ground with your neighbours. Also been asked for my engine to idle quietly before. It was at around lunch time and I was in a lorry dropping a skip of at his neighbours house and literally just pulled up and came straight out ranting about it, explained I would only be 5 minutes, he wanted me to drop the skip off by hand with the engine off. He was a retired type and just a moaning sod. I dragged the job out as long as possible to give home something to moan about
  18. Cheers. I think I'm going to need all the luck I can get with it.
  19. The lm reps are for sale if your interested. They are made by a local firm called midland wheel supplies near southam. Jbw stands for john brown wheels, they make a lot of reps for the air cooled and mini scene
  20. Thought I had better start some sort of build thread up. Anyway been hankering for a project for some time, and was looking for a 60's beetle or a Mercedes w114/w115 or possibly a w123 at a push. But after much thought and the fact I have zero storage or work space to do any sort of restoration, It meant I had to buy a Rolling, road legal one and that sort of defeated the object and they demanded a premium for the pleasure. So having a look around like you do and remembering the cars from the 80's and 90's I have always fancied, I began to look at mk1/2 golfs and clippers and corrado's. After viewing a couple of vr6's and g60's. This one came up on eBay, and looked alright except for its bright orange wheels and high millage. I Messaged the seller and found that it had full extensive history for the car. The engine had been replaced with a rebuilt unit about 20k prior. Decent spec and plenty of spares came with it. So a road trip to bishops Auckland to collect it, and the car was in great condition. And the deal was done. This is the wording from the original add. Moonlight Blue metallic, 1994 Near full service history with a mountain of paperwork (2 folders full!), complete with both original keys and full closure alarm. MOT till March 2015, car is also taxed for viewing purposes only due to DVLA's brilliant new rules......... Spec electric windows, sunroof & spoiler (all working) tilt steering wheel Original factory heated leather Original motor replaced with lower mileage (140k), timing chains, water pump & clutch replaced during swap. Bought earlier this year completely stock and added the following; AP height adjustable coilover suspension BBS RX228 17 alloys (inc spare) with excellent Toyo Proxes 205 40 R17 Miltek stainless steel resonated exhaust & 6 branch manifold (cat retained). Red tinted rear lights Rear wiper removed Lupo front wiper upgrade. Headlight loom upgrade. All original parts including refurbished 15 inch Speedline alloys with good Falken tyres will be included in sale. Very original car, mechanically right with very good body work although as with most of these cars the front is a little stone chipped. Bad points; Small amount of surface rust on back panel and under spoiler Car park 'ding' on body line of drivers door, paint not broken so should be easily sorted by dentmaster repair. Small oil leak from after crank sensor replacement, again easily sorted. Not long after getting it home I removed the orange bbs rims. The dynorod look wasn't for me and put on the speedlines And it looked and drove great but it just wasn't the route I wanted to go with the car. So steeped away from going back to original. And sold them on. And fitted some jbw 8j et 25 wheels and lowered it some more. All though I wasn't a fan they were to only tie me over until I found something different. So while the search went on I swapped the vr6 steering wheel over for a momo wheel. Set about doing some repairs, such as door switches, refitting door cards with new clips, replacing the grab handle cover and putting a new stereo in ect. The car had all red lights that I did like, but the orange indicators of the oe lights look at home on the car IMO so they were changed. To these. Now I have a habit of picking wheels up ect. And I had come across a set of very rare audi a8 winter wheels. These are forged 16" 7j wheel that are different to the other versions that have a rounder hole in the face. I had a some spare 16" tyres knocking around so they got built up Also added some orange side repeaters. So this is as far as I have got so far. Plenty of jobs to do on the the car and lots to learn about the corrado but enjoying ownership so far. Any comments good or bad are appreciated.
  21. 5x100 16" jbw wheels and tyres Set of 4 jbw wheels and tyres. 5x100 8j et25 in excellent condition no kerbing or scuffs . Some tiny tiny stone chips of the lip I gather I picked up from the gritters. But it's being ultra picky as the rims are mint other wise. Tyres are a set of 4 matching toyo proxies 205/40/16 with a estimate of 6 mm of tread remains. One tyre has some scrubage from catching my wheel arch after running the car far to low but is still useable other wise.
