  1. That torque settings list is incomplete is it not? As far as I know the correct sequence is: Stage 1: 40Nm Stage 2: 60Nm Stage 3: 90deg Stage 4: 90deg

    The bottom end has a slightly smaller bore (80.6mm as opposed to 81mm) and larger head studs. The head is then also different to take the larger head studs, but a PG head can be modified to fit a rallye block. Henny did it a good while back, and I have also done it recently. @ g60bv, the charger bracket doesn't attach to the head it attaches to the block and the G60 alternator bracket bolts onto the head in the same place as on the normal 8v head.

    The G60 exhaust valves are sodium filled whereas the 8vs aren't. They can be easily changed over. Apart from that I think they are the same. (Assuming your engine is a PG corrado engine not a 1H rallye engine)
  6. I changed H&R for Gmax springs with Gmax shocks on a mk2 golf a while back and they swapped over no problem. It's only a stop gap until I get some decent shocks though, the Gmax suspension kits are rubbish IMO...

    Loads of people should have spare heads to suit your car. Any G60 or late mk2 golf GTI 8v head will work. Would be a good opportunity to get a ported and polished head if you wanted to.   9. The 288 disc off a Mk4 golf won't work. You'll need to get the Mk3/Corrado items as they have a different offset. The Mk4 ones have the same offset as the 312s you have on your car (hence the need for the spacers) but the 288s won't work with the spacer like the 312s do as the disc is smaller and the inner friction surface will foul on the hub where the bolts holding the caliper pass through. Because the 312 is bigger the pad area is further out from the centre and clears the hub ok. Hope you can understand what I am on about, it's harder to describe than it is to see for yourself.
  10. You mean to change back? You will just need the original (shorter) carrier bolts to bolt back on the 288 carrier when you remove the 312 carrier and spacer washers.

    I thought they were too but I took the whole engine/box/subframe out of this one a few weeks back and it definitely looked different to me. If I get a chance I'll take some pictures of it ;)

    Well the subframes and wishbones are different, I think where it attaches to the subframe is different, will take a few pictures tomorrow if I think of it.

    I have one of those passats at home for parts and saw the arb on it and thought exactly the same as you (ie fcuking hell that's massive, I wonder would it fit my golf) but I'm pretty sure it won't work on a corrado/mk2.
  14. Well the new one in GSF only cost me 20 quid or something so it's worth changing anyway. It may or may not help the notchy gear change it could be the selector bushes on the topf of the gearbox that are worn.
  15. The gearbox mount is dead easy to fit. All the corrado engines share the same layout of mounts, but not the same parts. There is one on the front crossmember near the starter motor, one at the rear of the engine under the brake servo area, and one at the back of the gearbox.
  16. I got one for a G60 in GSF a few weeks back Barry, I'd imagine it's the same as for a 16v.

  18. BMW definitely never made factory E30 M3s in rhd. One of the dealers (Byrds I think) did about 50 rhd conversions. Not sure which steering rack they used though.
  19. Mk2 Golf Limited, 1 of only 70ish made. I put a timing belt on it and removed/refitted the charger. I've seen a few GT40s, even sat in one once. Saw a maserati MC12 (the enzo based one - massive car and massively ugly as well) BMW 507 Peugeot 205 T16 Aston Martin Lagonda
  20. I did it with 4 axle stands and one trolley jack as follows: Remove 13mm bolt from universal joint where steering column joins to rack. Loosen Wheels Jack car up on each side and support with 2 axle stands (not under subframe!) Remove wheels Undo track rod end nuts and remove track rod ends from front hubs. Undo bottom balljoints and remove from hubs. Remove 17mm bolt from top of gearbox mount. Remove 2 17mm bolts from underneath rear engine mount (access from under subframe) Jack engine and gearbox slightly off mounts and support with axle stands. Now the only thing holding the subframe in place are the retaining bolts and the pas pipes attached to the rack. Removing the bolts is self explanatory (support subframe with jack, remove bolts and lower) The pas pipes can be done 2 ways. You can either disconnect the pipes from the pump and reservoir and take them down with the rack or you can lower the subframe slightly first to gain access to the 2 pipes where they attach to the rack and remove them from the rack before lowering it fully. If I had access to a lift or pit then I would do it that way but on the ground I think it is easier to do it the first way. Once you have the subframe out then remove the pipes (if you haven't done so already) and then there are 4 13mm bolts holding the rack in place on the subframe.
  21. Apart from disconnecting the UJs, the other problem with removing the rack with the subframe in situ is physically getting it out once it is unbolted. The part where the steering column attaches means it cannot slide out to one side through the gap between the subframe and chassis. As Yanards says, if you take off the tie rods you may be able to take it straight up out of the engine bay but even then the exhaust manifold and other bits and pieces will be in the way, not to mention the fact that removing the tie rods with the rack in situ is an awkward job in itself. Overall dropping the subframe is a much easier option in my opinion.
  22. I think the anniversary model Mk4 Golf GTIs were the only 1.8Ts that came with the 312s.
