No our petrol is cheaper, average about 95 cent a litre here in Dublin. But that's not much consolation to someone who has to pay over a grand to tax a corrado that might only get used the odd weekend....
-
Sorry guys, I have no sympathy for you, I'd love to be able to say that my tax was only £165 (around 250euro) Just to compare prices here in Ireland, for 250 euro you can only tax a car under 1200cc My mk2 golf costs 484 euro for the year, My bmw costs 539 euro A corrado VR6 costs 1071 euro to tax for the year  all rates here

How can I reasonably be expected to do any work......
Geo replied to kvwloon's topic in General Car Chat
It wouldn't be so bad except the two spaces this side of it are empty so you get the full side profile.....too much for any man to bear  -
That wing would repair just fine with filler. You'd never be able to tell the difference, much better to do that than have the wing replaced and possibly have alignment issues with it later on etc.... At the end of the day the garage is doing these kind of repairs all the time they should know what is and isn't possible.

Hi Barry, For the sake of a few quid it is definitely best to get the head skimmed when it's off. Just imagine if you don't get it skimmed and you have to go to all the hassle of taking it off again, buying another gasket etc. When I was working as a mechanic I replaced loads of head gaskets. I always got the head skimmed. The place where I get them done would do them while I waited and I would watch it being done. Out of all the ones I have seen being done I never saw a head that didn't actually need to be skimmed. They were all warped to some extent. You should also replace the timing belt unless it is very recently fitted. New ones aren't expensive and you have to take the old one off to remove the head anyway so you may as well get it done at the same time.

Very very nice. Oak green has always been my favourite vw colour. An oak green mk2 gti is still on my wish list. I often wondered what an oak green corrado would look like. Now I know the answer 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

I'm not sure if that is the case. For example, for the mk2 golf it doesn't matter whether the tyres are 155 R13, 175/70 13, 185/60 14 or 185/55 15 the pressures listed inside the fuel filler cap are the same :?:
-
in fact thats under-inflated according to VW  My apologies   As I said I only know the recommended figures for other vws of the same age, eg mk2 and mk3 golfs. Anyone know why the C needs higher pressures?
-
Tyre pressure should be the same as standard even with 16s fitted afaik. I think the correct pressures are 29 in the fronts and 26 in the rears. I know that's what it is for most other vws of the same age as the corrado. IMO 33 in the fronts and 30 in the rears is over inflated

 I might be intersted in a set of nice splits, if you were selling.....
-
If you haven't done so already change the oil temp sensor. If it's been in there since 92 you can be sure the reading won't be too accurate. I changed mine a few weeks ago and it totally changed the readings I was getting.
-
What kind of splits have you bought Mark?
-
Looking nice Richard, speedlines suit it nicely 8) Would they be the same ones that were to be seen on a certain green supercharged vw a few months back?
-
My golf is a daily driver during the so called 'summer' months, but come the winter it goes into hibernation, this year some pretty extensive surgery is planned to take place also.

[off topic]@ Phat, I just noticed you are based in York, I am there at the moment. Have been since Monday and am heading home tomorrow[/off topic]

I saw a nice metallic grey pearl effect colour on a 2003 mk4 golf the other day. It had really nice depth to it but wasn't too dark either.
-
Richard, did you try beating the shit out of it with a hammer? Works for me most of the time (and makes you feel a lot better too)

The way I see it you've got 3 options within your budget 1. Just fit standard 280mm g60 brakes to your car. This won't improve one off stopping power that much as the pad area is the same as the 256mm setup on your valver. However, because the disc has a larger diameter it shouldn't heat up as quickly so repeated braking during 'spirited driving' should be better. 2. Audi S2 twin piston setup. These calipers and carriers bolt onto your exising hubs and can be used with g60 280mm discs. I am in the process of fitting them to my golf at the moment. The advantage over the g60 setup is the much larger pad area, which should give much better stopping power. 3. Ibiza cupra r brembo 305mm. These are the ones kevhaywire was talking about. You should be able to get the kit within your budget and they would give the best stopping power (and they look good too) Your master cylinder should be a 22mm one which should be well up to the job as well. The only possible problem for most people would be the need for a big wheel but your 17s should clear them ok. EDIT: And there shouldn't be any need to touch the rears, they don't do that much anyway. Althought the brake bias valve will need adjusting if you put bigger brakes on the front. Just go for good pads at the rear and change the brake fluid.

Saw a black M reg c over here in Ireland yesterday. Only got a quick look as I drove past. Looked like a valver though....
-
Call the dealer and ask them. If it's running ok and not losing any oil I would stick with the mobil tbh....
-
Guilty as charged  Cheers Yalan! :)

I always do them up with the airgun then check them with the brace. Sometimes the air gun can actually leave them too loose, especially with alloys. As for the locking wheel bolts question. As long as you make sure that the attachment is on the right way then it should be ok. If it isn't and you use the air gun then you could be fcuked though

Yeah I was thinking of pagid or ferodo fast road pads. Anyone got a part number?
-
I have a set of Audi S2 twin pot calipers to put on my golf. Does anyone who has done this have a part number to hand for the brake pads I need? Any make of pad should do as I should be able to cross reference. Also any suggestions on make of pad?
