im not 100% sure on this m8. i think if your mk1 was a gti then the early mk2 clocks would work. i think your car has the wiring already there for a rev counter,it may be a case of getting hold of the loom for the clocks you want to use and splicing it into the mk1 wiring. sorry, cant be sure though... neil.

off topic here but... a vid of the mk1 on the road, while im remmenissin about it. 16v on 45's so turn the volume up! 8) this was while it ran a caddy diesel box,so the gearing was crap :x can hear me having to dip the clutch to make it go! its only 1 min long but seems quite a big file :? neil.

I am, and have had no problems yet. ah,cool. was just wondering about emmisions etc,i know its ok if you dont run the cat, wasnt sure on running it. ive never understood this? the 16v kr 1800 in the mk2's is quoted at 139bhp,and its the exact same setup in the rado aint it? am i missing something? i thought the 2.0 16v 9a gave less bhp because of the inlet cam,and cat. but like you say, gives more torque. neil.

i hope so mr b. thanks.
-
in fact wtf? :x wont i need a vernier cam pully now? :? and i just know someones gonna tell me it shouldnt be skimmed anyway??? feckin cars!
-
cool  pretty confident nothing dropped in m8,visual checks dont show anything either... must admit,it crossed my mind though. just found out the guy has skimmed the head,i hope he knows what he's doing  and he vac tested it and the inlet valves were nowhere near seating correctly. he's pretty certain this is my problem. what ya think guys? neil.
-
same. could get more with a bit of fuel and timing tweaking, then theres the kr 1800 inlet cam,not 100% sure you can use it if running a cat though? neil.
-
interesting stuff 8) gonna go find out if the heads ready and wotnot. neil.
-
cheers, sodium filled eh... any ideas on the above post guys? neil.

a broken g60,again  and my mk1,now a bare shell, why did i ever take it off the road and buy the corrado? edit:btw, this aint my garage, its my dads unit. the sportline is in my garage, and thats all, although it should be the other way round,sportline/rado  i miss the mk1 so much

if you have any jubilee clips/hose clamps knocking about, you can break the original clip off and replace with either of these. once the pipe from isv is disconected from the inlet manifold and from the boost pipe, you need to disconect the leccy connector. the isv will then slide off the inlet (towards front of car) ,and you need to then slide it to the left to release the rubber clip. you should be able to see how it comes off, pretty straight forward. get stuck? give us a shout. neil.

great, this is all i need  i feel ill.

thanks to bix for sending me the torque settings. what do i need to tighten the new dx crank bolt upto though? sure i read 80nm? somewhere, the list i have off bix says 200nm  for a mk2 8v? and any thoughts on the exhaust manifold, cant see it being a problem? neil.
-
cheers m8.
-
guys, ive just thought... my exhaust manifold was starting to blow, possibly the problem? im guessing not :?: one of the nuts had to be rounded off when removing it too didnt it  big chisel sorted it,also are the nuts copper? :? gsf list 8mm copper nuts for the zaust mani? neil.
-
ahh  ill check out vw price on the gasket alone. please, please god let the head/valves be the problem  i dunno myself...
-
ahh ok m8. well its ready to pick up at 3pm 8) i might just dive in and buy all the bits i need, gsf do the head set at £65+vat,and its a metal head gasket, would the gsf stuff be ok? or should i get everything from vw? cambelt kit etc? neil. i hope to god its gonna work!
-
aye, thanks m8. he says lookin at it,its been burning very evenly across all 4 cylinders, and he's seen worse as far as the side to side play. do you think this could be my problem then? for some reason im not 100% confident it is... he mentioned re grinding them in,he's just trying to do it as cheaply as possible for me being a m8 of my dads and all. neil.
-
just bringing this onto next page...
-
thanks m8,noted! 8)
-
the guy with head says the inlet valves arent seating properly?
-
thats the way my life is at the mo m8.
-
cheers. 8)

guys, what about the play in the inter/aux shaft? its in/out play and side to side,no oil leak though.... also where will i find all the torque settings for what i need? cheers, neil.
-
cheers guys, about the intermediate shaft: i cant just get my head round it,i stuck the crank pully back on and lined it up with the arrow.ahhhh hold on if the arrow lines up with the crank pully, the aux pully dot will be further anti clockwise than left? if you know what i mean? is that right? as for the reason the head came off,i dunno i just seem to deal with cowboy mechanics all the feckin time,no one seems to know what theyre on about  they were thinking that a valve was sticking or burnt or something, and wanted me to leave the car with them which i couldnt afford to do so i went and did it myself. i realise that we should have done compression/leak tests first but im not really plugged in at the minute. what do you guys really think the problem is? i know its hard to pin point it without seeing it like... the popping back in inlet, then it clears up but wont drive properly, just big flat spots. when the lambda was unplugged it made no difference at tickover, lambda was tested not long ago and was fine. unplugging the knock sensor made no difference either. the plugs do look a little black, but it honestly dosnt use a drop of oil :? thanks, neil. ill be ringing the guy with the head soon to see what the crack is.
