Finished off and fitted my high level brake light today. Used an Ebay light (about 10 quid I think) and grafted it onto the trim using filler and glue after cutting it down a bit. Then a few coats of primer, plenty of sanding and a few coat of satin black paint and it's finished. Quite chuffed with it really...

Spent a fun morning, taking the old air con system out from under the dash and refitting standard equipment. The air con air box was sooo heavy as it had a heat exchanger in it, and I couldn't believe much room was taken up under the dash by it all. I think thats the last fwe bits of the air con gone now - yay. Took the time to re-grommet a few holes and add a bit of dynamat as well while everything was out.

Removed the final remnants of the air con system from my G60 and fitted standard stuff back in. Spent a fun morning grovelling around under the dash. Working on a high level brake light (filler, sand, filler, sand etc). Resprayed a pair of Lupo wipers ready to go on. Productive day...

Good to see this one's coming along Darren - look forward to seeing the finished article...

Even better if you can get a Butyl IIR stopper do so - they have much higher resistance to gas permeability. It would be a right pain to lose what you have before seeing what it is... -

Bit of advice then, if (and I stress the 'if') you are making hydrogen, make sure you use something pretty impermeable to transport it in, as it will leak out of most containers give half a chance (especially plastics). Also test it as soon as possible after making it to reduce the chances of this escape further. That should give you the best shot at finding out what it is. Suppose you can check to see if you have any of the gas left in the container just before analysing it trying to light it and seeing if it goes 'pop'. -

Do you have any friendly chemists at your college who would be willing to run a mass spec for you potatonet? Once you've got your cell bubbling away it would be a simple task to siphon off a bit of the gas produced in to a tube and get a mass spec run on it which would tell you just what it is. -

I mentioned this to potatonet about 5 pages back mrbeige but apparently standard science isn't worth refering too in these situations.... -

The link refered back to is on the bottom of page 8 potatonet - if you could be bothered to read back through some of your own threads, you might have found it. I know its difficult to wade through all the bull on here as there is so much of it. Oh and by the way "disappearing magically" would be more in line with your research. As I've mentioned before if you don't actually want anyone to question your 'theories' then by all means let me know, and I'll stop digging and trying to actually understand it. As a scientist it is my job to question why things work, rather than just accepting intersting phenomena. At some point though somebody will question the science and ask for proof, and this being your area of research you'll have to get used to that, and deal with it like an adult rather than resorting to the "I don't care about ideas based upon established principles they must be wrong". It a shame you're not open to people questionning the work..... But never mind. -
Here, you need one of them Joe cell batteries. I've heard that'll never go dead bcstudent I know them well; they arrive on a golden Parcel Force carriage drawn by two white unicorns. Those are the ones. They arrive mysteriously, just before you actually knew you needed one, to a fanfare of trumpets, and come with a little leaflet telling you to forget what you've been told about conventional electricity, because this is Joes electricity.... Oh and make sure you never have any negative thoughts, otherwise the warranty becomes void.

We've been seeing what you're getting at since the start, but we're still gonna need to see some evidence real soon :) Ideally a little more than a video of a few bubbles of hydrogen going pop. -

Never mind, given the way the morons around here drive (too many Chelsea tractors) I thought my car already had an invisible coating, Jstar.  -

Cool, magnetron sputter coating. Any chance of some out of hours sputter coating jstar - I'm sure a few people on here would like a gold coated engine block 8) -

It's more the electricity from the battery cracking the water to make the hydrogen and oxygen, rather than running on water. Quote from the above link "...in truth more energy is consumed in the electrolysis, than can be stored in the released gases, so even though they will burn in the engine, overall in you cannot make enough fuel from the electricity from the motor's generator output to fuel the engine alone - that would be perpetual motion, energy for free, and that really doesn't happen in this universe. Honestly." Anyway lad, good luck with it.... -

I know not everyone will want to read this but there is a 'traditional' explanation fo the production of mysterious gasses in these cells when you pass an electric current through them (just in case any one else fancies making their own mind up about it). Physicists letter regarding the cell Basically electrolysis. As mentioned in this link, producing a 2:1 hydrogen/oxygen is making rocket fuel. If you are going to go ahead and play with this, good luck, and for Gods sake make sure you're damn careful.... -

Don't get the hump again and think that everyone is out to get you (that is getting a bit tired now), but when you burn hydrogen you get an implosion not an explosion. This was a quote from somewhere.... "One technical point about Hydrogen. It doesn't explode. It burns, certainly. Very hot, and with a dangerous, invisible flame. However, when hydrogen burns, it combines with oxygen to form water. You would combine 2 moles of H2 and 1 mole of O2 (6 moles of individual atoms) to get 2 moles of H2O - water vapor. Going from 3 moles to 2 mole of volume means that burning hydrogen Implodes, not explodes." This could explain why you get compression rather than the expected explosion... -

Steady there, usually when someone takes the pi$$, I get it in the neck on this one.... -

Sounds like a reasonable explanation, would explain why it can penetrate through apparently solid objects (a lot of plastics are permeable to hydrogen, so leave them in close enough proximity for long enough in an engine bay, then you might get a hydrogen build up). IS the battery always connected to the cell even when it's in the car potatonet? -

Yeah there's something funny going on here Coxy. Even though I'm the only one not relentlessly taking the pi$$ - I'm the one getting the grief :? -

No bodies telling you, you've lost you marbles. My training is as a scientist, as such when I see something I don't understand I try to get to the bottom of why it works. Given my chemistry and physics background I am struggling with some of the concepts and terminology used on the websites (especially when I come across references the the Illuminati, the four elements and other interesting things in the same documents). Short of having one of these to play with it's then by asking questions. If you don't want me to ask questions then by all means tell me, and I'll leave this well alone. -

Not really wanting to get into a pi$$ing competition, it's because of my background that I find this difficult to believe. And by the way, your first sentence is down right insulting ("if he has a degree") - there is no need for that. Oh and I lost you in your second bit... -
