  1. Does sound like a good project! The inlet valves on the head will be standard size. They only increase the exhaust valve. Exactly the same done on mine!
  2. Come on - enlighten us!!! A few of us have 8v projects on the go that are something special. There is a bit of a race on to try and achieve (or get closest to the "Holy Grail" that is 300bhp out an 8v G60 while still retaining the G-Lader charger!

    G60 Rebuild

Currently I think mine might look like that ALL year!!!!
  4. They haven't collected the car yet. Paul is coming up next Sat morning to collect the car and start to strip the engine out of it! Jim is away in Kenya until the following week so I imagine it's going to be a long time before its back again as now need custom designed JE pistons which isn;t going to be a quick solution!
  5. The G-Lader needs a constant supply of oil otherwise it can cause severe damage to the internals leading to detonation. At the end of the day, doing without the car for a few days and making sure nothing was damaged is better than hoping for the best and ending up with needing a new charger setting you back £800 or more after buying a 2nd hand one and having it serviced first or buying a new one for upwards of a grand. Getting the oil off the engine is easy. A liberal coating of GUNK and a steam clean will work wonders
  6. I would get the charger off straight away and get it down to Darren at G-werks straight away for a check up. The G-Lader is such a delicate item it's not worth risking! cpntact g-man on here or go to his website http://www.gwerks.co.uk
  7. Depends on if you can do it yourself. Depending on which ones you need they are between £4.50 and £6.50 + VAT each from GSF
  8. I don't know - I've never bought noisy tappets before!!! Are they more expensive than quiet ones?????

    face lift

You'll have a late Corrado or post face lift car. Cahngeover was during '91 and included Bulge in center of bonnet and rounded leading edge Bluge: ___-------___ as opposed to -----_____----- Wider wings (both Bonnet and wings to give it a 'more aggressive stance' apparently inline with VR (I prefer older look!) Fogs and Indicator sit flush with bumper as opposed to indented. These are the main cosmetic differences although there are plenty of mechanical etc
  10. I'd sell my mum to have a go in that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I have one - And also have a spare one for sale!!!!! They are much better than standard as increase the exhaust flow out of the engine! I can't say what increases were gained out of mine as it was a combination of modifications, but they are good for increasing torque levels and releasing additional bhp from other inlet side modifications such as your charger upgrade and smaller pulley as it will get all of the gases out faster than standard. Hope this helps and let me know if your interested in my 4 branch SS manifold as only 6 months old.
  12. I really hope not. But don't think so. What would have caused the pre ignition, do you mean was the timing out at all or are you thinking more of running lean??? I'm not really sure how I could cure it if it was running lean. We had set the CO Pot to run slightly richer than standard, but bear in mind it's now a 2Ltr as opposed to a 1.8 that would only be a good thing! The car was kept below 3000 RPM and that is run purely on the sensors in the car so I can't alter the way they fuel the car.
  13. I do, it's the one attached to the front of my car. No I'm not selling one.
  14. Personally I would say early bonnets are MORE valuble than lates as they are no longer available new!!!!
  15. Don't know - depends on how long it will take to get new pistons from JE!!!
  16. Well - Once again I can't fault Racepower. They can't do anything until a few weeks as he's off on holiday. But he will take in the whole car, strip out the engine and start from scratch rebuilding it! As he put it, there has been too many faults so a fresh view and build is in order. So he is going to start again and completely rebuild it. Put it back together and give me back a running car! Fair play I say!!! Just means I have to wait a while. But I'd rather that and get a car that is spot on!!!!!
  17. Speak to Audioscape - They do them for £150ish
  18. They are *edit - were* Karl Schmidt Custom Pistons from Germany. Not something I want remaining in my engine. Racepower recommended them when they couldn't get the JE ones in a reasonable timescale. They weren't damaged when the cam siezed. I don't want these back in the car when it goes back together. I'll be requesting they get the JE ones I originally asked for!
  19. My friend, a mechanic said to me yesterday - "you can't beat a standard engine" - I wish he told me that before I started!!!! Then again, at that point I'd have known better and not believed him
  20. Well - Finally found out the problem with it running on 3 cylinders. A proper investigation yesterday eliminated the Injector Wiring Loom or anything similar! We didn't think it was mechanical as no bad noises etc, but the closer inspection revealed no compression in Cylinder No. 4 and a spark plug electrode taht had taken a whack from something! So today I took the Head off YET AGAIN!!!! BAD NEWS - A big chunk of the piston on cylinder number 4 has come away and disappeared presumably down the exhaust. Its not damaged the bore so that seems fine. It has bent the exhaust valve on the head but no damage that I can see to the valve seat! On closer inspection of the other cylinders it seems all but one are starting to show some major signs of imperfections in the pistons. I don't know if this is manufacturing or from (and most likely we think) to be from where tey were machined to fit! Pics to follow! I must say I'm getting to the absolute end of my tether with this engine! I've never had sooooo much bad luck in my life with this car and am almost ready to throw in the towel!!! I'll contact Racepower tomorrow and see what their reaction is, but there is no way that I am removing and refitting the engine or anything else now as I've had enough. I will be expecting them to collect the entire car to put it right!
  21. Normally they will prep it! They did for mine all in the cost
  22. Get yours powder coated. Painting just flakes off. Cost me £30 to get mine done and only takes a day normally
  23. It was the CCGB Parts Club - however not all dealers subscribe to it! Is it actually still going???
  24. The ones from the dealer ARE steel braided!
  25. Actually Steve I bouht one last week from VAG - They use powergrip ones and are apparently about the best. They work out about £12 from VAG!
