  1. Think you answered your own question. Its most likely worn guides, piston rings or worse case cylinder bore wear. Either way wouldn't worry about if your going to be rebuilding the head and sticking it on a new block. Cool, just needed someone to confirm whether it's likely to be worn guides or not. Probably should get them replaced anyway :?
  2. Cheers guys! 8) Anyone offer any reasons for my oily cylinders? (that sounds a bit odgy doesn't it  )
  3. Ok, so which carriers would be needed?
  4. Can the ibiza 4-stud discs be used with the 288 calipers then?? And I suppose the real question is would they fit under my schmorbets??
  5. Hmmm might be little steap for me, but I'll check it out... Are the early Leon cupra's not 4-stud then? If so can the calipers be used with those discs?
  6. I will be requiring more stopping power, when I finally get the turbo done and I was wondering if it is possible to fit 312 discs with 288 calipers onto 4 stud hubs? I've seen it possible to use Seat Leon brembo calipers and 312s on a G60, and also 312's with 288 calipers onto a VR, but was wondering what other calipers I could use on 4 stud hubs??
  7. Right, here are the photos.....bit boring I know.... Just had my cylinder head upside down and notice a lot of very black oily residue on 3 out of four of the compression chambers. What could have caused this? Knackered rings? Or worn valve guides?
  8. A friend of mine is running twin 40's on his 16v MkI Golf. He is running MegaJolt, which is a mappable ignition system, and if I remember rightly it was about £70 from the states. It uses a throttle position sensor, a hall sensor running from a trigger wheel welded to the alternator pulley and Ford EDIS ignition module and coil. It works really well, so that might be a cheaper option. Another mate saw the MegaJolt on the Golf and bought one to run on his 1970's landrover! Worked a treat on that too!!
  9. That is the plan, although they can seem a bit boring really. Hopefully the pics for putting the block together may be a bit more interesting :?
  10. Pics? Yeah I know, I haven't taken any boring pics yet...
  11. Got the paint on the block on Sunday eventually. Just need some cash to buy some bearings and gaskets now! :(
  12. It would have to be an S4 for me. Not the new one, something like an 98/99. Drove one a while ago, and just thought it was lovely to drive.
  13. Looks pretty good dude! What are you using for the ignition advance?
  14. Heh quality. No wonder the poles all drive like lunatics then, they are never going to get caught by a camera. So that's why! Going on the number of Polish/lithuanian vehicle down i nthe fens, I'd imagine the speed camera revenue has dropped over the last two years  To be honest I can't see why the number plate recognition can't be recalibrated to work on all European plates. Its still an offence to speed, so why should none UK vehicles get away scott free??
  15. I watched it yesterday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. That golf was a bit mental really, and as a few have said, not bad for 8 weeks! Is it me or was that Lambo fookin lovely? Maybe I'm becoming a middle-aged to$$pot??
  16. Good job, Dave. Glad you're not selling now?
  17. £100....holy schitt dude, that's sooooooooo cheap! My mum had a pretty much identical one to that, the only differeence is the reg plate! She PX'd that in for a TT two years ago and she even got 2500 for it! (a few less miles though - 36k) How lucky is that!

    Worst Corrado

Please tell me that all of you find that absolutely minging?? I know we all have differing opinions on how we like the Rado to look, but I really hope we all agree that is the single biggest abomination that used to be a Corrado??
  19. Badge removal and smoothed rear? Removal of bump strips? Smoothed mirrors? Colour coded rear numberplate recess? There isn't much else you can do really apart from smoothed front bumper a la US stylee or maybe removing side repeaters?
  20. That last pic, just looks like an EOS with a roof :(
  21. I'm pretty sure its in the region of 9-10psi, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :?
  22. Today I've mostly been applying etch primer to the block. Unfortunately I had to sort out some left over dirt/grease in some of the nooks and crannies of the block. I also had to re-mask some of the block, as the masking tap did get pretty wet :( Hopefully I should get the paint on it tomorrow. :)
  23. Bloody missed it :( Have to wait til Wednesday for the repeat... :)
  24. Check for air leaks between the metering head and the throttle body. Mine had similar symptoms and it was a split in the concertina rubbery bit that goes on top of the metering head.
  25. I'm not mormally into 'lairy' colours, but I like that, a lot! 8) It looks a bit like a mk4 Golf colour?
