There was a G60 Passat as well I think! Was a Synchro too :)

Paul Pau1?? Aberdeen?? There should be an Aberdeen Corrado Forum - although the potential hostility could be difficult

kevhaywire - I know where you are coming from and from my point of view it was kind of a big deal going from VW to 'rice/jap' Hence me still posting here! Even though the new car has a definite soul - imho it does not have a SOUL that the corrado had no matter how good a car I think it is, I'm sure you will all understand :) Not really much point to this post other than trying to get across the fact that going to another marque has still left me with a huge respect for VDubs :) Sounds kinda sad but I am sure it will be/is something that a lot of ex or potential ex corrado drivers will witness! :) There should be a support group  The funniest thing is driving past a corrado and appreciating it whilst at the same time expecting a wave or acknowledgement and not getting it

Which one did you join? There are a heap: http://www.mr2oc.com/ Big US forum but very international and there is much good advice and knowledge to be had there (like here :) http://www.mr2oc.co.uk/ Probably your best bet - a few people who race and sell parts there too kinda like having Darren etc :) Every good forum needs them 8) http://toyotaownersclub.com/ See the MR2 section - not very much goes on and seems to be younger users but its all good

Well keep your head screwed on and make sure the turbo boost gauge goes right up to the very top off the scale. Should have a smooth idle and start to pull from around the high 2k rpm and very suddenly fly off at a rate of knots all the way to 6k+ The usual car checks apply - such as listen for knockin, check it doesnt pull to one side hugely, check oil /fluids levels. Oil changes are very important on them and make sure the guy has been careful of this as its one of the best indicators of how he has looked after it. See if he lets it idle after going for a good burn - if if he turns it right off be wary. Have a good read of this tonight: http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/buyMR2T.html :) Also check the tyres that ae fitted - these are very important to the cars handling and grip - you realyl want to see a good make on the rear and preferably 225 wide. I imagine as it is a TBar it will have either leather, recaros or half suede/leather like mine. Also check for an LSD and traction control - the button for it is on the right just below the steering wheel.

Is it a Rev 3 or Rev 2? If its a Rev3 then its about right. Rev 3 have the updated rear lights - I actualyl prefer the sqaurer Rev 2 ones - but if the car is stock then it will have more bhp/torque being rev 3. Make sure you check whihc rev it is first as if it is a rev 2 I would be looking to pay around 4k with that sort of mileage. What mods does it have done if any? It's nice to buy one with an exhaust and induction as they are quite expensive - but each to their on. Also is it a GT or GTs? T-Bar? etc...

Sorry if I turned this into a bit of an mr2 thread  Was just giving an opinion as it seemed appropriate. So back to the mr2 lol  I forgot to mention single best thing about it - the noises they make. From the burble at idle to the induction noise and the turbo spooling up inches away from behind your head :D Then the pops, flames and boost vent on gear changes - scares old women :) And if you don't like the noise they come stock with 2 amps a sub and 8 speaker setup  IMO you get a lot of car for the money :)

You don't get a twin turbo MR2. You only get a twin entry turbo, gets confused a lot. M\rk 2 MR2: (90-93)Rev 1/Rev2 MR2 Turbo - 225bhp (93-98)Rev 3/4/5 MR2 Turbo - 245Bhp The majority of the changes were cosmetic but major suspension changes were made from the Rev 1 to the Rev 2 and then again to the Rev 3 to make it less tail happy. Purists say the Rev2 is the best drive and setup but everyone argues this :) (I have a Rev2) :D Both however are conservative estimates and they respond really well to a free flow exhuast and incduction. It is also serisously cheap to mod to 270-280bhp with near 300lb.ft torque via a fuel cut defender/manual boost controller. I run mine at 15psi/1Bar boost which is well documented and tested to be safe and non strenous on the engine with stock cooling. The 0-60 on a Rev 3 (245bhp) is 5.2 secs and they do a 13/14 sec 1/4 mile. Running 270 is usually estimated around max 5secs dead no more. They are alos good for 160mph+ and have a * lot* of power from 100+ Thankfully brakes are also seriously good - the stopping time from 100-0 is better than the vast majority of cars - which is nice. Mine is still limited to 120mph which I will keep on for the mean time as its scary how quick it is to get there :/ They are potentially hazardous I guess, especiallly if you haven't driven a rwd before let alone Mid engine rwd. I have a LSD and traction on mine and felt the tail drift a bit today in the wet on a roundabout. It gains traction quickly though thankfully but having traction is a pretty rare option. I think the best thing about them is the ability to put power down so its all very usable. You can fly off the mark and in he dry the level of grip is much much more than you would think with the weight at the back. Just need to be constantly aware of where the weight is when driving fast - its a great laugh though - especially with the roof off in the sun  One surprising fact is that they weigh aroud 1200kgs which is probably a lot heavier than you would think. It was the first thing I became aware of when driving one - its reassuring though and makes them very smooth. I do find I get a lot more people wanting to race though  and have had young kids giving me the thumbs up as they will think it is something way more special than it is   If you are looking for a car around £5k then def go for a drive in one. They can be quite hard to find but be patient and get a GT model to get a really high spec -leather/aircon - everything basically. They tend to have pretty low mileage though as they get imported from Japan with 50k usually where if you get one that is not to modded or track'd you can pick up a mint car. If possible make sure the timing belt and clutch has been done to save you later although both of these can be done with engine in and are not as bad as many make out. Very very different from the corrado but still great fun - they are involving and loud though so not great if you don't like being switched on as they can feel a bit light front end and thus prone to wandering on the dual carriage way   You do feel like you are in a proper sports car when driving one tbh, but I guess at the end of the day that is what they are. Not everyones cup of tea but def worth a look.

I replaced my G60 with an MR2 Turbo and although very different fromt he Corrado it's still a really good/exciting car to drive. You could get a nice one of them for 5K and they are very reliable and super quick. 270Bhp with torque+ to match. Only cost me 30 quid more than my G60 to insure too. Just really really wish I could have kept the Corrado as well - in time though - that 1.8T Corrado for sale at the moment looks like a good choice too :)

Oak Green is probably the only green I have seen that I like on a car come to think of it and that includes BGR. Hard to explain, but Oak Green kinda looks like there is a really thick lair of transparent polish/wax then the deep colour underneath it. 8) My 8v GTi was Royal Blue Metallic which along with Oak Green are my favourite VW colours too.

I agree with G-man, I've never been a big fan of green corrados but the oak green has loads more depth to it and looks great :) Looks subtely different from other corrados but still maintains a standard and definite VW/German feel to it - if you get me :) I think that picture here http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/download.php?id=10037 is easily the best for showing the new colour. Well done Paul - I'll keep my eyes out for it now, maybe even take a spin past for a gander

I think the 350z's look great - really like them :) In my opinion the 3000GT handles better than the 300zx and feels lighter and not so remote. If you go for the 300zx then consider trying to get one from an older owner as the ownership seems to be split between 40+ year olds who have owned them for years and looked after them and then ones that have been owned by several young owners as a cheap fast car and more than likely not serviced as it should be.

I would be very sceptical of a Jap import H reg with 42K. The one I looked at was a UK K reg with FNMDSH and 2 owners with about 80k on the clock. If you do go for one then definitely see a few examples first and if possible a UK one as the Twin Turbo was released over here too. For what it's worth, the insurance on it was only going to be around 600 quid, about 40 quid more than I was paying on the G60. I see no one has mentioned the main cost/annoyance of these yet- the MPG. You will be getting around 15-19mpg from it. This combined with the size of them was enough to put me off. They are very refined though due to the big engine and turbos, although this does kind of remove the kick in the back feeling under acceleration- the just glide forward albeit very rapidly  I found I kept inadvertantly, and significantly, breaking the speed limit whilst on the motorway whereas on country roads I was well aware of the size of the beast :) Go for a drive in one - see what you think :) I suggest trying a Mitsi 3000GT TT as well as they are kind of similar. I found the GT felt much more sporty and responsive and had a far greater feeling of accelration - making it more fun to drive. The same basically applies to it though re: costs with the added 'bonus' of even more gizmos such as 4WD/S etc.. RadoAds - a 300zx would very easily out pace a 944 s2 (except as you say in 'the twisties' :)

Yeah I went to see and almost bought one when I sold the Corrado. It was a very clean example but they are very very cramped engine bay and seriously complicated - sensors for everything. The potential costs of anything engine or turbo related was a bit scary too. If you do go for one perhaps find some garages that know about them first so you have somewhere to get work done. Parts can be found for cheap on the net as well with suspension etc not being as much as you would think. They are very quick indeed - in a straight line, and they seem to naturally want to sit at 90mph+ on the motorway so probabyl a license loser! :) They are very nice inside although the controls are a bit clunky, but with leather etc they are very high spec'd. I think colour is very important too, as they are quite old some make it look its age where as black or something else decent helps them maintain a more modern feel. They are pretty big though and you are very aware when driving them of a lot in front and behind you - no where near as nimble as the corrado as its a very different type of car. I ended up getting an MR2 Turbo instead which fitted the bill perfectly for what I was looking for - and very easy to mod to high power and maintain reliability to give 300zx power in a smaller - better handling car :D

Come in under the shadow of this red rock, And I will show you something different from either Your shadow at morning striding behind you Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you; I will show you fear in a handful of dust. T.S. Eliot, "The Wasteland" :)

No way jedi :) I prefer the wheels that are in the pics by far

Hey you took those photos in the 'Bird Shit' Car Park! That was remarkably brave of you :) Car is looking good - really like those alloy on it.
-
One thing I have actually noticed about the MR2 is that it grips amazingly well. I fully expected it to be a liability but it puts power down seriously well. The one I got has traction control and an LSD which helps, but you would be surprised at handling. Just very different to the Corrado so kinda hard to compare :) Basically in the corrado you would go off the road nose first - with the mr2 it will be the other way. All good fun tho :)
-
Doesn't load on my xbox :/ Think its cos my chip is ancient Was looking forward to a race between MR2 turbo and corrado vr6 :) The models look quite good in the game - is GT4 not meant to have a C in it as well?
-
I stand corrected :) What is the handling like on the 924 Roddy?
-
I think it was the 944 that they compared the aerodynamics to. Surely the 924 was that much older than the corrado so kind of pointless competing with it?
-
hehe - aye I can imagine it must be very different to drive. I'll need to keep an eye out for you going about the town in it - wouldn't mind a nosey round
-
looks nice and clean :) What is it like to drive?

yeah he will have got 3 points
