Anyone been to see this VR6 on autotrader in Leeds?
TomB replied to was8v's topic in General Car Chat
Good luck with it mate. I gave it a thorough check over but couldn't afford it. I didn't drive it as it was parked at the back, but initial impression seemed to be that it was tatty but solid. Had 12 months (possibly questionable MOT), and he said I couls have it for £2K once I'd pointed out what was wrong with it. See my other thread for details though. Cheers, Tom -
That's cool man, really nice and subtle. Very familiar view that, down to the colour, the wheels and all :-)
-
Nice isn't it? I've emailed the guy for some more details, and apparently it was re-sprayed 2 months ago, and one of the doors replaced. He was planning on keeping it but is moving back to Poland and can't register a RHD car there. Crossing my fingers that I don't get outbid... Mine's still for sale btw :-)
-
Cheers gents, I hadn't considered an Ibiza tbh, as there's something about the shape of the Mk2 that I really like. That one on fleabay looks promising, but I'm keeping an eye of this as well: THIS Any opinions welcome :-) Cheers, Tom Edit: Link Shortened
-
I glued mine on at the front and it's still holding. Loctite is the answer :-)
-
Jay, as I'm selling up I'm not needing any work done, but if you need any info about good/bad bit's of York, drop me a line... If I need anything doing on my Gold (if I ever find one) I'll drop you a line though! Cheers, Tom
-
blackcat, thanks for the link, I'll read up on that later... Not_Aircooled_or_Taxfree, cheers mate, I've done a national search, and the one in Hampshire looks tidy, but over 200 miles away! The waiting game commences :-)
-
Nice one man, glad to hear it. [goes off to find disposable camera etc. to place in glove compartment] :-)

dinkus, Cambridge - Peterborough - York/Leeds - Manchester. Super advance tickets, no travelling through London and GNER and Arriva are pretty good. Anyone thinking of taking the train between Berwick & Edinburgh at weekends though, don't bother for the next month as you'll have to get a bus...
-
Welcome to the forum. A shameless plug but I have a valver for sale :-)
-
I'll let you know when I get one... beeftech cheers for the advice, that'll be dead useful when I go hunting properly. Cheers, Tom

Amen to that. If you knew how many people that work in the industry are crying out for re-nationalisation.... The problem is that the Government haven't got the balls to do anything. Instead you've got a situation where the company that owns the infrastructure doesn't run the trains, and the people that run the trains don't OWN the trains (they're owned by 3 high street banks). I won't even get started on the amount of contracting and sub-contracting that goes on.... Cheers, Tom

Would these things suggest something else then? Well, even though it's a turbo it didn't have much power to begin with but no, no loss of power! Sometimes it doesn't turn over properly And no, no mayo under the oil filler cap (haven't checked recently but did an oil change about a month ago and it was ok) Thanks for your help guys, will check the oil cooler at the weekend. What exactly am I looking for? Will there be obvious leaks? Sorry, I should have been more clear  Those were the symptoms I was told to look for that would indicate head gasket failure rather than oil cooler failure. Cheers, Tom
-
All sorted! It turned out to be an 'egg' on the front passenger tyre (which also had a nail in it). :-)
-
My old diesel passat had the same thing and it turned out to be the oil cooler. Any loss of power/difficultly starting/'mayo' under the oil filler cap? If not, then an oil cooler was about £40 IIRC. Cheers, Tom

beeftech, cheers for posting that up, I know what you mean about finding one. There was one on the trader going for £1900! Just had pics sent to me from someone of clubgti though, so some progress... Yours looks very nice indeed, and I have to confess that lowering will probably be on the agenda if I get one :-) Anything to look out for apart from the usual rust/smoke etc? :) Cheers, Tom
-
ghee60, that's according to what I've been able to find out. None near me on Autotrader, but I'm prepared to wait.... Henny, nice to know they can be tweaked cheers, although I wouldn't go that far...probably. Good luck in the hunt for the one ring :-)

A Mk2 with economy pretty much sums it up :-) It's got to be diesel (preferably turbo) because of the close proximity and low price of bio-fuel, and I'm trying to keep it VW. I'm really not a fan of anything past the Mk2 in Golf terms, so that's ideal. Considering a 205 Diesel as well though... Most important thing is price though. One of the main reasons I'm selling though comes in K.5 size and has a diamond in it, and so I need to free up some cash.... Cheers, Tom

Welcome to the Forum mate, and I'll second what ben16v, said, get an uprated loom from h100vw and that should solve your problems. Cheers, Tom
-
Cheers Gavin, I'll see if I can get it up on axle stands at the weekend to have a look. The MOT's not due until April next year fortunately :) Cheers, Tom
-
Yup, it was Beeftech that had one for sale, so hopefully he'll be able to answer my question. Thanks for your help nonetheless guys, Tom
-
Good question Gavin, but in all honesty I've no idea  How do I check? Madjackal I haven't checked the torque of the wheel nuts, as I don't have a torque wrench. I'll check tonight though and make sure they're all tight though. Cheers, Tom

My car's developed a worrying low-speed vibration through the steering wheel between about 10 and 30mph. It was fine at the weekend, but as soon as I set off last night, I could feel that something was wrong. I thought I heard a slight screech as I turned right out of the parking space, reminiscent of the noise the PAS belt on my Passat made when it started slipping, but I got no vibrations there. The vibrations clear up once I get to about 30, and the car handles almost as well as usual, although the steering feels slightly heavier, and pulls to the right. I haven't hit any kerbs, and no more potholes than usual, so can anyone point me in the right direction (no pun intended)? Cheers, Tom

I'm thinking of getting a Mk2 *edit* GOLF/*edit*, ideally a GTD (80bhp) or possibly a TD (55bhp). Just wondering if anyone's owned/driven one on the route to Corrado ownership. If so, can anyone tell me what it's like to drive and if they can be tweaked upward in terms of hp? Cheers, Tom
