I saw an M-reg Blackberry (well purple anyway) 'rado in York on Wednesday evening about half five going down Holgate Road, and a friend of mine saw a silver one in Edinburgh H187 FCU. Anyone?
-
I'd put down the similar lack of acceleration below 1500rpm on work's Poxhall Astra(1.7TD) to the turbo not being up to speed. The only way to pull out quickly was to let in the clutch at about 2K rpm... Same experience with my Passat TD as well, completely different power delivery to a petrol engine (but I'd still want one in a Corrado). Cheers, Tom

I'm originally from Bedfordshire, but I moved up here in 1996 and I'm not going anywhere :-)

In York, VW charge £70/hr + VAT. My local garage is about £34/hr inclusive, and I know some places that charge £20/hr. It's not as grim oop North as the Ascot reviews would have you believe :-)

I for one would love a Tdi Corrado. Diesel engines aren't what they used to be, last year a Le Mans runner was diesel, and Skoda's rally car is diesel I think. That and the fact that you could run it on chip fat and get 500 miles out of a tank has to count for a lot. What the difference between running a 180bhp turbo charged beast with enough torque to pull down a block of flats than a Bahn Brenner (sp?) instead of a G-Lader, or a 1.8T rather than a VR6? Cheers, Tom

Well, it's got a reprieve for the moment, according to the garage it's the new gasket that's blown on cylinders 1 & 3, so that'll all be under warranty from the work they did a while ago. I'll stick with it for the moment, as if I sell, I'm just p1ssing money away. Thanks for all your input guys. Tom

Car's in the garage (again) with either a blown head gasket (fixable under warranty for nowt) or a knackered head/block. Even if it's going to cost me nothing to put right, I'm beginning to be ticked off beyond imagining with owning a Corrado, as I seem to be cursed at every step. Anyway, it being a valver and all, I'll probably have to pay somone to take it away, however, if people could give me an estimate on what they think it would be worth with/without engine I'd be grateful. 1990 H reg 1.8 16v in Tornado Red (no rust as all 3 small patches professionally re-sprayed 10 days ago). If engine is only the gasket, then the spec will be: full head re-build 3 months ago with new tappets, exhaust cam, cam timing chain, timing belt. Running 2 exhaust cams, K&N panel filter. (approx 131K on block) Full Stainless Powerflow Exhaust Lowered (50mm?) on G-max shocks & Eibach Springs. G60 BBS Alloys New brake pipes all round in November Full CAT1 Cobra Alarm & Immobiliser (Installed in November) Black interior with worn bolster on drivers' side. One of Gavin's fantastic headlight looms. Working sunroof, windows, spoiler, wipers. Broken Odometer. If/When I decide to sell, I'll post up in the appropriate section. Thanks, Tom

They should just pop out with a little persuasion from your fingernails and a little wiggling (unless all of my side repeaters have been loose :-)) Cheers, Tom

Ah yes, the DM, the paper that supported Hitler in the 1930s... How do you confuse a DM reader? Tell them that Asylum Seekers are the natural predators of Paedophiles. :-)

Absolutely gutted for you, that's a terrible thing to see. Is there a reputable bodyshop in your area, as I think you could get the work done for about half of your insurance excess. Good luck, Tom

Spoke to the garage today who think it's the head gasket, but that still doesn't explain why my brake fluid was boiling in the reservoir even though my brake were fine. Anyone?
-
Welcome to my world... Check your hose clips are secure (especially directly under the expansion tank as there can be a slow drip from there). Apart from that I'm afraid I can't offer much advice.
-
No, although I was thinking along those lines. Being an idiot mechanic as I am, how easy is it to do? Cheers, Tom
-
Another vote of thanks to Gavin for the loom and bulbs. Absolutely fantastic quality, and I now has a loom that doesn't eat relays! :-)
-
Nice of them to give you a lift back I have to say, and I'm glad you've got it sorted out. Good use of the word 'flolloping' as well :-)

Somthing else that I remembered is that the radiator fan didn't come on immediately when I stopped, even though the warning lights were screaming blue murder. It took about 5 minutes before it came on (by which time coolant had stopped p!ssing out of the safety valve in the expansion tank). *Edit*Also having checked all of the hoses there's no evidence that any of them are perishing, and I've replaced all of the clips. *Edit 2* My brake fluid was boiling in the reservoir as well, I take it that this isn't normal? Any advice? Cheers, Tom

No, no mixing either way, and there's no 'mayo' under the oil filler cap either. Only the oil/white smoke from the exhaust made me think that. I'm really confused on this one I have to say...
-
Flushed coolant, changed oil, fitted Gavin's fantastic headlight loom and 747 bulbs and then turned the air blue with all manner of inventive swearing as the cooling system went belly up again.
-
Right, to try and solve my problems, I've replaced the header tank, the header tank cap, and today did a full coolant flush, as per idiots guide on the forum, and refilled with G12+. Took it for a run, and all was fine until the temp got a little high (about 95 degrees on the gauge) and then the oil pressure light came one and that familiar beeping started. Got back checked oil level, slightly over maximum, so drained it, new filter filled to about three quarters (a quarter under maximum), double checked coolant and set off again. Got slightly further this time, and it was behaving itself until I got a little more spirited around some back roads. Then it was temp warning light, followed by oil pressure light. A friend who was travelling behind me said that there were spots of oil coming from the exhaust and when I started it again, it was full blown white smoke. It also took 3 litres of water to get to the right level in the header tank. My instinctive reaction is that it's my head gasket, but that was replaced about 3 months ago along with the head etc. and there has been no trouble with it until last week. Any other suggestions before I take on a third job to pay for the next garage bill? Also, if anyone reading this needs a project car and has anything cheap but RELIABLE to offer in p/x keep me in mind for when I finally snap and decide to sell (about 10 minutes from now probably). Cheers all, Tom

There's an awful lot on there already believe me, but the once vast network is either knackered, stretched to capacity, or been torn up. Royal Mail definately didn't help the cause, although that's between them and EWS I guess... I agree with you 100% Jim, but there's not enough money to fix the system let alone stretch it a little more. As to the GPS malarkey, I can't see it happening tbh. This Government reminds me of middle senior managers, they see something shiney and new, or someone comes up with a new phrase ("picking the low hanging fruit" anyone? ) and they immediately want it/start using it without the slightest clue as to what it does/means. I'll stop there at 2p before I empty my account :-)

All around South Yorkshire today with work and saw a Tornado Red G60 on 17" wheels (I think) looking very nice. Reg was G60 A? Anyone?
-
But nothing that you can't get away with, with the aid of a large cloth as I found out last night :-)
-
Absolutely, it's in their interest to sell the newer models, so something that was a CAT1 5 years ago may not be now. It is guarenteed to keep it's CAT1 status for the person who had it installed though. Back OT, a Cobra Cat 1 Alarm and Immob can be fitted for £300, but if your insurance co. is happy with just a leter from VW, then go wih that. Try Lancaster Insurance for a quote as well, as I found them very helpful (and cheap). Cheers, Tom

Swore at it a lot as it broke down (again). Topped up the coolant for the nth time and limped home.
