Also, check the accuator rod is connected to the turbo spindle!! the rod is held on by a circlip - the circlip had fallen (or rusted) off and the rod come off and was loose. lost boost because of that - thought the turbo was knackered until I noticed the disconnected rod!!!!

From what I've read in other posts - buying a new VR6 engine complete from VW costs about £1800 +VAT. So rebuilding one isn't really cost effective. Someone did ask if the new VR6 engine from VW was a 2.8 or 2.9 - not sure on that one!

Jeez, I'm training it at the moment - absolute hell. Then my buddy asked me to drop him off to pick up another car. His car was a Fiesta - gutless bag of bolts, and turning a corner was a nightmare!! I can't believe Ford are still producing the old crossflow engine, that block came out in the early 60's. Can't wait until I get my C back! -
I had the same problem! But it is your brakes and they are ~10 years old. I played safe and replaced the calipers. One of my mates showed me a way to bleed them without using the nipples - it is a bodge and I wouldn't use it! Some garages use the trick when the bleed nipples are broken!

My cable snapped there as well. Get one from a breakers, the dealer was asking for £120 for one!!

Anyone seen the ads for the Sport Ka? They are not being shown in the UK (or banned) for obvious reasons. Saw them yesterday, they are pretty brutal, even though they are computer generated!!

I think the time varies between counties. I've been done twice, and the letters came through within 5 days. It depends on how much resources the police allocate to that particular crime unit! Good Call Will!! I just remembered when I had the instrument panel out, all the relays pushed in a bit further, almost as if they had gradually come out!! -
Emax, All the very best with the new arrival. You should know Star are probably the best in Scotland for VW repairs. You know Jim Curley well enough, he doesn't BS you. Getting a second opinion is pointless. Its like asking the guys down south to get a second opinion after Vince at stealth has diagnosed a problem! Hope its not too painfull on the pocket!! Good luck with the wee one!!

I think the tensioners are a weak point on the Corrado. My 16V would sometimes lose power, and on tick-over drop revs. I did hear a sound like the power steering pump occasionally, but thought nothing of it! Until it done it while waiting in traffic, and I saw some smoke coming out from the bonnet. I pulled over and switched off the engine..carefully opened the bonnet and couldn't see anything?? I started the car up again, and smoke started billowing from the cambelt. The tensioner had locked up, and the belt was being fried as it was forced around the tensioner pulley! I pulled the dipstick out and used the small amount of oil from that to lubricate the bearing! Done that several times, I tried starting it again, and the tensioner freed off! I drove the rest of the way home slowly, but the tensioner never siezed. The next day bought another belt and tensioner!! Guess I was lucky then!! Didn't do the head and pistons in!!!

Mario, If it was me I would renew the filter and oil again. It may be that some of the flush was left in the engine when you drained it. The remnants may cause the oil to appear thin as you reported. OK it may cost another £35 for oil and filter, better that than worn components.

Security!! One cheap option is a webcam with motion detection software, works very well. :) Except at night its no good too dark. :( -
I don't think VW recommend an engine flush. I told the head mechanic at the local dealers, I had used one and he told me its not recommended, and they never use it! Oher garages, I don't know!!!

BHM 1. Looks like fuel starvation -'priming' the pump wouldn't help if it was vacuum related. As advised previously look at your fuel filter chances are it will be old, and renew that first. Quite cheap! If it still does it then look at the lift pump in the tank - check its getting a good electrical connection first (Fuel gauge not working). If its not that then probably the pump itself is shot. The reason its not doing it all the time points to blocked filter/impending pump failure. Filter sometimes fuel gets through sometimes it doesn't. Same with the lift pump it may work then stick - then work again, not lifting enough fuel for the main pump. 2. Vacuum problems - easily checked, I pulled the vacuum pipe off the instrument panel. Its quite obvious its sucking air in on tickover, its loud. When you put your finger over it the suction keeps it there and sticks, hence no leaks elsewhere. (if there was a leak in the system it would not have stuck!) You could test the suction on the pipe in the engine bay. 3. Earths!, check the engine, battery and chassis connections are clean! Hope it helps. I changed my fuel filter a few weeks ago and the engine felt more lively after renewal! -
i wouldnt do that to be honest. you risk damaging the piston and its a bit of a 'jack of all trades' way of doing it to be honest! use a big g clamp and use the old pad in the caliper to distribute the weight, again...to avoid damaging the piston. not sure about the bleed nipple but it sounds like it may work...although if it snaps your stuffed! I just used a big shringe to suck the excess fluid out of the resevoir before pressing the pistons back in...then toped up with what was in the shringe and binned the rest. Risk damaging the caliper..How? If the caliper is back in position the piston is on the inside, and pushing against the old pad and disk! Using a clamp you are forcing the fluid against the brake master cylinder seals, around them and out the reservoir. Totally the wrong way the fluid is meant to run!!!

Instead of g-clamping the calipers back in and overflowing the Brake master cylinder, I always put the caliper back onto the carrier, and then levering the piston back. You must open the bleed nipple, the (piston will slide back easily) at the same time, and as the piston nears full retraction, close the bleed nipple. There are various reasons for this method, the piston slides back really easy, and as the fluid is coming out ot the nipple it won't overflow into the engine bay! More importantly, the fluid behind the piston is usually shot with heat and dust. You are effectively displacing the old fluid with fresher stuff. Don't forget to top up the master cylinder!! The only drawback is that the bleed nipple may snap off - a common fault with corrados. Be aware you may need to buy new calipers.

Cheers Benji, thanks for the feedback on the koni's. I'm not wanting to spend too much on the car as I'll probably be getting another when the finances have improved. I think my original springs were the 50mm drop ones - running over a beer can and it was a case of 'Will it hit'. Then again the front spoiler (the 90mm one I think) used to scrape quite a lot! I may add that the Eibach springs don't suit my car, maybe if I had 50Kg+ in the front it may come good. They just don't feel right on my Valver!

Cheers Guys. cutting the springs is drastic (just really pissed off with them!) I won't go down that road. I spoke to Jim curley, and he told me Eibach only do one spring type across the Corrado range. It will Drop a VR6 40mm as stated, but any 4 pot will only go down about 20mm if your lucky. What I am going to do is inquire about a set of Koni dampers and other springs. But I will have to wait and see if I get paid and by how much this Friday before deciding! The Eibachs were too soft and too high compared to the old units. I know people slag Spax off something rotten. But my existing setup made the car handle like a go-cart! The Eibachs lost that certainty when going into a corner - the Spax you pointed it and it stuck there. I will probably sell the Eibachs on at a later date when I get some new kit!

Hi Folks, Just fitted a pair of lowered 40 mm Eibach spring, but the car is sitting about 45mm higher than my last ones! Do they settle down or stay at the same height?? Thought I'd ask - I think I'll be taking the springs off tomorrow and removing a couple of coils with the grinder!!
