  1. Berie's getting old and dottery, if it had been a few years ago, the team principles would've been threatened with a knee capping and there would be a chicane installed :D
  2. Cheers Guys! I've already advised him to check the oil , it affects the EGR valve, and causes the safety mode to kick in. Thanks for the other comments, I'll pass them on. As far as I know its a 2.0 Turbo diesel ecotek engine. Thanks for the pointers, gives an idea where to look for the fault!
  3. I'm wondering where the conning tower went???
  4. Any kind chappies or chappettes know about Vauxhall Vectra's. My mate just acquired one, Diesel ecotek - but the engine management goes into 'safety mode' he can only get about 10m.p.h. out of it???
  5. He...He.... good call Chris. I've heard that one before a few times....especially when I've photoshopped a pic of my mates
  6. If the pope had a Rado, it'd probably look something like this :D
  7. Banana Man, sorry to hear about your incident. Having said that I've seen some people park outside freight depots before, and its not hte best place to leave your motor. Artics are turning in and out all day, and I've seen similar results to yours, but the guy was parked on the corner of the entrance, you didn't need a crystal ball to predict that one!
  8. I like the idea of a nice drive, maybe in the future, once I get my pile of s**te running and handling better again!
  9. Not a bad looking valver just around the corner from my sisters in Limehouse - nice chrome wheels!
  10. James , the hill trick just puts load onto the clutch - if it didn't slip - then it is good. You are correct - the test mainly applies to your avrage car. Maybe some of the guys on the forum could point you in the direction of a good Corrado mechanic. I would be tempted to try getting the bushes replaced on the gear linkage first. Its probably the cheapest option. If nothing else you'll have a eliminated one problem, or a future one.
  11. Seems so until you take into account how much you spend on a Corrado every year - then it really is peanuts.
  12. Flash - brilliant!! it does what it says on the box. No marks at all. In the summer - I used to get a quarter of the car chamiosed and the rest dries out (black car) - you've got to wet it again. Saves so much time and hassle. The downside is you don't notice the new chips and dents!
  13. Cheers Guys for the info. I've passed it on, I think he has had second thoughts (especially on how much its going to cost) and going to sell it and buy a Golf VR6 or something!
  14. James if you've fitted the circlip and its worse, then I'd say the gearlever adjustment is out! The clutch cylinders - about the only way of testing them is to depress the clutch pedal and have a mate place a screwdriver tip at the end of the clutch arm - keep the pedal pressed fully down and see if the arm moves back (using the screwdriver as position guide). That way you'll know if the cylinder seals are holding the pressure. You should try bleeding the clutch first! Testing a clutch - try park on a hill and try pulling away in 2nd if it slips the clutch is worn - if it stalls its good!
  15. Helio, The 'string' looks like PTFE tape to me. If its wrapped around the bleed nipple - and on the nipple threads then the previous owner has had problems with clutch fluid getting past the treads. PTFE tape is used by plumbers to seal joints on pipe connectors. Your bleed nipple shouldnt leak fluid - but if you have problems engaging gears look at the nipple first - and see if it's leaking - cos that may be your problem!
  16. BlackCat, Try one of the touch up kits from the dealers or Halfords - you'll be surprised how much of the scratch you can lose!
  17. Hey guys One of my mates has a Mk4 Polo and looking for an engine conversion. Anyone know a good forum or info on what engine will fit into it?
  18. People are creatures of habit....he'll be back in the same car park, same spot. Just return there and steal it back... After following Jims sis around for mentioning a Corrado - he's obviously guilty....no doubt about it :hitler:
  19. Yep that's correct. When carrying out major work on the brakes I open up the bleed nipple a full turn and put my finger lightly over the nipple (to let air out and stop dirt getting in) and get my mate to pump the pedal about 10 times - refill the reservoir. I keep doing that until most of the air is out. I'm not sure about easibleed kits for the 1st bleed stage, I think there is too much resistance on the 1 way valve. After the 1st stage use the easibleed. Also check out Phats problem :D :D http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23884
  20. Steve, if you pump the pedal, do you get a 'high' pedal? Its a corrado, 'seeing how the pads would make a low pedal' they are different!!! Honestly, the last time I replaced some rear brake pipe, there was travel (about 3 quarters pedal) on the pedal, but after a couple of days it goes back to being solid. I know it doesn't make sense, but been there before - it is a quirk I gather you have bled the complete system then (you didn't say so)?
  21. Steve - if the brakes are not realy spongey, then the pads have not bedded in properly. My car does the same, even although you've only removed and refitted the same pads, they don't go right back into place. Take it for a drive, and while your driving dab the brakes every 100m or so, they'll soon bed in. Probably better when no-ones behind you though!
  22. G-Dub, You've either still have air in the system, or the slave is knackered! Your mis-firing problem - you may have dislodged a couple of wires when changing the slave- theres usually a few close to the cylinder.
  23. In Edinburgh, when they ticket a car, the warden has a digital camera. They photograph the car, (all around) and then take pics with the ticket attached. They even photograph the 'pay and display' ticket if its out of time. I suppose it helps when there is a dispute - bit it is fair.
  24. Gixxer, I use a ring spanner on mine. The spanner has a shallow neck and fits perfectly. Which leaves the strut shaft- not having the correct tool - I usually hammer on an 11mm (yours may be different) socket. Then you can remove the nut.
  25. Phat.....your not the type of guy to let a car beat you. In an arse kicking contest you'll always win. Leave the car for now, have your holiday when you get back you'll soon have the project kicked into touch.
