Uplug the connector to the Warm up regulator -it'll still run- I've had mine unpluggd for a couple of weeks! reconnect if it makes no difference. Does the car have an immobiliser? - could be faulty. Check the static timing, make sure its OK. Recheck the Distributer - its new but still could be faulty!

Fla, Probably not the best way to do it. The wing is held on very tight with sealant. If its anything like my one...you'll buckle it at the hinge side. I was renewing the wing so it didn't matter. See what the gap is like down each side of the door, it could be its dropped slightly and catching the wing. The hinge pins could be worn - open the door and try and move it vertically, see if there is any play. If there is then a set of hinge pins is in order!

Mnutz, The brake bias valve could just be stuck- with it being stored for a while. Just free it off and get it moving again. My one was like that and its now OK. If it's still stiff after freeing it, then replace it!

If its stiff, the chances are the inner cable has broken a couple of strands which are catching on the sheath. Lubricating it won't help as it'll break anyway. Better to replace it, much cheaper than calling out a breakdown lorry.

Jim, if you've got 4 years NCB, then try esure you can get a quote online, you may be surprised :)

Mike, ther's seems to be a bit of conjecture in your statement. Someone is going to have to vent a bonnet, and see where the airflow goes. Probably using a small smoke pellet just behind the grill - anyone got a disused airfield we can use :( Just a thought, but as we don't have access to a wind tunnel, would the fans used by stealth or Star Performance suffice? Mmmm!

Skimask replied to rado-steve's topic in General Car Chat
Mine went a couple of weeks ago. Bought one of daves16v kit...and it works fine - for £13.50 you can't go wrong!!! -
Nobody's mentioned 'rubber neckers'....accidents, cars broken down..they slow down to have a gawp. The wanton destruction of all traffic cameras :norty:

Max Power figures again....it may reach 1000Bhp - the microsecond after it explodes :cuckoo:

Try removing one of the heater matrix hoses - from the engine end, see if that makes a difference?

Cheers guys, thanks for the info :)

Hi Beavis, You said you took the windows out for the respray. Was that including the windscreen and rear quarters. If so, how did you do it and was it difficult?

Overheating 16v - not head gasket (UPDATE: All fixed!)
Skimask replied to golddust's topic in Engine Bay
Valvers do airlock easily after you've drained the system. Usually, I use the garden hose to fill it up via one of the heater hoses. Do it gently though, don't turn the tap on full blast! I usually wait unitl the water comes out the other end of the pipe you've just removed. Reconnect the pipes and let it tickover - with the expansion tank off, and fill up as necessary. When you fell heat coming from the inside of the car, you're about there. -
You could save yourself some work: TSR on 01278-453036. They'll sell you a recon short engine for £520 complete. Give Star Performance a ring for some advice. They are based in Fife. See http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... c&start=60. Some of the Mk3 Golf were putting out 190BHP - ask them what engines they have in them and cost. Reconditioning your own engine would be costly - you could upgrade your engine by buying 2nd hand (G60) and get StarP to install it.

I think it was Sweden, introduced Gatso cameras, but as a lot of the population have hunting rifles - they used them as target practice. They stopped installing them after that..too expensive.

One of my mates colleagues got away with a fixed camera speeding offence because there wasn't a camera sign within 1Km of the trap. Worth checking if there is a warning sign...Then again, next time you get flashed, go back up the road and remove the sign, then claim there is no sign :)

can't help thinking ....the guy waking up to have a horses head next to him :D :D

Hi goldie, It may not be your head gasket thats away. Another common 16V fault is the oil cooler corroding and allowing the oil/water to mix.
-
Joe, Try this for removing the valve springs without removing the head Its a bit pricy though! http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=18043

Some makes of brake pads have wear indicators on the final few MM of material, it causes a grinding rumbling noise, more noticeable at low speed.

Your all forgetting something - as stated in the post it involves national security, so they will have the most advanced technology available. It wouldn't be a problem scanning barcodes. In the 70's the US had spy satellites that could read resolve number plates from 160 miles in space.
